The Best Charcuterie Spots in Adelaide for a Fancy Friend Hang (or Date!)

Catching up with my buddies isn’t as easy as it used to be. Everyone is busy with work, family, or just trying to keep up with life. So when we finally manage to lock in a night together, we make it count.

Lately, we’ve been swapping out the usual pizza and pub food for charcuterie boards. They’re perfect for sharing, and there’s always something for everyone. You get cured meats, cheeses, and some extras that make the whole thing feel special.

After a few solid nights of grazing our way through the city, I decided to round up the best charcuterie spots in Adelaide. If you’re keen to try something different, these places are worth a visit.

9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (WED)

7:00 AM – 9:00 PM (FRI)

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (SAT)

Lucia’s Fine Foods is our usual pick whenever we’re after a classic charcuterie experience. Tucked inside the Central Market, this long-standing deli has been serving up Italian flavours since 1957.

Their charcuterie selection is simple but full of flavours. You’ll find staples like prosciutto di Parma, mild and spicy salami, coppa, and mortadella, all sliced fresh to order.

They also do a beautiful bresaola that’s lean and rich, especially good with a splash of lemon and some rocket. I just wish they’d offer dine-in someday, since for now, their delicious charcuterie boards are only available for takeout and delivery.

Pro tip: If you’re ordering a charcuterie box for delivery, consider adding a few extras like paninis or antipasti to hit the $50 threshold. That way, you get more variety and score free shipping at the same time.

Udaberri

Address: 11-13 Leigh St

Contact details: +61 8 8410 5733

Operating hours:

4:00 PM – 12:00 AM (MON-THURS)

4:00 PM – 1:30 AM (FRI)

5:00 PM – 1:30 AM (SAT)

5:00 PM – 12:00 AM (SUN)

Whenever we feel like enjoying charcuterie boards in a proper restaurant setting, we usually head to Udaberri. It’s a good spot for catching up with friends. Its European bar setup really gives it that cosy feel where everything feels relaxed and easygoing.

Since their roots are Basque, the charcuterie boards here are a little different from what most places offer. They often serve jamón, usually Serrano or Ibérico, sliced thin and served with sourdough and pickled peppers. It’s simple but full of flavour.

They also do a porcini pâté that’s rich and earthy. I find it tastes even better when we pair it with a glass of tempranillo. If you’re after something more familiar, they offer French and Spanish cheese boards that are just as satisfying.

Pro tip: If you want to help a friend discover Udaberri, send them one of their digital gift cards. It’s quick to set up, and you can even schedule it to arrive on a specific date.

APOTECA (The Apothecary 1878)

Website: https://apoteca.com.au/

Address: 118 Hindley St

Contact details: +61 8 8212 9099

Operating hours:

5:00 PM – 10:00 PM (MON-THURS)

5:00 PM – 12:00 AM (FRI and SAT)

APOTECA, which was formerly known as The Apothecary 1878, is another decent spot for charcuterie. It’s got that old-world charm with antique fittings and pressed tin ceilings that give the place a warm, classy feel without being over the top.

Their charcuterie-style offerings aren’t listed as traditional boards, but they definitely deliver. My friends and I tried their house-made pâté served with pickles and toasted brioche, and it’s certainly one of our favourites.

What I appreciate most is how well the food pairs with their wine list. The staff know their stuff, so you don’t have to overthink it. They once recommended a bottle of Barossa shiraz to us that matched perfectly with the savoury richness of the pâté.

Pro tip: APOTECA tends to fill up fast, so it’s best to book your reservation at least a month ahead. You can give them a call or make a booking online through their website.

Operating hours:

7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (WED)

7:00 AM – 9:00 PM (FRI)

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (SAT)

If variety is what you’re after, then Barossa Fine Foods is definitely worth a visit. The Knoll family has been crafting smallgoods since the 1920s and still follows traditional German methods, like air-drying and slow curing, to create their tasty delicacies.

I’ve tried a handful of their classics, including smoked ham, peppered pastrami, and mettwurst, which has just the right balance of spice and tang. Their prosciutto is silky and full of flavour, while the bresaola is lean but surprisingly rich.

When I’m short on time, I usually grab one of their charcuterie cones. It’s a simple mix of sliced meats and grissini, but it always hits the spot. So whether you’re putting together a board or just need a quick bite, Barossa is a good choice.

Pro tip: If you’re planning to buy charcuterie from Barossa Fine Foods often, it’s worth signing up for their Fine Foodies Rewards program. You can join for free in-store and earn 1 point for every dollar spent. Once you reach 500 points, you’ll get a $10 voucher. Members also enjoy weekly specials and exclusive promos!

Les Deux Coqs

Address: Central Market, Stall 2/44-60 Gouger St

Operating hours:

7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (TUES)

10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (WED)

9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (THURS)

7:00 AM – 9:00 PM (FRI)

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (SAT)

Les Deux Coqs is my go-to whenever I’m craving a proper French charcuterie. It’s located in the Central Market, so I usually swing by after my weekly grocery run to grab a platter I can enjoy at home.

