The 5 Leading Mental Health Centers to Visit in Adelaide

  • Qualifications. Psychology is a profession that requires years of academic and hands-on training. We looked for centers with certified psychologists and staff with many years of experience.

  • Range of services provided. We prefer centers with more services catering to different clients and cases

  • Fairness of fees. For mental health services, it's essential to choose a center that charges just the right amount.

  • Accessibility. Finally, the center needs to be easy to visit. It's better if they provide telehealth methods too.

Pros

  • Extensive wellness programs
  • Has three branches
  • Team has wide-ranging expertise

Cons

  • Limited postgraduate professionals
  • Confusing fees explanation

Skylight Mental Health is an excellent choice for individuals and companies looking for wellness programs. Their offerings are extensive, including yoga, art, and group support sessions.

The center is accessible, as they have offices in Wayville, Christies Beach, and Elizabeth. They’ve also partnered with the local government to have programs reaching rural and native communities.

Their team has wide-ranging expertise, allowing them to handle many clients. They have a social worker, an art therapist, a psychologist, and a counselor on board.

It was also easy to contact them to book an event. They were responsive to our emails, and they explained their events’ benefits well to us.

Their website has a simple design that makes their services easy to browse. Through it, we availed of their career coaching session and found it helpful and well-organized.

A minor concern of ours, however, is with their staff’s qualifications. We’d be more assured if they had more professionals with a master’s or doctorate degree in psychology.

Another concern is we found their pricing scheme a bit hard to understand. Be sure to discuss this clearly with them so you won’t be charged unexpected fees.

Pros

  • Well-maintained facilities
  • Has 62 bedrooms available
  • Staff is well-trained
  • Handy website

Cons

  • Almost always full
  • Pricey

Ramsay Clinic Adelaide is one of the local mental health centers best equipped for handling inpatient psychiatric services. They have a 62-bed facility that is handled by a well-qualified team of psychologists and psychiatrists.

Their expertise is in handling patients suffering from addiction, anxiety, and depression. We like that they use a multidisciplinary approach that changes depending on the patient’s case.

We also appreciate the convenience of using their website. It has a handy “Find a Psychiatrist” tool, making looking for your referred psychiatrist easy.

Upon visiting their facility, we found it well-maintained and conducive for treatment. We heard positive reviews about their bedroom and therapy facilities too.

We also heard great things about their staff. Specifically, many found them warm and accommodating.

One of the clients we talked to particularly praised their great communication with clients regarding the progress of their treatment.

However, one downside of Ramsay Clinic is that it’s one of the few clinics providing inpatient treatment in Adelaide. Hence, their slots are almost always full.

Besides this, their fees are among the highest we’ve seen. You’ll have to prepare a big budget if you’ll be availing of their services.

Pros

  • Comprehensive treatments offered
  • Accessible clinic
  • Great facilities
  • Great approach to treatments

Cons

  • Slots are usually filled
  • Responds to complaints slowly

Urgent Mental Health Care Centre is the clinic to visit if you need fast assistance. They accept referrals 24/7.

Their services are comprehensive, including peer support sessions, clinical assistance, and recovery.

They have a very accessible clinic just blocks away from Hindmarsh Square. Upon visiting the clinic, we found it well-designed and highly conducive to treatments.

The clinic has many rooms for counseling, recreation, and socialization.

Their approach to treatments, which blend experiential and medical, has produced great results based on track record.

According to some of their clients, their team has a warm and professional approach. They’re great with handling people from different cultures too.

It’s just disappointing that the clinic is usually filled with clients, making it hard to book a slot with them.

We aren’t fond of how they handle online complaints either. They don’t respond fast to those sent through their website.

Pros

  • Convenient location
  • Expertise in rapid eye movement and Bowen therapy
  • Excellent with building rapport
  • Easy to book appointment

Cons

  • Doesn’t have psychiatric interventions available
  • Specialist doesn’t have formal psychological education

Adelaide Anxiety and Stress Clinic has a great location in Windsor Gardens. It’s tranquil, easy to access, and conducive for therapy sessions

The clinic is led by Pauline Masters, who specializes in treating anxiety, PTSD, and anger management issues. She has decades of experience in alternative psychological therapy, so she’s excellent if you’re looking for a non-traditional approach.

Her treatment focuses on rapid eye movement therapy, which doesn’t use any medicine. The treatment is affordable and not intrusive.

This method is great for patients suffering from PTSD. It aims to reduce the impact of stimuli associated with traumatic experiences.

We heard from her clients that she’s excellent at building rapport. Many of them had no issues going back for repeat sessions because of this.

It’s also easy to book an appointment with her via phone. She has plenty of schedules available, and she’s a professional on the phone.

That said, the clinic is not great if you need a more medicinal approach for your case. They don’t have psychiatric interventions available.

Another thing is that Pauline Masters doesn’t have extensive formal education in psychology. Her approach is alternative, which may only be beneficial for some.

Pros

  • Highly-qualified
  • Has many services
  • Accessible location
  • Expertise on Employment Assistance Program

Cons

  • High fees
  • Takes some time to respond to calls and emails

BlueSky Psychologist’s team has one of the best qualifications and experience we’ve seen. Most are either psychologists or psychiatrists with many years of hands-on work.

Their specializations include addiction treatment and general counseling. They’re required to have at least a master’s degree, and they’re continuously trained for newer treatments.

Because of their expertise, they have one of the most extensive lists of psychological services. They can accommodate both individuals and businesses needing psychological aid.

In addition, they have a very accessible location at King William St. Booking an appointment with them is easy because of their well-designed website.

Based on their track record, one of their strengths is providing Employment Assistance Programs. Their treatment program is made to provide holistic care, such as work-based mediation, trauma therapy, and satisfaction interventions.

Upon interviewing one of their clients, we were glad to hear that they had an easy experience from reception to treatment. She particularly praised Dr. Lyall because of the latter’s patience and comforting approach to treatment.

It’s just disappointing that their fees are some of the highest among mental health centers in Adelaide.

Another downside is that they take time to respond to emails and calls. This can be inconvenient for those needing immediate assistance.
