8 Best Ways to Make Mother’s Day in Adelaide Hills Magical

My mother has always been my rock—there for the highs and standing strong through the lows. That’s why I always try my best to make Mother’s Day special for her.

But lately, I ran out of ideas. Luckily, the Adelaide Hills provide plenty of opportunities for us to do something new together.

If you’re also looking for ideas for this special occasion, I got you!

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a purpose by joining the Mother’s Day Classic, an annual fun run-and-walk to raise funds and awareness for breast and ovarian cancer research. Not only is it a chance to treat your mum, but it’s also a great way to support women affected by these illnesses.

There are two distances: 4 kilometres and 7 kilometres, with the event kicking off from Pinky Flat Park.

Registration gets you a race bib, event shirt, goodie bag, and a finisher medal.

My mum has a personal connection to breast cancer; her best friend went through it. So I got us both tickets for the fun run. She was so happy to know that we were running to support women who have breast or ovarian cancer.

Tip: Get a 10% discount by bringing at least four participants.

Treat your mom to South Australia’s best food and beverage by taking her to the Tasting Australia Festival. It’s one of Australia’s longest-running events, beginning in 1997. It’s a great way to explore the region’s produce.

The festival runs for 10 days, starting May 2nd and ending May 11th. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy wine tastings and food pairings and attend unique events like the Sunday Supper Club and Sunday Sessions.

There are also masterclasses where you can participate together—a perfect way to bond over learning to cook something new.

I took my mom here last year, and we enjoyed delicious food and drank fine wine. The beautiful scenery in the Adelaide Hills added to our bonding. It’s a memory I’ll always cherish, and I’m planning to take her here again.

Tips:

  • While some events require you to purchase tickets, venues like Town Square have free entrance.
  • Some masterclasses have separate costs, so it’s safe to bring some extra cash if you’re planning to bring your mum to various workshops.

My mum couldn’t get enough of their empanadas. They’re flaky, packed with beef, and have the right kick from the smoked paprika and cumin. She loved them so much that we even ordered some for to-go!

My mom went on a shopping spree here last Mother’s Day, purchasing handmade ceramics like vases, bows, and decorative pieces.

I, on the other hand, was busy picking handmade jewellery for her. I picked an earring made from wood, which she now wears often.

Tip: There are plenty of workshops on the market grounds like clay sculpting, painting, and more. It’s a great way to bond and pick up new skills together.

My mum had a great time here, especially after tasting the main course, which was a quail with smoked zucchini, roast fennel, and celery heart. It had a succulent and gamey flavour elevated by the roast fennel’s sweetness.

Tip: There’s a little-known garden hidden in the winery that’s full of flowers, plants, and a massive veggie patch. It’s an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the scenery after your meal.

My mum had a fantastic time in this shop, meticulously browsing through their selection. She picked a Kentia Palm, a few succulents, and accessories like potting mats and a health kit. I’ll never forget the smile on her face as we checked out her items.
