Top 5 Counselling Services in Adelaide

How We Picked

Qualifications – Counselling services can’t be done by just anyone. Hence, we’ve only chosen counsellors with qualifications like training in cognitive behavioural therapy, a bachelor’s in applied social science for counselling or psychotherapy, or a bachelor’s in psychology.
Services – We picked counsellors that offer a wide range of counselling services and provide treatment for different kinds of conditions.
Environment – We selected counselling centres with a clean, calming, and positive environment to ensure that clients feel comfortable during the sessions.
Availability – We prefer counselling centres that provide online counselling sessions, are located in an accessible location, and have long operating hours.

Pros

  • Wide range of counselling services
  • A huge pool of counsellors
  • Counsellors are highly qualified
  • Clean environment

Cons

  • Responds to queries quite slow
  • Closed on weekends

Conveniently located in King William Street, BlueSky Psychology is one of the most reputable counselling centres in Adelaide.

The centre offers a wide range of counselling services, including relationship counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychological assessment, and so much more.

What we love about this counselling service centre is its huge pool of highly qualified counsellors. They have provisional and registered psychologists who have years and years of experience to help them deal with a variety of people.

Because of their huge pool of psychologists, they’re able to deal with a wide range of conditions like anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, and addiction.

In addition to that, we think having a huge pool of counsellors gives clients a wider range of options for their counselling methods.

One counsellor might not match their personality and needs, but having a lot of psychologists make it easier to find the one most suitable for them.

We also love how clean and calming the environment is in the clinic. They mostly use white and blue paint for their walls, which adds greatly to the relaxing and calming atmosphere during sessions.

We’re just a bit disappointed that they sometimes respond to queries late, making it hard for clients to book a session. While this isn’t the norm in the centre, we still wish it doesn’t happen.

It’s also a pity that it’s closed during weekends because most clients can only make time during those days.

Pros

  • Offers online counselling
  • Offers walking therapy
  • Highly qualified and empathetic counsellor
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Only one counsellor
  • Closed on Monday and Sunday

Dale Hicks holds some really impressive qualifications, and it’s easy to understand why he’s able to help many of his clients.

He has a master’s degree in psychotherapy and counselling, a bachelor’s in psychological science, various certificates that help in his counselling services and is a registered Level 2 member of the Australian Counselling Association.

However, more than just his qualifications, it’s his empathy that pushed us to put him on this list. He provides clients with a warm and relaxing atmosphere to make them more comfortable during the session.

He’s also very genuine during sessions. Many of his clients have noted that they never felt judged while dealing with him.

However, no matter how qualified and empathetic he is, it’s not guaranteed that his treatment will be suitable for everyone. So, it’s a pity that it’s just him providing counselling in his clinic.

The clinic is also closed on Mondays and Sundays, which further limits his ability to accommodate everyone.

On the bright side, though, he offers a wide range of counselling methods, so he can still provide service to quite a large number of clients.

He offers face-to-face counselling and online counselling, depending on what suits you better. He can also do email therapy, which is great for those who find it hard to express their worries or feel uncomfortable meeting someone.

Clients also praise his peripatetic or walking therapy. The fresh air from the beaches or Botanic Gardens that they visit during treatment helps reduce stress and symptoms, so many clients like it.

Pros

  • Over 40 years of experience
  • Qualified and professional counsellor
  • Allows bulk billing
  • Special arrangements for home counselling can be made

Cons

  • Only one counsellor
  • Closed on Sunday

Wellness & Health Psychology has been providing Adelaideans with professional counselling services since 2007 under the leadership of Dr Keyvan Abak.

With over 40 years of experience in counselling, it’s not surprising how many people are ready to vouch for Dr Abak’s capabilities. He has helped hundreds of patients go through the hardest part of their lives and is continuing to help those in need.

However, since the clinic only has Dr Abak as a counsellor, they can only accept a limited number of clients.

Our favourite thing about this counselling service centre is they offer bulk billing, which is very beneficial for patients who are on a budget.

In addition to that, they also have concession rates, making their treatment more accessible to everyone.

We also love that they allow home visits for clients who can’t go to the clinic. Just contact them to make prior arrangements if you know someone who needs to get their counselling at home.

The clinic is closed on Sundays, so you will have to make time during weekdays and Saturdays if you want to make an appointment.

Pros

  • Qualified and professional counsellor
  • Relatively more affordable rates
  • Offers Zoom counselling sessions
  • Calming and positive environment

Cons

  • Only one counsellor
  • Closed on Sunday

After starting Inspire Change Counselling in 2014, Megan Thomas has relentlessly pursued her vision of assisting others in learning more about themselves.

Megan has a diploma in Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling), a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology), a graduate certificate in cognitive behaviour therapy, a level 2 training in couples therapy from Gottman Institute, and training in EMDR.

Her qualification alone speaks for her credibility and ability to provide clients with helpful counselling sessions. She has enough knowledge to know how to deal with different clients with different traumas and needs.

What we love about Inspire Change is how calming and positive the environment is during sessions.

Megan’s no-judgment approach makes clients feel comfortable sharing some of their most painful thoughts, and the fact that she’s actively listening to them makes them feel heard.

While her approach worked for some, it’s not guaranteed that it will also work for you, however. Different people just need different kinds of treatment.

We also love that her rates are reasonable and not that expensive. Marriage counselling costs $130 per session, while an in-person consult costs $110 per 50-minute session,

She also offers concession rates of $80 per session.

The only downside is the clinic is closed on Sundays and closes early every Saturday, limiting its availability to clients.

Fortunately, Megan offers online counselling, so you can just take a short break from work and do your counselling at home or at your office.

Pros

  • Offers other modes of counselling
  • Long operating hours
  • Five qualified counsellors
  • Wide range of counselling services

Cons

  • Located outside of Adelaide City
  • Office can be easily missed

Adelaide Counselling Practice is another counselling centre in South Australia that provides top-quality and effective counselling services to its clients. It has helped over a thousand clients since its beginning in 2007 and is looking to help more.

The practice has five qualified counsellors who are registered therapists and psychotherapists.

Their years of experience and knowledge allow them to provide treatment in all aspects of relationship counselling, individual counselling, and family therapy.

What we love about this counselling centre is how available they are to clients. They are open 12 hours daily, allowing them to provide service most times of the week and to accommodate a wider range of clients.

They also offer online counselling, so clients can still attend their sessions even if they’re busy at work or are out of the country.

Clients who also can’t go out of their homes because of illness or old age can also still receive treatments from the centre, as they accept in-home appointments.

The only downside would be the location of the centre. While it’s not far from Adelaide, going outside of the city can still be inconvenient to clients.

In addition to that, the centre doesn’t have large signage that’s easy to spot for first-time goers, making it possible for them to miss it.
