Slurp that soupy goodness at the 10 best places to eat soup in Adelaide!

I like making soup in my kitchen with the supplies I have! However, there are some soups that are special to a restaurant. I can’t recreate them with how unique they are.

That’s why, as a soup lover, I rounded up all the best places to enjoy a flavorful bowl of soup in Radelaide!

I especially made this list for people looking for an effortless yet hearty meal and those looking for filling food without the bloating.

Lucia’s Fine Foods is located in the heart of Adelaide Central Market. They serve Italian food, such as pizza, panini, and spaghetti. They used their family recipes to create their menu!

Included in their menu is minestrone, a soup made from pasta, beans, vegetables, tomatoes, and herbs. I eat this soup whenever I need food that’s filling yet light. I found it nutritious and bursting with flavour because of its assortment of vegetables!

I also sometimes add buttered ciabatta. This is an Italian flatbread toasted with rich, creamy butter. It adds a mix of texture to the soup. Plus, I can also dip a piece of bread into the minestrone!

Pro tip: If you want to remake their dishes at home, the restaurant has an in-house deli! The cheeses, meats, and spices they use in their meals are sold here, so buy and stock up through their website!

Sit Lo

Address: 30 Bank Street
Contact: +61 456 659 841
Operating hours: Monday to Saturday – 11 am to 9 pm
Website

Sit Lo is an Asian restaurant specialising in Vietnamese food. While their main branch is at Bank Street, they also have locations on Waymouth Street and at the University of Adelaide’s West City campus. So, if you are craving hot Vietnamese soup, there are many places to go to!

They have two kinds of pho: beef or chicken. I ordered the beef pho with additional meat slices, making it more filling.

Also called bún bò huế, this is made from spicy beef and pork with vermicelli noodles, which are thinner than the standard noodle size. It’s two meat flavours combined in one bowl with a strong kick of spice!

Pro tip: Sit Lo is turning 11 this July! They’re hosting gimmicks and giveaways posted on their Instagram to celebrate the occasion. Don’t miss out on winning their shirts, caps, trinkets, and vouchers! Last year, they gave away vouchers and merch to one lucky winner through an Instagram raffle.

Located in the Northpark Shopping Centre, Le Soup also offers Vietnamese soups, including vegan-friendly options!

I liked it here because I could have a maximum of five toppings for my pho! Aside from the standard ingredients of noodles, broth, and vegetables, I could also have beef tender, braised brisket, braised tofu, oxtail, or steamed chicken!

I also tried out their custom soup menu. I chose rice noodles from their noodle options (other choices are vermicelli, egg, and Hokkien) and chicken broth from their broth options (other choices are beef, laksa, and vegan). The protein options included beef, seafood, chicken, and pork.

Pro tip: Le Soup has seasonal special menus featured on their website and social media platforms. One exclusive dish they have is the osso bucco noodle soup, which is slow-boiled for six hours to maximise flavour. This dish is available for dine-in and takeaway, so slurp at it before it is gone!

  • Monday to Thursday – 11 am to 9:30 pm
  • Friday to Saturday – 11 am to 10:30 pm
  • Sunday – 11 am to 10 pm

I went to ParkBongSook Restaurant on Wright Street for a different Asian soup experience. They offered a variety of soups and stews, best recommended for people with a high spice tolerance! No worries if you’re not, since they also have mild-flavoured alternatives.

Their main soups are pork- and beef-based. Their pork soups are rich in fat and flavour, with a spicier version made with kimchi.

For beef, they have tender beef rib soup, including a hotter version. All soups include rice, which makes them a filling meal.

For their stew, they have pork- and seafood-based flavours. The pork had a rich soup, which had been simmering for a long time, and a lovely texture from the additional tofu. The seafood stew had a spicy kick to it, blending well with its mild saltiness and its tofu.

Pro tip: ParkBongSook restaurant prides itself on having in-house-made kimchi, a staple of their dishes! The kimchi is part of the restaurant’s essential complementary dishes, alongside rice, soup, and sides. These enhance the soup-eating experience, so try mixing them in the broth!

  • Monday to Friday – 7 am to 8:30 pm

Website

Maison Clement is a specific type of French restaurant called a bistro bouillon, which serves affordable and delicious food. Moreover, they were given the 2024 Excellence Award from the Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards!

Their French onion soup is available for lunch and dinner. It’s made from a slow, vigorous cooking process involving caramelising onions and blending them with beef stock. The soup then has a fragrant aroma, with a slight sweetness from the onion mixing with the savoury beef.

It’s served with croutons and Gruyère cheese, a type of hard Swiss cheese that has a subtle salty taste. This made the soup even more flavourful and textured! The croutons added a crunch, and the cheese made the soup thicker and creamier.

