The 5 Best Antique Dealers in Adelaide

Industry experience. Antique dealers should have many years of experience so that we can be sure that they’ve handled different types of pieces.

Communication. We prefer antique dealers who aren’t pushy and those that can explain the history and value of their pieces well.

Fairness of fees. The best antique dealers should offer reasonable service rates and prices for their pieces.

Location. It’s better if their shop is accessible and well-decorated and has well-maintained facilities.

Pros

  • Has been in the business for more than 15 years
  • Good variety in items
  • Specializes in toy collections
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Limited antique items
  • Pricey

Sueclays Antiques and Vintage Decor has been in the business for more than 15 years. They’re a solid choice because of the wide variety of items they sell.

These include classical antiques, collectibles, glassware, and more. Their team is very accommodating to guests and highly informative.

Their specialty is toy collections, and they have one of the most extensive LEGO displays we’ve seen. It spans many decades and franchises.

In addition, they have one of the best-designed shops we’ve seen. Their pieces are displayed in a way where their highlight features are properly seen.

Their location on Unley Street is very accessible and near many public transportation spots.

However, one of the downsides with them is that most of their items are vintage. Items aged 100 years or older are limited here.

Aside from this, their fees are pricey compared to other antique stores in the area.

Pros

  • Has many dealers under them
  • Wide catalog
  • Great with communicating with sellers
  • Broad space

Cons

  • Limited opening hours
  • Items need to be displayed more orderly

Noddys has one of the broadest collections we’ve seen. They’ve got most antiques covered, including toys, kitchenalia, metalware, books, and more.

It’s made possible by having over 25 dealers under them. It’s why they can cater to the different tastes and preferences of clients.

In addition, they’re great at communicating in case you’ll sell items. Their process is straightforward and easy to understand for new sellers.

They have one of the wides spaces we’ve seen, at 220 square meters. We like how the items are sorted into vintage and antique pieces for clients’ convenience too.

You’ll also like how they update their catalog fast. There’s always something to see for your weekly visit.

That said, one downside we’ve seen is that they have limited opening hours. They’re closed for more than half of the week, from Monday to Thursday.

Aside from this, their catalog is a bit all over the place. We would like it if they present the items in a more organized manner.

Pros

  • Good with communicating with clients
  • Well-designed website
  • Organized and clean shop
  • Most items are in excellent condition

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Small collection

Schoopers Antiques and Collectibles is a great choice because of how well they communicate with regular buyers. They’re highly responsive through email, which is why it’s easy to establish a good working relationship with them.

Speaking of online interactions, it’s easy to buy items from them through their website. The digital shop is easy to use for browsing and ordering items.

It’s one of the most organized and clean antique shops in Adelaide. It’s easy to browse through their catalog because of this.

One thing we especially like is how most of their items are in excellent condition. From kitchenware to toys, they make sure to pick only the highest quality.

They have a great variety of items offered. There’s something for almost any category of object or time period.

Given this, we’re just a bit disappointed with the price of their antiques, as it’s on the higher end.

Aside from this, their collection is a bit smaller compared to other antique dealers in Adelaide. It’s because of their strict specifications for the items they sell.

Pros

  • Has a large collection
  • Good for furniture and design pieces
  • Good with explaining the pieces
  • Has been in the business for more than 25 years

Cons

  • 30 minutes from Adelaide CBD
  • Website is a bit disorganized

Emprades Vintage + Design has a very large collection that checks the box for almost all categories, including jewelry, lighting, ceramics, and more.

They’re an especially great choice if you need home furniture and design. Many of their pieces for this are in excellent condition and come with varying design inspirations.

We also like the regular blog posts they have on their website which provide comprehensive information about the pieces they offer. The items are well-photographed and described in full detail.

You’ll also feel the experience of their owners with how they describe the pieces. They’re great at explaining the history and design of their items.

They’ve been in the business for more than 25 years. It’s why they’re a highly trusted name for antique deals in Adelaide.

If you’re visiting them, we just have a couple of notes for you to consider.

First, their location is about 30 minutes from Adelaide CBD. This makes them a bit inconvenient to visit for those without a car.

Aside from this, we found the design of the catalog on their website a bit disorganized. Browsing through this is time-consuming.

Pros

  • Has been established since 1994
  • Highly experienced shop owner
  • Accessible location
  • Great communication with clients

Cons

  • Telephone lines are unresponsive
  • Shop is a bit disorganized

Philicia Antiques & Collectables PTY LTD has been established since 1994. The owner has a remarkable knowledge of art history, and he even acts as a consultant for the Art Gallery of South Australia.

His deep anthropological and historical knowledge lends itself well to the items that he finds. Most are rare finds, and he takes in time to guide clients in knowing the value and history of each.

He’s active on eBay where his collection is regularly sought-after by buyers. His international presence is a great sign of the novelty and quality of his collection.

In addition, the shop’s location on Goodwood Road makes it easy to visit for many. It’s just a few blocks away from the Unley Park train station.

The staff makes sure to make clients’ visits comfortable and guided while they visit. This seen is especially in how they give advice on the packaging and the handling of the bought items.

If there’s a downside to them, one is that some clients complained that their telephone lines were unresponsive to their inquiries.

Aside from this, their shop is a bit disorganized due to their large catalog of items. This can make sorting through the antiques a bit more time-consuming.
