Savour the gooey goodness of the best fondues in Adelaide!
If you’ve ever had proper fondue, you know it’s the kind of thing that sticks with you (pun intended). All that gooey cheese, silky chocolate, and the perfect excuse to linger at the table just a little longer.
I first tried it during a trip in Europe, and I’ve been a bit obsessed ever since. When I got back, I set out to see if Adelaide could deliver, and I’m happy to say we can. In fact, we’ve got spots for both cheese and chocolate lovers.
Some I’ve already dipped into, others are still on my “can’t wait” list, and I’m sharing them so you can find your next fondue fix too.

The Smelly Cheese Shop definitely lives up to its name. I still remember walking in for the first time and being hit with the rich scent of cheese in the air. Depending on who you ask, that might be heaven, or it might be a bit much.
But for me, it was pure heaven. They stock a good mix of local favourites and imported cheeses from places like France and Switzerland. Even if you’re not here specifically for fondue, the range alone makes it worth a visit.
For fondue lovers, they offer a ready-to-use kit made with traditional Swiss Alpine cheeses. You just take it home, melt it, and enjoy that smooth, savoury goodness without any fuss. I usually keep one in the fridge just in case my fondue craving hits.
Pro tip: They offer corporate gift boxes that work well whether you’re trying to impress a client or show appreciation to your team. Of course, their fondue box is available, and you can customise it with thoughtful packaging and a personal message to make it feel extra special.

Operating hours:
- 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM (MON-FRI)
- 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM (SAT and SUN)
I first stumbled into C9 Chocolate & Gelato on a warm Friday night after dinner on Rundle Street. I wasn’t even planning on dessert, but the delightful mix of tempting treats they have on display pulled me in like a magnet.
Their handcrafted gelato is definitely worth a try, but my first order was the chocolate fondue. I had heard good things and wanted to see if it was something I would come back for.
It absolutely is. Their classic Belgian chocolate fondue stands out, served with fresh strawberries, banana slices, marshmallows, and brownie cubes. The balance is spot on—rich enough to feel indulgent but not overly sweet.
Pro tip: C9 Chocolate & Gelato offers the Party Fondue that’s perfect for sharing with friends. Priced at $49.50, it comes with a mix of fresh fruit, brownies, and marshmallows. You also get two scoops of gelato, and you can choose your favourite flavours to go with it.
Grünthal Brew

Website: https://grunthal.com.au/
Address: 827 Mount Barker Rd, Verdun
Contact details: +61 8 8388 1588
Operating hours:
- 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (MON-WED)
- 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (THURS and SUN)
- 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM (FRI and SAT)
If you’re up for a proper cheese fondue experience, Grünthal Brew is worth the drive. Tucked away in the Adelaide Hills, it stands on the site of the old Grumpy’s Brewhaus, which was lovingly rebuilt after a fire.
The owners also run Udder Delights, a local cheesemaker. That connection explains why their fondue is so good. It’s made with their own cheeses and served with crusty bread, pickles, and a few other sides that round things out nicely.
Beyond the food, the scenery adds to the charm. Being out in the Hills means you get fresh air and quiet views that feel far removed from the city rush. If you enjoy laid-back dining with a local touch, this place delivers.
Pro tip: If you’re keen to make your own cheese fondue at home, Grünthal Brew runs cheesemaking classes in their greenhouse with Sheree Sullivan from Udder Delights. You’ll learn how to make feta and camembert, enjoy a guided tasting, and take home recipes and equipment to get started in your own kitchen.

- 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM (SUN)
Another chocolate fondue spot I had the pleasure of trying out recently is St. Louis. It has become one of my go-to dessert places thanks to its charming cafe vibe that oddly reminds me of a little spot I visited in Paris.
They really know how to do choco fondue right. You get a pot of rich, melted Belgian chocolate served with strawberries, banana slices, marshmallows, and small pieces of waffle. It’s indulgent without being too heavy, and everything is well-balanced.
Another reason I keep coming back is their seasonal specials. On certain days, you might find extras like churros or caramelised bananas added to the fondue mix, which makes each visit feel a bit different and interesting.
Pro tip: St. Louis has a mobile app on both the App Store and the Play Store that makes it easy to order your favourite desserts ahead of time. The app also comes with a few sweet perks for regulars, including member-only offers and special deals that aren’t always available in-store.

Contact details: +61 8 8367 0443
Operating hours:
- 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM (TUES, WED, THURS, and SUN)
- 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM (FRI and SAT)
Chocolatree is a place I’ve been meaning to check out, especially after a friend couldn’t stop raving about it. Their cosy little spot on O’Connell Street has been around for over a decade, and everything on the menu revolves around chocolate.
What really caught my attention from everything my friend shared was their fondue selection. They offer the classic version, which comes with a rich pot of melted chocolate and a generous spread of fresh fruits and waffle pieces.
They also serve a tropical fondue that skips the usual marshmallows and waffles in favour of extra fruit, which gives it a fresher twist. They even have the Strawberry Fondue, which is a whole lot of strawberries paired with their signature chocolate.
Pro tip: Keep an eye on their Instagram and Facebook pages for updates on dessert deals. They often run promotions, like a 25% discount for students every Wednesday. It’s a simple way to treat yourself without stretching your budget.
San Churro

Address: Shop 5/300 Rundle St
Contact details: +61 8 7079 5300
Operating hours:
- 10:00 AM – 11:30 PM (SUN-THURS)
- 10:00 AM – 1:00 AM (FRI and SAT)
I was a bit sceptical about San Churro at first. I assumed they wouldn’t deliver a proper fondue experience, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. They’re inspired by Spanish chocolaterias and serve up some really fun desserts.
While many of their dishes feature churros topped with chocolate, they also offer fondue-style options that are good for sharing. The setup typically includes melted chocolate, fresh fruit, and churros for dipping.
One of my favourites is the Churros Grazing Box. It comes with lots of dippables and a mix of chocolate dips like Belgian, hazelnut, and white chocolate. It’s the kind of order my friends and I keep coming back to when we want something to snack on.
Pro tip: San Churro has a loyalty program that rewards you with points every time you make a purchase. You can redeem those points for perks like free churros and exclusive discounts. To join, just download their app from the App Store or Play Store and start earning with each visit.