Pro tip: When dining in Maison Clement, it’s best to acquaint yourself with their four sections. They have a boulangerie, a patisserie, and a viennoiserie, aside from their main bistro bouillon. These sections are classified according to the food served, each focusing on Vienna-inspired pastries, baguettes, sweets, and main dishes, respectively.

Operating hours: Monday to Friday – 11 am to 2:30 pm

Lucky Dumpling specialises in serving hawker-inspired food, providing a variety of Asian dishes.

One soup I liked from them is the Singapore-style seafood laksa. It had the strong, flavourful, briny taste of prawns and fish, with the coconut milk that laksa is known for. The soup is creamy and heavy, best eaten slowly with a ravenous appetite!

I also tried out their prawn and chicken wonton soup, made out of dumplings and succulent broth from a slow boiling process. I loved how the prawn and chicken flavours seeped into the soup!

Pro tip: You’re up for a soup-rise at Lucky Dumpling and Noodle because they’re bringing back a special dish this July! Their Malaysian-style prawn mee is available starting the first Sunday of the month. You may call them to reserve a bowl or arrive before the restaurant’s opening to get first pick!

Whenever I want to bring along friends or family to my soup adventures, we often land in Go-In Hotpot at Gouger Street!

Hotpot is best for bonding because of its large serving. Here, noodles, meats, seafood, mushrooms, and greens are cooked in a shared broth simmering in a deep pot.

Hotpots also allow soup personalisation with their array of ingredients! In this restaurant, we could have up to four soup flavours in our pot. We could also have spicy and mild options.

Their abalone and black chicken soup interested me the most. It was made with goji berries, dates, spring onions, and pork ribs. The variety of meats made the base broth even more flavorful, with a tinge of tang from berries and the buttery feel of abalone.

Pro tip: If you’re looking for a unique dining experience on top of your soup escapade, check out Go-In Hotpot’s live seafood selection! They offer fish, squid, clams, and more. This seafood is picked fresh from the market and kept alive with minimal prep for customers to cook in their pots or at home through takeaway.

Ryo’s Noodles is also on Gouger Street. They specialise in ramen, a type of noodle soup made from wheat-based noodles, broth, and a variety of toppings. Their menu highlights tonkotsu ramen, made from slow-cooking pork bones for over twelve hours.

Through the simmering process, the resulting ramen broth has a creamy, thick feel to it. Its characteristic thin noodles add texture to the soup.

This is served with a soft-boiled egg marinated in soy sauce and spring onions, adding a slightly sweet and salty flavour.

They also offer spicy options, such as tantanmen. This is a bowl inspired by Sichuan noodles, a Chinese soup known for its savoury and spicy taste.

Pro tip: Ryo’s Noodles has a wide selection of Japanese-inspired dishes that can be paired with the ramen bowls. They also have bento boxes, donburi, and a ramen set with customisable toppings!

Honki Tonki in Hindley Street is a Hong Kong-inspired fast food restaurant. They have noodle-based dishes such as soba noodles dressed in soy marinade, glass noodles with vegetables, and egg noodles served with pork and eggs.

Their noodle soups are best paired with dumplings, which elevates the soup’s flavour!

My favourite soup bowl from this restaurant is their Master Mushroom Trilogy. This is made with rice noodles, tofu, corn, greens, and—the dish’s highlight—three types of mushrooms.

The tofu and mushrooms add varied textures to the soup alongside the noodles, while the broth is light with a mild, meaty taste, balancing out the toppings.

All their soups are also available for takeaway and delivery, so I could have these in the comfort of my home!

Pro tip: Honki Tonki sells their in-house chilli oil! It’s available on their takeaway menu, with the price ranging from $7 to $12.50 depending on the jar’s size.

Diaspora Kouzina, a restaurant focusing on serving Greek-inspired food, is a staple brunch spot for me and my friends! It’s one of the best places to have a midday meal because of their all-day breakfast menu.

Aside from that, they also have a lunch menu and a selection of coffee and juice beverages.

We also go here for their avgolemono, a traditional Greek soup, which is available on their lunch menu. It’s served with butter-toasted bread.

The soup itself is aromatic and delectable, made of shredded chicken, egg, and rice, topped with the sweet and sour tang of lemon juice. I like dipping a bread piece into the thick, milky soup, adding quite a crunch!

They also serve gluten-free and vegan options, best for individuals with food sensitivities.

Pro tip: Diaspora Kouzina’s breakfast is actually an all-day service! You may pair their breakfast dishes with the soup alongside coffee. Their coffee menu highlights Greek-style beverages, such as the Greek double, so don’t miss out on a full Greek culinary experience!
