The Best Chinese Restaurants in North Adelaide We Think Are Soy-sational

Woking your way to flavor-town is as simple as booking a taxi to North Adelaide. This food hotbed offers both traditional Chinese fare alongside quirky Aussie-inspired dishes that’ll have you saying, “Why did I stick with cup noodles?”

We spent the last few months doing “research” (a.k.a. dim sum and chow mein binges), searching for the best Chinese joints in town.

We drop the names of these must-visit spots below and even toss in some slick tips to keep your restaurant-hopping escapade as fire as a Szechuan hot pot on a rainy day.

Gin Long Canteen

From ginlongcanteen

Address: 42 O’Connell St
Contact Details: (08) 7120 2897
Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 5:30 pm to 9 pm
  • Fri – 12 to 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm to 10 pm

Website

Though best known for its Southeast Asian staples, Gin Long Canteen is still an undeniable must-hit eatery for Chinese dishes. The chop suey is a standout—think stir-fried crisp veggies and tender bok choy glistening in a savory soy and oyster sauce glaze.

If we’re leaning toward something meaty with a side of Chinese mustard greens, the slow-braised pork is the dish we down. With its layers of spice-infused fat and meat, this heavyweight is a personal guilty pleasure we never want to share.

Tip: Let Gin Long Canteen bring Chinese goodness to wherever you are by hiring them as your next event caterer.

Lucky Dumpling and Noodle

  • Sun – 11 am to 2:30 pm, 5 pm to 9 pm

Facebook

When your name is Lucky Dumpling and Noodle, serving up bad-tasting dumplings and noodles is simply not an option. Luckily, this place delivers, particularly with their prawn dumpling—a delightful blend of semi-sweet and spicy seafood we always pair with beer.

On the noodle front, their honey char siu is what hooked our team, thanks to its caramelized char siu pork intertwined among perfectly cooked noodles. A savory sauce connects the flavors, while crispy fried wontons throw in a welcome crunch.

Tip: Holidays mean special offerings here. When one is approaching, check their Instagram for announcements.

Saigon Gate North Adelaide

Address: 141 O’Connell St
Contact Details: (08) 7071 9282
Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Fri to Sat – Mon to Thu – 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, 5 pm to 10 pm
  • Sun – 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm

Facebook

Saigon Gate may not scream “Chinese,” but their fried rice is a love letter to something you’d taste in Beijing. Each spoonful has rice drenched in soy sauce, stir-fried with tender diced chicken, sweet onions, and carrots, making it a hearty and umami-rich bowl.

We believe sweet and sour pork is the perfect pair for that fried rice. Its battered pork filets are knockouts, but what truly ups this dish, for us, is the mix of capsicum, pineapple, and onions, all covered in a sweet and sour plum sauce that beautifully contrasts the salty meat.

Tip: Saigon Gate can get hectic in the morning and noon. If you want a bit of solitude, swing by around 1 pm to 2 pm.

Chef Dong

From annemaree.c

Address: 3/103 Payneham Rd, St Peters
Contact Details: (08) 8362 8878
Operating Hours: Tue, Thu to Sun – 11 am to 9:30 pm
Website

If you’re curious about why Peking duck is the talk of the town, Chef Dong’s version will clear it up. Bold and caramelized, this Beijing classic is packed with sweet, smoky richness, wrapped around tender meat with just the right gamey kick.

For us, though, it’s their Cantonese-style steak that should top your “to-eat” list. Our team just loves this savory powerhouse, combining A-tier meat with garlic, caramelized onions, peppers, and a luscious soy-based glaze.

Park Lok Chinese Restaurant

From parklok.au

Address: 53 O’Connell St
Contact Details: (08) 7111 5516
Operating Hours: Daily – 5 pm to 9:30 pm
Website

Park Lok is one of our go-tos whenever we crave traditional Cantonese fare. Naturally, we always go for their chu chow tender duck—a braised masterpiece that soaks up the full-bodied flavors of soy sauce, star anise, and five-spice.

The dish’s taste is mildly sweet with a spicy jolt. No piece is also bland, as the thick sauce clings to the meat, further accenting the duck’s natural fattiness.

Tip: Park Lok is most enjoyable in the late hours when the restaurant’s cozy atmosphere truly comes to life.

Rosemont Hall

From rosemonthall

Address: 106 Prospect Rd
Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 11:30 am to 3 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 5 pm to 10 pm

Website

Rosemont Hall’s fare screams bite-sized perfection. Their Peking duck pancakes are a prime example, featuring crispy duck with thinly sliced cucumber and leek, which we enjoyed more by adding hoisin sauce.

