Pros
- Substantial client portfolio
- Clear industry and market expertise
- Extensive lineup of services
- Internship Program
Cons
- Expertise is limited to lifestyle and community brands
littlelionPR roared into the PR scene in 2012 and continues to deliver loud and clear.
Clients would be glad to know that littlelionPR specialises in personal and corporate, lifestyle and community brands and events. For brands in these particular beats, we think this firm would be a great fit for their communications needs.
Speaking of their service offerings, they run the gamut from publicity campaigns, look book designs, media partnerships, to show productions. We can’t possibly list them all here, but trust us when we say they can take care of anything.
This is probably one of the firm’s best value propositions, as many clients find it convenient to hire a PR agency that can deliver a wide range of executions.
We did a deep dive into littlelionPR’s social media presence and we can say for certain that their work speaks for themselves.
A large part of what makes them good is their connections. Nurturing media and influencer connections makes for an effective campaign, and we can see that littlelionPR leverages that for their clients strategically.
What we also find really heartwarming is the way they show their love for their craft with an internship program that helps shape future careers.
We highly recommend littlelionPR to personalities, brands and organisations that are looking for a lifestyle and community slant.

- Recognised by the Public Relations Institute of Australia
- Complete in-house communications services
Cons
- Not a fit for individual branding needs
Backed by over 25 years of experience. Hughes has curated and protected the reputations of local and international clients and organisations.
We were impressed with Hughes’ portfolio, as this firm has over 50 organisations under their care. These include big names such as Adelaide Airport and nonprofits like Helping Hand.
That said, we find that Hughes’ primary clientele and area of expertise are organisations in the finance, infrastructure, agriculture, health, education and not-for-profit sectors.
We were glad to know that Hughes was the first PR agency to win the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s 2013 South Australian Awards for Excellence in the Professional Consulting category.
We like that they have extensive case studies, which showcases the depth of their expertise. This shows potential clients that they are not just skilled thinkers, but that they also excel in execution.
We’re also glad to share that Hughes offers issues and crisis management, which is a discipline in itself. This expertise has proven especially relevant in this digital age, so clients will be glad to know that they don’t need to hire a separate specialist for this.
Finally, they offer another timely service: digital, social, and media training. This is upskilling many clients don’t initially realise they need, but this is of great help for those doing PR for the first time, or those that generally just need more handholding.

Pros
- A wide portfolio of services
- Nationwide reach
- Clear industry and market expertise
- Recognised by the Public Relations Institute of Australia
- Specialises in industrial dispute communication and crisis management
Cons
- Limited client portfolio
- Limited to no experience in the lifestyle beat
Ball Public Relations, established in 1998, is one of the top PR agencies in the region for industrial dispute communication and crisis management.
We’ve found that Ball Public Relations’ client base is largely comprised of industries in the manufacturing, engineering, construction, aviation, education, recreation and food sectors.
Potential clients will appreciate that they specialise in crisis management, which not all agencies can do well. This tells us that they are familiar with addressing issues as they unfold, and can form and execute solid strategy on the fly.
But the good news is that this is not the only thing they do. Ball Public Relations boasts a wide lineup of services, which include media skills training, event management, and even community engagement, which we appreciate.
In terms of case studies, they have several good ones published on their website. This is both indicative of their approach to communications and a testament to their expertise in the field.
Their client portfolio isn’t as voluminous as some of the entries on this list, but we highly appreciate the fact that the clients they have worked with have been with them for a number of years already.
If clients need some extra support or expert insight for an urgent matter, we would certainly point them to Ball Public Relations.

Pros
- Award-winning firm
- Impressive client portfolio
- Local office but with a nationwide reach
- Clear industry and market expertise
- Published case studies
- Recognised by the Public Relations Institute of Australia
- Has its own media training and design arms
- Can do video production
Cons
- Limited experience in personality and lifestyle PR
With over 40 years of experience in building and protecting brand reputations, Michels Warren is one of the leading PR agencies in Adelaide.
Michels Warren’s industry expertise spans government, manufacturing, finance, health, sport, defence, not-for-profit and art organisations.
In terms of personality and lifestyle PR, they don’t seem to have as much experience, so they are probably not the best fit for brands in these categories.
We think that Michels Warren’s approach to public relations is largely traditional, with the bulk of their expertise grounded in classic media platforms. They are familiar with social media strategy and digital advertising, but perhaps only a generalist level.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but this means that clients looking to get fresh visibility on newer and trendier channels may not get the expert insight they need.
We love that they have their own graphic design arm called ChinaShop so organisations that need it don’t have to go elsewhere. They also have their own media training arm, 5PR Media Training, that takes care of familiarising clients on how to deal with the media effectively.
Our only hesitation is that they don’t leverage modern media as aggressively as some of the PR firms on this list. We reckon it could be that the industries they cater to don’t really consider this a need, hence the lack of exposure.
That being said, we can vouch for Michels Warren’s added value to industry-specific organisations looking for a steady hand backed by years of experience.

Pros
- Fresh and edgy approach
- Leverages modern media
- Diverse service portfolio
- On call 24/7
- DIY PR Kit
Cons
- No clear industry expertise
- No published case studies yet
Established in 2014 by Maree Hopgood, Girl About Town is poised to lead a new generation of identity management experts.
Being one of the industry’s fresher faces, industry expertise isn’t clearly defined just yet. But we are glad to report that Girl About Town’s youthful and unique approach to PR tends to attract clients from the arts, fashion, retail, and food sectors.
We were pleasantly surprised by Girl About Town’s social media presence. Unlike some of the entries on this list, they leverage social media as a major part of their toolkit.
This is impressive to us because it reflects how they’ve mastered the language of their target clients. We think that they would be an amazing fit for brands that are looking to bring their identity and lend their voice to the digital age.
Their upbeat energy is also seamlessly reflected in their portfolio of services. More than PR, they do a whole host of creative services, which include styling, photography, videography, and website development.
One thing that stands out to us is their DIY PR Kit, which is an absolute innovation and proof of their creativity in this field. For just $99, brands get a thorough toolkit and resource that helps them develop focused strategies for their campaigns.
Though Girl About Town doesn’t have published case studies as of late, we believe this is due mostly to their newness in the field and not a reflection of their abilities.
Bottomline, we are happy to recommend Girl About Town for clients seeking fresh executions that will elevate their brands.
