5 Best Schools for Piano Lessons in Adelaide

The 7 Best Schools for Piano Lessons in Adelaide

Qualifications of instructors. Our priority is to look for instructors with many years of experience and training. It’s better if they’re currently active in a musical profession aside from teaching.

Facilities. We looked at their location to see if it is conducive to learning. Specifically, we checked their pianos, the space for learning, and acoustics.

Fees. Piano lessons are done regularly, so we prefer Adelaide music schools with fees that are reasonable and sustainable. It’s better if their rates are arranged according to levels of skill in piano.

Flexibility. We prefer schools for piano lessons in Adelaide that can match different ages, piano skill levels, and style preferences.

Pros

  • Multisensory teaching approach
  • Child-friendly
  • Has a teaching application
  • Well-designed classrooms

Cons

  • Not the best choice for adults
  • Limited slots for new students because of high demand

Forte is a standout choice because of their Forte aural development program, which aims to develop children’s ear for music while teaching the fundamentals of sheet reading.

They don’t believe in being a rigid teacher, so they employ a multisensory approach. Through this, lessons are more encouraging.

This is seen especially in their jungle music lessons, which teach rhythm and tonality in a fun setting. We found this approach highly effective for keeping children entertained yet learning at the same time.

Their kinesthetic approach to learning trains children’s mobility before they start actually learning the piano. It’s why the school has received many compliments for being able to teach students quickly.

Forte’s classrooms are designed with preschool to primary children in mind. They’re colorful, air-conditioned, and comfortable to stay in.

Another highlight is their musical application, which is entertaining and informative at the same time. It can match skill levels from beginner to grade 4.

If there’s a downside to them, it’s that their teaching methods may not be the best for adults because of their more basic approach. This also reflects in their rooms’ design.

Aside from this, there’s a high demand for their services, which makes it hard for new students to enroll here.

Pros

  • Flexible in lessons
  • Great communication
  • Has many opportunities for group learning
  • Professional and sophisticated studio design
  • Instructors have international education

Cons

  • Rates are expensive
  • Cancellation policy and fees are strict

Pathways’ strength lies in the flexibility of its lessons. Upon enrollment, you’ll be asked about the piano style and learning structure you prefer, which we like.

We appreciate the school’s communication with parents too. They make sure to keep parents updated about the progress of their children through emails where they also send comprehensive lesson notes.

The school also ensures that students get many opportunities for performing arts sessions and band practices. This gives them a good idea of their current skill level and an opportunity for more learning.

Their learning space feels professional and sophisticated, making it more comfortable for adults to learn. It’s also a great space for recitals.

We’re happy to find that their instructors have decades of experience in music. Some of them even have an education from Birmingham Conservatoire in London.

However, one downside with them is that their rates are expensive. This is because of the knowledge and experience of their teachers.

Aside from this, some clients found their cancellation policies and fees strict. Be sure to be committed to learning to get the best value for your money.

Pros

  • Has many locations
  • Designed for passing AMEB exams
  • Can teach to children as young as 4 years old
  • Good in conducting online classes

Cons

  • Small studios
  • Some clients weren’t fond of their flexible teaching style

Learning Through Music is one of the most accessible piano schools in Adelaide. They have locations in Maylands, Seaton, Klemzig, Walkerville, and Woodville.

Their program is specially designed for passing the Australian Music Examination Board Exams. The best part is that it is done in a fun and engaging way for children.

One of the highlights of the schools is their early piano lessons that can cater to children as young as 4 years old. These are focused on building their motor, musical, and cognitive skills for easy piano learning.

We honestly think that their instructors’ open-mindedness to students’ preferences is very helpful for building their musical skills. They can adapt their lessons to various music genres.

We also appreciate that they conduct online lessons well, and these are easy to schedule and have note-taking features. These make piano learning convenient for those who prefer to stay at home.

That said, a downside with them is that their studios are smaller compared to others in Adelaide.

Aside from this, some clients found their lessons a bit too fluid and incompatible with those who prefer a more straightforward approach.

