Pros
- Offers LASIK, PRK, SMILE, and SMILE Pro
- Experienced doctors
- On-street parking and nearby public car parks
- Accessible location
- Over 25 years in business
- ISO 9001 accredited
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Services are limited to laser eye surgery
Laser Vision SA has been providing excellent laser eye surgery results since 1996.
With eye specialists and staff members boasting 20 years of experience, it’s easy to understand why many Adelaide folks trust this clinic with their eyes.
The clinic offers four types of laser eye surgery: LASIK, PRK, SMILE, and SMILE Pro.
Laser Vision SA is the first clinic in Adelaide to perform all-laser LASIK. It has successfully done the same procedure repeatedly, so patients can be assured that they know what they’re doing.
If you’re worried about flap creation in LASIK, the clinic also offers SMILE and SMILE Pro treatments, which are less invasive and don’t involve flap creation.
Just note that the healing time for SMILE and SMILE Pro is longer than that of LASIK.
The clinic also offers the first treatment available to correct vision, PRK.
If you’re not fully aware of the difference between these laser eye surgeries, you don’t have to worry, as the eye specialists in Laser Vision will diagnose your eye problem and recommend the best possible solution.
We also really like that the clinic is ISO 9001-certified, which means the clinic has met the requirements of the ISO with regard to quality management.
This ISO certification guarantees patients that Laser Vision SA can consistently provide service that meets the patient’s and the regulatory board’s requirements.
It’s just a pity that the clinic’s services are limited. As the name suggests, the clinic specialises in laser eye surgery and mainly deals with vision correction surgery.
If you’re looking for an eye treatment that doesn’t involve laser, this isn’t the best place for you.
They are also closed on weekends, so if you want to visit, make sure to do it on a weekday.

Pros
- Largest private provider of ophthalmic care in Australia
- Wide range of services
- Experienced doctors
- Doctors are available in other locations
- Accessible location
Cons
- Closed on Sundays
- Inconsistent results
Vision Eye Institute North Adelaide is the largest private ophthalmic care provider in Australia, so it’s not surprising that it’s a part of this list.
The clinic is just minutes from CBD, so it won’t be hard to find. It’s also accessible through public transportation, as it’s near the bus stop on Melbourne Street.
Vision Eye Institute North Adelaide employs experienced eye specialists with over 10 years of experience to ensure that patients get the best eye care possible.
The clinic also offers a wide range of services, like laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, and more. They are qualified and able to cater to many patients with different needs.
We also really like that the clinic’s eye specialists are available in other locations. This means that even if the North Adelaide clinic is closed, patients can go to other branches to meet their doctors.
We’re just slightly disappointed at some reports saying they didn’t get the results they hoped for. Some patients had to return to the clinic for another cosmetic surgery to fix the scars left by the initial surgery.
It’s also a bit of a disadvantage for the clinic to be closed on Sundays, as there are patients who are only available during these days.

Pros
- Offers paediatric ophthalmology services
- Wide range of services
- Doctor is available in 3 other clinics
- Over 10 years of experience
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Not gentle enough with children
Dr Swati Sinkar is a well-known general and paediatric eye specialist in Adelaide. Over the course of 10 years, she has treated several patients from different age groups and has built a strong reputation in the city.
Aside from her private clinic, Dr Sinkar also works as an eye specialist in other clinics, namely: Kingswood Eye Centre, Northern Eye Specialists, and Mount Gambier Eye Specialists.
What we like about Dr Sinkar are her knowledge and professionalism. She carefully diagnoses patients and recommends the best treatment plan possible.
We like how she explains the diagnosis in detail and how it should be approached with the current treatments available.
We also like how flexible she is with her services. She provides a wide range of ophthalmology services for adults and children across Adelaide, including cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, eyelid malposition, glaucoma and squint surgery.
We just hope that she’ll be more gentle when interacting with children, as they tend to get easily scared. Some former patients were disappointed by her ability to communicate with children.
It’s also a pity that her clinic is closed on weekends, limiting the number of patients she can check.

Pros
- Experienced doctors
- Offers a wide range of services
- Professional staff
- Consistent excellent results
Cons
- Long wait times
- Closed on weekends
For 30 years, Adelaide Eye & Laser Centre has been providing eye treatments. The clinic started in the Ashford Community Hospital campus, where Dr Peter Ingham introduced laser refractive surgery to South Australia.
Years later, the clinic moved to Eastwood and was the first accredited facility of its kind in South Australia.
The clinic specialises in cataract and refractive surgery but also offers other ophthalmic treatments like corneal surgery.
What we like about this clinic are its two experienced eye specialists. The clinic’s medical director, Dr Ingham, has 35 years of experience, while Dr Supramaniam has almost 20 years of experience.
On top of that, Dr Supramaniam has performed over 10,000 eye surgeries.
These experiences are reflected in the consistently excellent results patients receive from the clinic. Former patients have raved about how much AE&LC helped them with their eye problems.
The only drawback to them would be the long wait times that patients endure before receiving treatment. Even with appointments, patients still have to wait an hour or more to get a consultation because of how busy the clinic is.
They’re also closed on weekends, so they’re almost always packed with patients during their operating hours.
5. Kingswood Eye Centre

Operating Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Cost | 4/5 |
Pros
- Wide range of services
- Attentive and experienced doctors
- Free parking
- Doctors are available in the 5 other clinics
- A huge pool of doctors
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Expensive rates
Kingswood Eye Centre offers the most extensive range of services among the Adelaide eye specialist clinics on this list.
Kingswood’s services range from general ophthalmology treatments to retinal diseases like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
This is possible because of its huge pool of doctors with different subspecialties in ophthalmology.
The Glen Osmond branch alone has six eye specialists caring for the patients and four allied ophthalmic health practitioners.
Aside from this, eye specialists are also available in other branches of the clinic and other hospitals like Vista Day Surgery, Stirling Hospital, and more.
We also appreciate how attentive the eye specialists and the rest of the team are in Kingswood. They put your comfort at the top of their priority list and ensure you’re comfortable before proceeding with the treatment.
The clinic, however, charges a little more than others, making other patients think twice before coming in for a consultation.
If cost isn’t that much of a concern for you, Kingswood Eye Centre is a wise choice to consider when looking for an eye specialist.
Just note that they’re closed on weekends and won’t be able to accommodate you if you’re only free during those days.
