Pros

  • Extremely huge stock of fabrics
  • Friendly and helpful staff members
  • Reasonable prices

Cons

  • Can be too busy
  • Narrow aisles

Tricia’s Discount Fabrics has one of the largest, if not the largest, stock and variety of fabrics in South Australia.

We were in awe of how much fabric the store had when we came to visit. Anywhere you turn your head, you’re met with a huge pile of fabric.

The fabrics also come in a wide variety of materials and styles. From beautifully printed fabrics to plain ones, they have them all.

It’s almost impossible to not find what you’re looking for with how much stock they have.

However, while we love how huge their stock is, their narrow aisles didn’t really make searching easy for us.

We found it hard to move around the store since too much fabric was lying around. We also weren’t sure where to start because of how big the place is.

Thankfully, though, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They asked what we were looking for and then went through their stock to help us.

They can be very busy, though, since the shop is quite popular. Some customers who were calling the store had to be put on hold just to accommodate the in-store customers.

On the bright side, though, they sell fabric at a very reasonable price, so it’s the best choice for those who want to buy fabric in bulk.

Pros

  • Wide selection of fabric
  • Offers haberdashery and accessories
  • The store has a huge floor area

Cons

  • Customer service can be improved
  • Parking can be tricky

DK Fabrics has been around since 1991 and has dealt with all sorts of fabrics, so you can trust their expertise when it comes to high-quality fabrics.

What stood out to us the most about this shop is its large floor area. The store is 1,800 square metres, so there was so much room for us to move despite it being packed with fabric.

They were also able to display every single product they had in an organised manner, so the store wasn’t as overwhelming as other stores with huge inventory.

Their selection of fabric includes bridal laces, silk chiffon, satin, linen taffeta, Chinese brocade, velvet, PVC, nylon, sequined fabrics, and more. They even have fake furs too.

We also love that they offer haberdashery and accessories, so we were able to get everything we needed for the dress we wanted to make.

The only disappointing parts during our visit were the customer service and parking.

Some of the staff were rude and dismissive, so we decided not to ask for assistance anymore.

As for the parking, there was no free parking near the store, so we had to use the paid parking spot behind it.

Pros

  • Wide range of fabrics and accessories
  • Free shipping for orders over $250
  • Has an online store

Cons

  • Customer service can be improved
  • Cramped store

Ferrier Fashion is the best fabric shop for people looking for fabrics for an evening dress or wedding gown.

Their stock of bridal fabric includes a range of guipure, beaded, and traditional laces that can elevate your gown. They also have a wide variety of fabrics for bridesmaid dresses.

Aside from these premium fabrics, the shop also has day-wear materials that you can use for any occasion. They also have haberdashery.

Among their stock, the printed fabrics were the ones that we really liked. They have a lot of prints that you won’t find anywhere else, perfect for summer dresses and beautiful tops.

However, we had a hard time going through their fabric because of how cramped the store was. The shop is already small, so the huge stock just made it much harder to move around.

The staff also weren’t that helpful. They didn’t provide us with assistance or any advice on which fabric would work for our project, so we were a bit lost.

Fortunately, though, the shop supports online shopping. We suggest new customers just order online to avoid the hassle of going to the store.

If your order exceeds $250, the shipping fee will be free, so it’s a great option for people buying a lot.

Pros

  • Wide range of products
  • Supports online purchase
  • Offers a variety of workshops

Cons

  • Customer service can be improved
  • The website is hard to work with

Established in 1989, Riverlea Cottage Quilts is one of the best shops to get batiks and African and Japanese fabrics. They also offer reproduction prints and black and white prints.

The shop has a wide range of high-quality fabrics, including indigo fabrics and textured Japanese cotton, which are hard to come by in other fabric shops.

What we love most about Riverlea Cottage Quilts is they offer workshops like patchwork and sashiko lessons, which greatly help crafty people.

We also love that they support online purchasing, which allows customers to buy fabrics in the comfort of their homes.

The only drawback about this is how hard it is to work with the website. When you add a fabric to your cart, it redirects you to PayPal, and it sometimes doesn’t work.

It’s also hard to see all the products since the categories are not in the same place. Some are on the right, and some are on top, which is confusing.

Thankfully, though, you can just call the shop and tell them which items you want from them, and they’ll send the items to you.

Our talk with the staff went smoothly, and we were grateful for how polite and professional she was. However, some customers didn’t have an experience as good as ours.

Some noted that some of the staff looked like they weren’t interested in helping them, which made them feel uncomfortable.

Pros

  • Reasonable prices
  • Wide variety of products
  • Great selection of silk fabrics

Cons

  • Customer service can be improved
  • Fabrics don’t have price tags

Eastern Silk has one of the largest ranges of silk, wool, cotton, and cashmere fabric in Australia.

The shop carries plain and embroidered dupion silk, printed lightweight silk, raw silk, crepe satin, georgette, and more, giving us a lot of choices for our projects.

The shop directly imports its fabrics from great craftspeople in India, so you can rest assured that everything they sell is of the highest quality.

Aside from fabrics, they also have homewares like bedding, blankets, throws, curtains, and rugs, so you can buy some while browsing for your fabric.

Our only criticisms of the store are the disappointing customer service and the lack of price tags on the fabrics.

Some staff were rude and appeared uninterested in helping us, leaving a bad taste in our mouths.

This was even more frustrating because it made us uncomfortable to ask for the prices since the fabrics didn’t have tags with them. We just hope they can put tags next time to make it more convenient for customers.

Fortunately, the fabrics weren’t as expensive as we had expected, and we didn’t go past our budget. They were reasonably priced, with some being a lot cheaper than the quality of the fabric.