Pros

  • Teacher is well-qualified
  • Good for studying for AMEB and Trinity College London exams
  • Affordable rates
  • Child-friendly teaching method

Cons

  • Limited slots
  • Better for children and for gospel music lovers

Robins Music Academy is led by Natalie Robins who has decades of experience in teaching piano, choral singing, and drama. She has education and practice from Trinity College London.

She’s a great choice for those who want exposure to gospel songs. After all, she also leads choirs who are trained for competitions.

Another strength of hers is in teaching piano theory for the Australian Music Examinations Board and Trinity College London musical exams. Her students have a great passing rate for these.

In addition, her rates are affordable for most students. She’s also flexible for negotiations in case you’ll avail of long-term lessons.

We also like her teaching method, as it incorporates storytelling and creating mental images. This encourages younger students to be more creative while playing.

There are only a couple of downsides to this school. First, their slots are limited because of their small teaching team.

Aside from this, we found their lessons more compatible with younger children and those who love gospel music.

Pros

  • Highly experienced teacher
  • Good structure for learning
  • Creates a solid foundation for musical theory and musicianship
  • Focused on performances

Cons

  • Leans more towards classical pieces
  • High demand results to limited slots

Ting Yun Music Institute is led by one of the most experienced piano teachers in Adelaide. Ting Yun has received training from teachers from different respected institutions like the Royal College of Music and Northwest National University.

In addition, he currently has the most awards from the Elder Conservatorium of the University of Adelaide, which is only awarded to the best students.

His expertise is in teaching classical pieces such as those by Mozart and Tchaikovsky. He’s a great choice for those who want a solid foundation in music theory and the classics.

The studio has a good structure in its learning program. First, the introduction program provides 12 weeks of intensive training to build dedication and teach the basics.

The following courses are focused on establishing the musicianship of students, with a focus on creativity and performance. We also appreciate the weekly forums they do to keep students up-to-date regarding their progress.

There’s also a focus on skill demonstration and performance with them. It helps in developing students’ confidence and social skills too.

If there’s a downside to them, one is that they lean more toward classical pieces and music theory. This may not be interesting to some students.

Aside from this, it is one of the most sought-after musical schools in Adelaide. Because of this, newer students may find it difficult to secure a slot.

Pros

  • Experienced and qualified instructors
  • Unique small group classes

Cons

  • Limited reviews online
  • Only has lessons on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Saili Music is a great place for kids to learn piano. The Director, Sofie, is a highly experienced instructor with more than 25 years of experience teaching in schools and privately.

She holds a Bachelor of Music from the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Adelaide University, is an AMEB examiner, as well as the President of The Music Teachers’ Association of South Australia.

The rest of the Saili Music instructors are just as qualified and experienced. We think that your child will learn a lot with them while still having fun!

Lessons are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.

What we find different about their classes is that they offer small group lessons with only a maximum of 4 students at a time.

We think this set up allows students to be engaged, confident and comfortable with performing in front of others, and inspired seeing the progress of others.

Pros

  • Professional and patient piano teacher
  • Effective and approachable lesson delivery
  • Various resources available

Cons

  • Slight limitations on lesson package variations

Piano with Samantha is an institution that provides individuals with comprehensive and professional piano services. Celebrating over 25 years in the industry, the founder and teacher have been teaching the said lessons way back in 1995 which says a lot about the quality and expertise of their field.

Highly and diversely qualified through various training and certifications, we like that her approach to teaching piano lessons not only involves the fundamental of the instruments but also engage students through various visuals and encourage imagination in the field as well.

Past clients have commended her for her patient and motivating approach to teaching that enabled students to develop at their own pace and in a way that is most effective and comfortable for them in the long run.

Note though that rates and packages of her services are slightly limited in terms of their inclusions and more customized take on services.

Overall, with her comprehensive and approachable take on piano lessons, various resources readily available on their website, and adequate books and equipment, we highly recommend them to clients in the area looking for such lessons.
