My sweet tooth can’t resist the 7 best Belgian chocolates in Adelaide!

I have a raging sweet tooth, and I’m always on the lookout for the best places to eat delectable, satisfying sweets! I previously checked out a few dessert spots in Adelaide’s CBD. Now, I can’t stop my cravings for Belgian chocolate.

Belgian chocolate is unique for its craft technique, producing a rich, deep, and distinct cocoa flavour in the final product. It can be made into chocolate blocks, bite-sized sweets, sauce for crepes and pancakes, or used as a base for chocolate drinks!

I loved scouting and trying out all the different ways I could eat Belgian chocolate. Here’s a list of shops selling Belgian chocolate if you’re interested in trying it out.

Haigh’s Chocolates is my go-to shop whenever I’m craving Belgian chocolates! They’ve been in Adelaide since 1915 and have refined the craft of integrating Belgian chocolate flavours into their sweets.

I especially recommend their truffles and pralines!

They have a truffle selection with a range of Belgian chocolate-infused bite-sized sweets in cute packaging.

It features dark, white, and milk Belgian chocolate, all delectable and rich, with the right amount of sweetness that’s not overpowering. Some of the flavours are milk praline, dark raspberry, white lemon, and McLaren Vale Shiraz.

This is best for those looking for a quick treat or a gift for a loved one!

Pro tip: Haigh’s Chocolates releases holiday-exclusive chocolates! These include Christmas, Easter, Lunar New Year, Bastille Day, and World Chocolate Day. Some of their limited flavours integrate Belgian chocolate, so keep on the lookout for their product updates through Instagram!

Just Bliss Chocolates is a quick, accessible, delicious chocolate kiosk shop in Rundle Mall! I could easily pop in for a sweet snack after shopping.

The shop incorporates Belgian chocolates into their products, giving them an extra smooth, deep flavour profile.

One of their staple products, the milk chocolate marshmallow, is made with their signature Belgian milk chocolate! This sweet is full of airy, decadent vanilla-flavoured marshmallow fluff. The fluff is encased in a red Belgian chocolate lip-shaped exterior.

The trendy Dubai chocolate is also available in their store, made with a Belgian chocolate twist! Belgian chocolate is used for the sweet’s exterior and adds another layer of deep cocoa goodness to the nutty flavour.

Pro tip: Looking for more sweets to satisfy your cravings? Just Bliss Chocolates also sells macarons, coming in assorted flavours, such as pistachio, strawberry, and lemon meringue. One of their macaron flavours is made with Belgian chocolate, so be sure to check it out in their store!

Red Cacao is an artisan chocolatier offering a range of Belgian chocolates made with local and foreign ingredients! I go here specifically for their truffles and their signature collection.

One truffle I love going back to in this chocolatier is the Tia Maria, made with a hint of Tia Maria coffee liqueur and finished off with Belgian dark chocolate, making a sumptuous, creamy, bittersweet treat!

The chocolatier also has sweeter truffles, such as the leatherwood honey truffle. This sweet is made with Belgian milk chocolate and the aromatic gourmet Tasmanian leatherwood honey. The final taste is a mix between light sweetness and earthiness from the honey variant and rich, creamy texture from the milk chocolate.

Pro tip: Red Cacao also has a cafe, which is best experienced with their Belgian chocolates! Their beverages include tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juices, frappes, and more. The cafe menu also has a pair selection, offering truffle or ganache with a selected drink!

Chocolatree is a dessert shop using Belgian chocolate for their fondues, waffles, crepes and pancake sauces! The Belgian chocolate adds a boost of velvety, milky flavour to their sweets.

I order their thick, frothy, and creamy Belgian hot chocolate drink whenever the weather is chilly.

They also have a collection of crepes topped with Belgian chocolate drizzle! Two of the crepes that suit the Belgian chocolate sauce are the banana berry crepe and the peanut butter brownie crepe.

The banana and strawberry slices’ sweetness complements the chocolate’s rich flavour profile, while the slightly crunchy peanut butter and chunky brownie slice add a texture to the Belgian chocolate sauce.

Pro tip: Are you a university student who’s a fan of Chocolatree? The dessert shop offers a 25% discount to academics every Wednesday night, from 6 pm to 10 pm! Reward yourself with their chocolate sweets after an exam, a night out with friends, or as a source of motivation while studying.

Bracegirdle’s House of Fine Chocolate is a multi-award-winning, Adelaide-based chocolatier. With 20 years of experience in this industry, they’ve received awards for their handmade Belgian chocolate goods, such as the Champion Chocolate title during the 2023 Royal Food Awards.

One chocolate product I love from this shop is their Macadamia and River Murray Sea Salt Block. This is a solid, thick block of Belgian milk chocolate mixed with macadamia nuts and salt from the River Murray. The nuts add a crunchy texture and a rich, buttery flavour to the chocolate, complementing the sea salt.

Another Belgian chocolate block I recommend is the dark Daintree with native Davidson plum. There are also cocoa nibs embedded into the block, adding an extra richness and texture to the chocolate, while the plums are tart with a subtle hint of bittersweetness.

Pro tip: They have branches across Adelaide. Aside from their store located in Clarence Gardens, they are also available at Blackwood, McLaren Vale, and their newest addition, Hahndorf. Get your Belgian chocolate fix at any of these locations!

Customers flock to Maya’s Fine Chocolates for their pralines and chocolate bars, made with Belgian chocolate encasings! They also have hot and cold chocolate beverages and bonbons.

My friend recommended their pistachio ganache praline, bringing in a nutty, creamy flavour thanks to the Belgian milk chocolate and the nutty, subtly smooth ganache.

The chocolate shop also releases time-limited products during holidays, such as their red velvet cheesecake launched last Valentine’s Day! This sweet is a thick, decadent, tangy chunk of thickened cream filling within a heart-shaped Belgian chocolate casing. The casing also has flower petal details, making it a romantic gift.

Pro tip: Speaking of holiday-exclusive Belgian chocolate product releases, you can keep updated with their surprise launches through their Instagram! Aside from the red velvet cheesecake chocolate, they also released an egg-shaped Belgian chocolate collection in celebration of Easter. These chocolates come in various flavours, such as Biscoff and salted caramel and Dubai pistachio knafeh.

The chocolatier also has seasonal and time-limited releases, which you can check out through their Facebook account!

I can never get enough of their chocolate cloud! This cake has a thick Belgian chocolate mousse shaped into a half-sphere, paired with vanilla cream and a soft sponge case.

Its texture is diverse, starting off with a crisp crunch into the mousse and followed by a tender sponge base. The cake finishes with the subtle sweetness of the vanilla cream right in the cake’s middle!

Pro tip: I recommend pairing your cake or sweets with their hot chocolate beverages. They have a line of flavours, such as hazelnut praline, Spanish spices, Aztec chilli, French Earl Grey, and mint.
