The Best Sushi Spots in North Adelaide for Timeless Japanese Flavors & Bold Twists

Sushi has become a mainstay in North Adelaide, and it’s clear this Japanese staple is here for the long haul (thanks to local Japanese restaurants!). No shocker, though, considering the area’s sushi spots can simultaneously keep it traditional while adding spins that don’t skimp on taste.

How do we know? Well, for the past months, we’ve scoured every nook and cranny of the area to find restaurants and stalls with lip-smacking sushi, from classic nigiri to funky fusion bites.

You don’t have to imagine the things our team indulged in. We’ve rolled out our umami-filled discoveries below so you can also savor what we savored!

Haru Sushi

From northadelaidevillage

Address: North Adelaide Village, 67 O’Connell St

Contact Details: 0424 926 878

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5 pm
  • Sat – 9:30 am to 5 pm
  • Sun – 10 am to 5 pm

Website

Haru Sushi might lack the rustic appeal of a traditional sushi-ya, but their daily-made, healthy, and traditionally-flavored bites more than make up for the food court setting.

Unsurprisingly, tuna sushi is the stall’s best-seller, thanks to its clean, mildly fishy flavors and buttery texture. Salmon is a close second, but it’s certainly first for those who prefer a fattier taste with the right amount of sweetness and umami.

Our go-to order, though, is octopus or tako. We love its ocean-ish essence and firm, slightly chewy meat—making it a heartier and more flavor-packed option.

Tips: If you’re new to sushi, make sure to dip it fish-side down in soy sauce to avoid overpowering the delicate flavors and making the rice fall apart. Also, go easy on wasabi, as large dabs can burn your taste buds and overwhelm the flavor.

Sato

From satojapaneserestaurant

Address: 131 Melbourne St

Contact Details: (08) 8267 3381

Operating Hours: Mon to Sat – 11:30 am to 2 pm, 6 pm to 9 pm

Facebook

Sato’s cozy Horigotatsu-inspired dining, complete with low tables and recessed floors, sets an appealing, intimate mood. But let’s face it, it’s their time-honored and creative sushi that brings in the patrons and revenue.

On our last visit, we cleaned off plates filled with their iconic chicken teriyaki sushi. The glazed rolls are savory and sweet, with melt-in-your-mouth morsels giving off a balanced fusion of caramelized and smoky meat.

In addition, we found inventive picks. like avocado and tuna mixed with smoked salmon or cucumber. Still, they all paled in comparison to the tempura sushi with savory seafood atop soft rice.

Tip: Based on our experience, early afternoon is the best time to dine at Sato. This period is their least hectic.

Jinsan Sushi Express

From jinsansushiexpress_prospect

Address: 5/94-98 Prospect Rd

Contact Details: (08) 7073 1400

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 12 pm to 8 pm
  • Fri – 12 pm to 9 pm
  • Sat – 11:30 am to 9 pm
  • Sun – 11:30 am to 8 pm

Website

With more than 30 choices, Jinsan Sushi Express hit us with a tasty conundrum—deciding which delicious sushi to devour first.

Fortunately, we made the right move by starting with the nigiri, hand-formed sushi with fresh seafood like salmon, tuna, and eel. Following this up with rolls was a no-brainer, especially since the resto makes knockout vinegared rice with prawn and spicy salmon.

We couldn’t resist trying their aburi, too, which impressed us with its lightly seared salmon and scallop toppings. Specialty rolls are also on the menu, but they come with a higher price tag, with luxurious ingredients like Wagyu beef and lobster.

Tip: From winter sales to new flavors, Jinshan Sushi Express announces game-changing info on their Instagram. Check it out to stay updated.

Miyabi Sushi

From miyabisushi.sa

Address: 44/400 Churchill Rd, Kilburn

Contact Details: 0439 998 238

Operating Hours: Daily – 11 am to 9 pm

Website

Don’t let Miyabi Sushi’s sleek modern decor trick you—their sushi on a train is as Japanese as it gets. If you think we’re capping, their selection of aburi, nigiri, vegetarian, and sushi rolls will change your mind.

Our main recommendation is the aburi salmon, prawn, and kingfish—all ideal for foodies who prefer smoky undertones and natural flavors. If these aren’t what your palate desires, go for something mild and clean, like the tuna-based rolls or scallop nigiri.

