Top 5 Sexual Health Clinics in Adelaide

Pool of Doctors - We chose clinics with experienced and licensed doctors. We prefer clinics with sexual health specialists rather than general practitioners.

Availability - We picked clinics that are located in an accessible area and have long operating hours. We also considered how responsive they are to calls and how easy it is to book an appointment.

Range of Service - We selected clinics that offer a wide range of sexual health services. We prefer those that offer not just physical services but also therapy and counselling.

Patient Care - We looked into how accommodating the staff are, how nice and helpful they are, and how respectful they are towards patients.

Pros

  • Professional doctors
  • Friendly staff
  • Accessible location
  • Free sexual health service

Cons

  • Long wait time
  • Can be hard to contact

Adelaide Sexual Health Centre is managed by the government of South Australia. It’s one of the top providers of sexual health care services in Adelaide.

What we love about this clinic is how accessible it is to Adelaideans. It’s located in the city centre, and the services are free of charge, so more people can ask them for help.

We also commend the staff for doing their best to keep every treatment their patients receive confidential, as the topic of sexual health can be sensitive for others.

In addition to that, the staff are very friendly towards the patients, making them easier to approach.

The doctors are also very professional throughout the consultation. They listen thoroughly to what the patient is saying without any judgement and provide them with useful advice.

The only downsides would be the long wait time and the poor communication system of the clinic.

Because their services are free, more people will come to get checked. As such, you can expect to wait long hours despite making an appointment.

They can also be hard to contact at times because of the number of callers, so be patient when trying to reach out.

2. Shine SA

Pros

  • Has a sexual health line available
  • Wide variety of services
  • Free services for people under the age of 25
  • Experienced doctors

Cons

  • Appointments can be hard to make
  • Some staff members can be rude

Another clinic that provides accessible sexual health services is Shine SA in Hyde Street. They provide free service for people under the age of 25, so all they have to worry about is the cost of consumables.

Our favourite thing about Shine SA is they have a sexual health line available for patients with questions regarding sexual health.

This makes their services more accessible to people dealing with sexual health issues and allows them to be more comfortable since they won’t have to see the doctor face to face.

We also love how wide their range of sexual health services is. They provide counselling, gender well-being service, and rapid HIV testing via Rapido.

They have professional sexual health counsellors, so you can share your concerns with them, and they’ll gladly help you.

They also have three general practitioners and one sexual health physician who allow them to help more people.

The only drawbacks are the rude staff members and the difficulty of making an appointment.

While there are some staff members who are very kind and helpful, there are still some who are rude and make the visit unpleasant.

It’s also quite hard making an appointment at the clinic. They’re closed on weekends and have a lot of patients, so looking for a convenient time can be difficult.

Pros

  • Offers a wide range of services
  • Qualified doctors
  • Some doctors are friendly
  • Well-maintained clinic
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Long wait time
  • Some doctors can be rude

Globe Medical is one of the leading health services providers in Adelaide.

The clinic is an AGPAL-accredited medical centre, so you don’t have to worry about their credentials and capabilities.

The clinic’s sexual health services mainly focus on contraception and family planning consultations, but they also offer other services that focus on men’s and women’s health.

They also help men with erectile dysfunction and keep the treatments confidential. They have male doctors that specialise in men’s health, so if you feel uncomfortable talking to a female doctor about this, you always have a choice.

What we love about Globe Medical is its pool of doctors. They are licensed and highly trained, making us feel confident with their knowledge.

They have seven general practitioners who have a wide range of knowledge in sexual health, men’s health, and women’s health.

The only problem with their doctors is that some of them can be rude at times. They say rude remarks and have the tendency to dismiss the patient without listening to them.

Another concern of ours is the long wait time despite making an appointment. Some had to wait for over an hour just to see a doctor.

On the bright side, the clinic is well-maintained and quite large, making the wait time somewhat bearable.

Pros

  • Wide variety of services
  • Trained sexual health physician
  • Treats men with chronic pelvic pain
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • The doctor can be rude at times
  • Closed on Wednesdays and weekends

Dr Tonia Mezzini is one of the most reputable and leading sexual health physicians in Adelaide. Friends and even other general practitioners often recommend her when dealing with sexual health issues.

Dr Mezzini was awarded a Master of HIV, STIs, and Sexual Health and has worked in various clinics, including Clinic 275 (now Shine SA), Adelaide’s Women’s Health Centre, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and more.

Her expertise and experience in the field assure us that she has enough knowledge to help patients with sexual health issues.

What we love about Dr Mezzini, aside from her background, is her wide range of services. She’s better known for her women’s health-related services, but she’s also very well-versed in men’s health.

In fact, she’s one of the few physicians who work with men with chronic pelvic pain, proving that her expertise goes beyond STIs and HIV.

We also love that her clinic is located near the main road, so it’s very accessible. There are also parking spaces provided, which is very convenient for clients.

We were just a bit disappointed when we heard from some of the people we know that she could sometimes be insensitive. Some of them felt like they weren’t heard and that the doctor was quite cold.

Some trans men also felt uncomfortable when they visited to ask for help with hormone replacement therapy.

She’s also closed on Wednesdays and weekends, so scheduling may be difficult.

5. UniSA Medical Clinic

Pros

  • Offers bulk billing
  • Highly qualified doctors
  • Wide range of services
  • Excellent patient care

Cons

  • Long wait time
  • Can be hard to contact

Another AGPAL-accredited clinic is UniSA Medical Clinic. They provide a wide range of services, including sexual and contraceptive health.

The clinic’s large pool of doctors is among the reasons why this centre is one of our top sexual health clinics in Adelaide.

They have seven highly qualified general practitioners, some of them with specialisation in sexual health, making them very much credible in providing health services.

They offer services like Implanon and IUD insertion and removal, sexual health consultations, and treatment for reproductive health issues.

Some of their male doctors also specialise in men’s health, so men dealing with sexually-related health issues like delayed ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, and prolonged erection can comfortably consult with them.

We also love how kind and professional the doctors are towards the patients. They comfort them, explain their problems without any judgment, and provide them with a solution.

They also accept bulk billing, which helps patients avoid the burden of paying for health-related services.

The only disappointing parts would be the long wait time and the clinic’s communication system.

They’re quite hard to contact at times. You’ll have to repeatedly contact them to get through the line and talk to one of the receptionists.

Even after making an appointment, expect that you’ll still spend some time waiting as there can be a lot of patients.