Their charcuterie is made with local ingredients, and the variety is impressive. I’ve tried their rillettes, pâté en croûte, saucisson, and even their black pudding. They also offer terrines and pork pies, which are always a treat.

If I had to pick a favourite, it would be their pork rillettes. They’re rich and smooth, and they pair beautifully with a slice of baguette. I sometimes open a bottle of wine to round things out. A little sweetness goes well with the rillettes’ meaty richness.

Pro tip: If you’re visiting their shop on a Friday, don’t miss their apéro board. It’s a ready-to-go selection of charcuterie and nibbles designed for sharing, perfect if you’re planning to host a weekend get-together with friends or family.

Delicatessen Kitchen & Bar

Address: 12 Waymouth St

Contact details: +61 8 8211 8871

Operating hours:

11:30 AM – 2:30 PM, 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM (MON-FRI)

5:00 PM – 10:00 PM (SAT)

Another spot I recommend for anyone who enjoys French-style charcuterie is Delicatessen Kitchen & Bar. We only discovered it recently, but it’s quickly becoming one of our favourites.

Their charcuterie plate is generous and well thought out. It usually comes with house pickles and a rotating mix of cured meats and pâtés. The textures and flavours are balanced, and we’ve never had any trouble polishing off the whole plate.

Of all the combinations we’ve tried so far, the one that stood out most was the chicken liver parfait. It was served with cranberry toast, pork and thyme meatballs, and baked brie with garlic. Everything on that plate worked beautifully together.

Pro tip: Book ahead, especially if you’re going for charcuterie and drinks in their cellar bar. It’s a popular spot, and the downstairs area fills up quickly on weekends and after work. If you want that relaxed vibe with a good wine pairing, reserving a table gives you a good chance to enjoy it without feeling rushed.

8:00 AM – 12:00 AM (FRI)

12:00 PM – 12:00 AM (SAT)

Charcuterie always hits differently when paired with a good glass of wine. That’s why I think it’s worth giving Rascals Deli & Wine Bar a try. It’s tucked away on Bent Street, just a couple of metres from Rundle Mall.

Their charcuterie board is simple but generous. You get a mix of sliced meats, cheese, and fresh bread, all for just $30. It’s a pretty nice deal considering the variety they pack in.

The drinks are just as solid. Their wine list features a rotating mix of local and international bottles, so there’s always something new to try. If wine is not your thing, they also serve cocktails, beer, spirits, and even coffee.

La Buvette Drinkery

Address: 27 Gresham St

Contact details: +61 426 017 356

Operating hours:

3:00 PM – 12:00 AM (TUES-THURS)

3:00 PM – 2:00 AM (FRI and SAT)

Still keen to explore more French-style charcuterie? La Buvette Drinkery is well worth a visit. My friends and I love the way it channels the vibe of a Parisian neighbourhood bar, and it really stands out from the street.

Even inside, it feels just as charming. The lighting is soft, there’s French art on the walls, and the seats are subtly elegant. The charcuterie menu changes with the seasons, but you’ll usually find cheeses, cured meats, and freshly baked bread.

One of the more memorable platters we’ve had here featured tartines topped with anchovies and capers, kingfish cured with pastis and lemon, and a terrine that was rich and beautifully balanced. I’m hoping we get to try that one again soon.

Pro tip: You can treat a friend to one of La Buvette Drinkery’s delicious charcuterie boards by giving them a gift voucher. Vouchers begin at $50 and are available either at the bar or through their official website.

Mother Vine

Website: https://www.mothervine.com.au/

Address: 22/26 Vardon Ave

Contact details: +61 8 8227 2273

Operating hours:

5:00 PM – 11:00 PM (TUES-THURS)

4:00 PM – 12:00 AM (FRI and SAT)

3:00 PM – 10:00 PM (SUN)

Mother Vine is a cosy bar tucked in the East End. Its name comes from a Pinot Noir clone called MV6, or Mother Vine, which ties back to the roots of Australian winemaking. That detail gives you a good sense of what to expect here.

One of their standout features is the wine selection. They keep up to 500 bottles in the cellar, with a rotating list available by the glass. You’ll find plenty from South Australia, along with some excellent picks from France, Spain, and Italy.

Their charcuterie sits within a broader tapas-style menu. Expect cured meats, cheeses, terrines, and seasonal bites like anchovies or meatballs, all thoughtfully put together.

Pro tip: Visit on a Sunday evening for live jazz from 5 PM to 8 PM, or drop by on Thursdays for Vinyl Nights with local DJs spinning from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Both events offer a relaxed vibe that pairs perfectly with wine and charcuterie. Bookings are welcome, but walk-ins are often fine too if you arrive early.