Vegetarians have several options, too, from cucumber avocado rolls to cucumber maki. The must-try, however, is the earthy and crunchy pumpkin tempura.

Tip: If driving to Kilburn doesn’t thrill you at all, ordering online is the better move. Their takeaway sushi menu isn’t different from their dine-in selection.

NIJUMARU North Park

From nijumaru.adl and nijumaru.northpark

Address: Northpark Shopping Centre, Shop 50/264 Main N Rd, Prospect

Contact Details: 0478 116 116

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 5 pm to 9 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Sun – 12 pm to 2:30 pm, 5 pm to 9 pm

Website

Whether you opt for their à la carte selection or go all out with the buffet experience, NIJUMARU’s sushi won’t leave you with a sad face or a sadder stomach. We tried both, and there’s no dip in the quality and flavor.

The standouts include spicy salmon nigiri, cooked tuna rolls, aburi scallops, and wagyu beef nigiri. More robust options like teriyaki chicken and soft-shell crab rolls also got our attention.

What really converted us into patrons, though, is the spicy prawn nigiri. The addition of chili powder beautifully contrasts with the prawns’ sweetness and the rice’s delicate tanginess—resulting in a bite that bursts with complex flavors.

Tip: Got a kid who’s under 4? They can enjoy the buffet here for free!

Han’s Sushi

From hanssushisa

Address: Shop 7/50-52 O G Rd, Klemzig

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Wed – 10 am to 4 pm
  • Thu to Fri – 10 am to 8 pm

Facebook

Han’s Sushi keeps it simple, and that’s a recipe for success, as shown by their stellar reviews. A visit will show you why they’re loved, with a menu that hits the perfect combo of tradition and creativity.

Topping the list is the haunt’s cooked tuna salad, an umami-rich and creamy meal that pairs well with sushi rice. The teriyaki chicken is a staple, too, particularly for those who prefer sharper flavors.

If meat isn’t on your mind, you should go for the avocado cucumber. It’s creamy, satisfying, and revitalizing, with completely natural ingredients.

Tip: If you’re planning to order their famous party platter sushi, message them at least one day in advance. You can use Han’s Sushi’s Facebook, Instagram, or contact number above to do so.

Kimura Sushi

From kimura___sushi

Address: Lightsview Village Shopping Center, Shop 3/163-169 Fosters Rd, Lightsview

Contact Details: 0415 477 819

Operating Hours: Daily – 11 am to 9 pm

Website

The blend of classic techniques, contemporary flair, and premium ingredients makes Kimura Sushi a top pick for sushi lovers.

We also have to mention their extensive menu. The sushi roll selection alone has around 20 options, such as cooked tuna, crispy prawn, spicy soft-shell crab, and even smoked salmon cream roll.

However, it’s Kimura’s aburi nigiri sushi that tops the charts. Sure, these picks are more expensive, but you’re assured to get bangers like A-grade Wagyu beef and kingfish as toppings.

Tip: Kimura Sushi can get too crowded at night. Dining from around 1 pm to 5 pm is the way to go, particularly if you’re gunning for a calmer vibe.

Sushi Hiru

From northadelaidevillage

Address: North Adelaide Village, Shop 11/81 O’Connell St

Contact Details: 0481 958 616

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Wed – 11:30 am to 8:30 pm
  • Thu to Sat -11 am to 9 pm
  • Sun – 11 am to 8:30 pm

Website

We can’t get enough of Sushi Hiru’s train. It’s one of the most affordable in Adelaide, all while boasting a diverse menu with drool-worthy choices.

Typically, we go ham on their rolls, especially the cooked tuna, teriyaki chicken, and salmon avocado variants. Our last trip, however, was spiced with unique picks, including the butter salmon rose and fish roe ship—which we both loved for their buttery and fresh profile.

To cap off our meal, we indulged in platters of aburi kingfish teriyaki and salmon. Known for their charred sweetness, these premium picks definitely lived up to their hype as soon as we bit in.

Tip: If you plan to visit after 5 pm, you must book to secure your seat. Making reservations is a must around this period. You can also take advantage of their loyalty program to score perks like discounts and coupons!
