Top Chocolate Shops in Adelaide Even Willy Wonka Would Envy

Finding a chocolate hater in our team is like spotting a penguin in the Sahara desert. You can try, but you’ll fail.

Every one of us here is cray-cray for chocolatey pleasure, and Adelaide’s best chocolate shops are huge reasons why.

From Haigh’s Chocolates to Koko Black, our city’s chocolate joints offer a whirlwind of cocoa bliss, and we rounded the top ones to make your life a little bit sweeter.

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 9:30 am to 6 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 9 am to 5 pm

Website

Since 1915, Haigh’s Chocolates has proven time and again that they know their cocoa.

Found in the Victorian-inspired Adelaide Arcade, this Adelaide chocolatier giant serves up everything from truffles and peppermint to speckles and fruit-flavored ones, each more indulgent than the last.

For us though, “The Favorites” collection is the ultimate way to savor Haigh’s iconic treats. This lineup of all-time faves covers all the bases and types Adelaideans have enjoyed for ages, like berry chocs, scorched almonds, pastilles, and more.

Tip: Giving someone a box of chocolates is as timeless as quoting Forrest Gump’s iconic “Life is like a box of chocolates” line. Check out Haigh’s gift ideas to make the gesture more special.

Charlesworth Nuts

  • Sun – 10 am to 5 pm

Website

Nuts and chocolate are a match made in heaven, and Charlesworth Nuts is one of the best “matchmakers” in town.

Chocolates here are nuts, no pun intended, both in terms of flavor and ingredients. A few of their bangers include macadamia, roasted almonds, dark walnut, and chocolate cashews.

However, nothing comes close to the rocky road clusters. We had this the last time we visited Charlesworth Nuts, and its mix of marshmallow pieces, sweet glacé cherries, and roasted peanuts satisfied us like hot chocolate on a Christmas morning.

Tip: You can literally sweeten the deal by giving a client or partner chocolate boxes. Ensure this outcome by scoring Charlesworth Nuts’ corporate gifts.

Just Bliss Chocolates

Swing by, and your jaw might drop with their lineup of chocolate pralines, truffles, rocky road, and more. Each piece is a little work of art, with details and colors that belong in a museum.

Their chocolatiers think outside the chocolate box in terms of flavors too. They have unique variants you might not find elsewhere, like whisky caramel, mango chili lime, and milk gin plus tonic.

Tip: If you’re craving “just bliss” and not Gawler Place’s bustling energy, consider ordering online.

Maya’s Fine Chocolates is one of our go-to chill spots. Their metro store has everything a chocolate aficionado needs, from a laid-back atmosphere to a treasure trove of flavors.

Speaking of flavors, they have picks like orange zest, raspberry, and even chocolates with chili. Moreover, they have a treat for everyone, including those with dietary restrictions—gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, you name it.

As for us, we always go with the plum walnut, which we had on our recent trip here. Our team loves its rich chocolate exterior, satisfying toasted walnuts, and juicy ripe plum—a blend that’s simultaneously sweet, earthy, and utterly diet-breaking.

Tip: Seasonal chocolates make each season or holiday better. Maya’s Fine Chocolate has a lot of them, so check their Facebook page above for announcements.

Bracegirdle’s might be the gold standard when it comes to chocolatiers, with a trophy cabinet full of awards to back it up.

Their menu is a chocolate lover’s dream, featuring classic bars and blocks to eccentric novelty treats. The winner for us though, is the decadent dark Daintree chocolate, popping with intensely rich cocoa notes balanced by the tartness of native plum.

We also tried their caramel BG bar, where velvety caramel meets rich chocolate. This one is the ideal pick for chocolate enjoyers who prefer a classic flavor profile.

Tip: Why settle for just purchasing chocolates when you can earn points along the way? Do this by joining Bracegirdle’s loyalty program!

Just this past week, we indulged in their Mudslide, a luscious Belgian chocolate cake jazzed with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and strawberries.

For the drink, our team opted with Choc Choc and O’Rio. The former brims with Tim Tams, M&Ms, and chocolate ice cream, while the latter is a mishmash of cookies & cream, ice cream, and whipped cream.

Tip: University students can enjoy Chocolatree’s 25% discount by visiting on Wednesday nights from 6 pm to 10 pm. Simply show your valid student ID to complement your dreaded thesis work with a discounted sweet treat.