We absolutely couldn’t skip their chicken and chive dumplings, too. Pan-fried to perfection, these pint-sized bangers wowed us with their fragrant aroma, crispy bottoms, and soft tops that hide a herby and gamey filling.

Tip: You can bring cake here, as long as you pay the $3 corkage fee per person.

Noodle Box

From noodleboxau

Address: North Park Shopping Center, 264 Main N Rd
Contact Details: (08) 8342 0094
Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Wed – 11 am to 9 pm
  • Thu to Say – 11 am to 9:30 pm
  • Sun – 11 am to 9 pm

Website

Noodle Box is our favorite source of cooked-to-order Chinese food in North Adelaide, and their spicy soy fried rice is one of the main reasons why. Char siu pork and shrimp crown this bowl, and the greens, soy sauce, and chili paste give it gourmet levels of flavor.

Their Chinese honey soy noodle is also drool-worthy, whether you’re a chicken or beef fan. We usually devour this when we need balance—sweet, savory, tender meat, and crisp bok choy with carrots—you get the picture.

Tip: Download Noodle Box’s rewards app to get birthday vouchers, discounts, and more perks.

Cam Wah Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant

From dinar.pene

Address: 33 Kilkenny Rd, Woodville Park
Contact Details: (08) 8445 2617
Operating Hours: Tue to Sun – 9 am to 3 pm

Cam Wah’s duck noodle soup is on our minds 24/7. Slow-simmered, herby, and luxuriously meaty, this no-frills, comfort food got us through tough times, when even 5-star steaks couldn’t cut it.

But what’s duck noodle soup without youtiao? This Chinese donut has neutral flavors, a chewy twist, and a crisp texture that makes it an ideal companion for dipping into the comforting base.

Tip: You can drive to this spot since the restaurant offers parking.

Dumpling Go Go

From justherefor_the_food

Address: 225 Main N Rd, Sefton Park
Contact Details: 0402 237 522
Operating Hours:

  • Mon – 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Tue to Thu – 11 am to 8:30 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 11 am to 9 pm
  • Sun – 11 am to 8:30 pm

Website

Dumpling Go Go might not be where we’d our in-laws for dinner, but their grub certainly hit the spot. For instance, their chicken and prawn dumplings blew us away with their seasoned filling, oozing with notes of ginger, garlic, and the meats’ natural essence.

To top it off, there’s a vegetarian spring roll option for those sticking to plants. They’re not as savory as the dumplings, but the shredded carrots, bean sprouts, and cabbage still teem with an umami profile.

Tip: Pre-order online if you can’t wait for the restaurant to open.

Greenacres Chinese Takeaway

From qinqin0711

Address: 4/76 Muller Rd
Contact Details: (08) 8367 8888
Operating Hours: Tue to Sun – 4:30 pm to 9 pm
Facebook

No debate here: Greenacres Chinese Takeaway’s spare ribs are the reason we keep coming back.

The said dish is pure Cantonese magic, with well-seasoned, braised meat that’s covered in a sticky sauce. It’s also super fatty, which could be a turn-off to some, but the melt-off-the-bone quality and kicky character of the pork is chef’s kiss.

Tip: You can adjust the heat level. Feel free to ask for your dish to be made with extra chili or Szechuan peppercorns.

Prince Room Restaurant

From prince_room_chinese_restaurant

Address: 509 Lower North East Rd, Campbelltown

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 11:30 am to 2 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Fri – 11:30 am to 2 pm, 5 pm to 10:30 pm
  • Sat – 11:30 am to 3 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Sun – 5 pm to 9:30 pm

Facebook

Prince Room Restaurant definitely knows how to set the mood with its stunning interior, featuring calming, nature-centered artwork, and detailed Chinese lanterns. Yet it’s still their heavy-hitting flavors that make our foodies flock.

We’re specifically talking about the resto’s timeless stir-fry beef, which we’d describe as nutty, a bit bitter, and tangy. The strips pop with sweet hints, too, though the level isn’t as strong as the one you’d savor in something like sweet and sour pork.

Tip: Dial their digits above if you’re looking for a spacious, clean, and homely birthday venue.

Yum Sing Express Collinswood

From kirsty3636

Address: Collinswood Shopping Center, 3/31 North East Road
Contact Details: (08) 8344 8888
Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 11:30 am to 8:30 pm
  • Sat – 12 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Sun – 4 pm to 8 pm

Website

Speaking of sweet and sour pork, Yum Sing Express has a version so delicious that it has become one of our trusted diet-busters.

Can you blame us, though? The dish’s fruity accents are refreshing, while the battered pork’s savory undertones connect well with the bright tastes.

Tip: You can order online, either via Uber Eats or Menulog.
