The Best Waffles in Adelaide Even Non-Sweet Tooths Will Love!

I’ll be honest, I’ve got a bit of a waffle habit. Whenever I’m wandering around the city with a bit of time to spare, I somehow always end up at a waffle shop to wolf down a couple.

There’s just something about that mix of crispy edges and fluffy inside that gives me the kick I need to keep going. Throw in the extras, like Belgian chocolate, fresh fruit, or a scoop of ice cream, and it’s the kind of treat that never disappoints!

So, consider this my waffle map: a mix of my favourite waffle shops in Adelaide I keep going back to and a few spots that locals can’t stop talking about.

Waffle King

Website: https://www.waffleking.com.au/

Address: 61 Jetty Rd, Glenelg

Contact details: +61 413 279 731

Operating hours:

9:00 AM – 10:00 PM (SUN-THURS)

9:00 AM – 11:00 PM (FRI and SAT)

Waffle King is a little out of the way from my usual commute, but I still make the effort to visit whenever I can. The shop has roots in Belgian tradition, with specialties built around Liege-style sugar waffles that feel truly distinctive.

Their menu is quite extensive, yet the one that always stands out for me is the Belgian cinnamon sugar waffle with peanut butter and ice cream. It comes out warm, crisp on the edges and soft in the middle, exactly how a good waffle should be.

What makes it even more memorable are the extras. The cinnamon sugar brings a gentle spice, the peanut butter adds richness, and the ice cream ties it all together with sweetness. It’s a combination that feels indulgent without being heavy.

Pro tip: If you can’t make it down to Glenelg, Waffle King is on Uber Eats, and the waffles travel surprisingly well. Just make sure to ask for the ice cream to be packed separately so the waffle stays crisp until it arrives. That way, you still get the warm, fluffy texture without it turning soggy in transit.

Cotto Espresso

Website: https://www.cotto.com.au/

Address: 112 Prospect Rd, Prospect

Contact details: +61 8 8420 0808

Operating hours:

6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (MON-SAT)

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (SUN)

Cotto Espresso has become one of my favourite city stops whenever I’m craving waffles. It sits on Prospect Road, only a few kilometres from the city centre, which makes it an easy place to drop in after work.

What I enjoy most is the atmosphere. The setup feels airy and simple, and the interior is especially bright on a sunny day with plenty of comfortable seating. Their waffles also stand out for being a little different, especially the Sin Amon Waffles.

The name is a playful nod to cinnamon, and the treat itself is a mix of cinnamon sugar, ice cream, and a drizzle of caramel sauce. It has just the right amount of sweetness, and I find it pairs perfectly with their cold brew coffee.

Pro tip: Cotto Espresso fills up quickly on weekends, so it’s smart to book ahead if you’re planning a visit with friends. Groups larger than four are strongly encouraged to reserve a table, and the cafe can only accommodate up to 16 people at once.

My Kingdom For a Horse

Website: https://www.mykingdomforahorse.com.au/

Address: 191 Wright St

Contact details: +61 8 8410 7408

Operating hours:

7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (MON-FRI)

8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (SAT and SUN)

A waffle spot I think most would have no difficulties finding is My Kingdom For a Horse. They’ve got four locations across the city, but their location on Wright Street serves as my usual stop whenever I need a quick waffle fix.

Their menu is packed with seasonal brunch favourites and a tempting range of waffles. Out of all I’ve tried, their house-made Belgian-style waffles served with rich chocolate sauce, crunchy honeycomb, and a swirl of Chantilly cream is the best.

The balance of crisp waffle, smooth cream, and sweet crunch is spot on, indulgent without feeling too heavy. I like to make it a fuller meal by adding something on the side, like fries or a poached egg.

Pro tip: If you’re planning a longer catch-up, their Wright Street cafe is licensed, so you can move from coffee to a glass of South Australian wine or craft beer without changing venues. It makes the waffles feel even more like a proper occasion, especially if you’re visiting with friends.

Contact details: +61 8 8221 6828

Operating hours:

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (MON-FRI)

8:00 AM – 2:00 PM (SAT and SUN)

There are days when I go for a long jog and end up feeling famished well before noon. When that happens, I often head to Let’s Brunch because their generous portions always leave me satisfied.

I usually order the fried chicken and waffles combo, since the crunch and touch of salt balance the sweetness perfectly. But when I’m in the mood for a purely sweet treat, the Let’s Waffle is my top choice.

It feels like a celebration on a plate, with freshly made waffles topped with Nutella mascarpone, strawberries, Oreos, chocolate shards, fairy floss, and ice cream. It gives me a sugar rush that almost makes me want to head out for another jog!

Pro tip: Let’s Brunch caters for private functions and events, so if you’re planning a celebration, it’s best to contact the team early through this website or over the phone. They can tailor packages to suit your group size and occasion, and booking ahead ensures you secure the date and menu you want.

St Louis

Website: https://www.st-louis.com.au/

Address: 19 Gouger St

Contact details: +61 8 8212 2621

Operating hours:

7:30 AM – 10:00 PM (MON-THURS)

7:30 AM – 11:00 PM (FRI)

9:00 AM – 11:00 PM (SAT)

9:00 AM – 10:00 PM (SUN)

St Louis is a waffle shop I’m confident most people will have no trouble finding, with 12 locations now open across Adelaide. They’re all about satisfying a sweet tooth, offering gelato, churros, crepes, and plenty more.

What I enjoy most is their focus on croffles, a clever mix of croissant and waffle that’s truly indulgent. Each one is pressed until crisp on the outside and soft inside, then finished with gelato or chocolate for a rich treat.

You can even create your own croffle combination, which makes experimenting part of the fun. My favourite mix is pistachio, Biscoff cookie, dark chocolate, and peanut butter gelato. The crunchy texture with that nutty sweetness never lets me down.

Pro tip: Many St Louis cafes stay open late, so it’s perfect for a post-dinner dessert. Ask about their seasonal gelato flavours and pair one with your croffle for a unique twist you’ll not find on the regular menu.

Waffle Tree

Address: 118 Prospect Rd, Prospect

Contact details: +61 499 315 000

Operating hours:

5:00 PM – 10:30 PM (SUN-THURS)

5:00 PM – 11:00 PM (FRI and SAT)

If the usual waffle feels a little too plain, Waffle Tree in Prospect is worth a visit. Alongside the classics, they serve bubble waffles, a style that was first created and made famous in Hong Kong.

What sets it apart is the texture. Instead of the flat grid of a traditional waffle, the batter forms small bubbles that are crisp on the outside and soft inside, almost like little pockets you can pull apart.

You can enjoy it on its own since it already has a touch more sweetness than the standard version. My personal favourite is the Nutella bubble waffle, where the hazelnut flavour lifts the sweetness to another level.

Pro tip: Waffle Tree’s bubble waffles are best enjoyed fresh, so if you’re dining in, ask for them straight from the press rather than letting them sit too long. The bubbles stay crisp on the outside and soft inside, which makes the texture stand out.

Waffle & Coffee

Address: 2/20-24 Leigh St

Contact details: +61 8 8231 7677

Operating hours:

2:00 PM – 8:00 PM (MON)

2:00 PM – 10:00 PM (TUES-THURS)

12:00 PM – 11:00 PM (FRI and SAT)

Waffle & Coffee is a shop I’ve been hearing a lot about lately. It sits on Leigh Street, just off Hindley Street, which explains why I hadn’t come across it before.

As the name suggests, the menu focuses on waffles and coffee, with plenty of variety to keep things interesting. They serve the traditional style, but what makes them stand out is that they load their waffles with add-ons to create something more distinctive.

Friends of mine who live nearby have tried much of the menu, and they keep telling me the chocolate waffle with strawberry and cream is the one to beat. The sweetness of the chocolate is balanced perfectly by the tartness of the strawberry.

Pro tip: If you’re visiting on a Friday or Saturday night, plan to arrive a little earlier. Waffle & Coffee stays open until 11 PM on weekends, and the later hours can get busy with groups stopping in after dinner.
