The 5 Best Craft Shops in Adelaide for Your Creative Needs

  • Supply quality and variety. The shop’s supplies should be of good quality and variety suitable for different crafting projects.
  • Staff professionalism. The staff should always be ready to assist shoppers courteously.
  • Value for money. The crafting items they sell must be priced reasonably. Bonus points are also given to those with good bundle deals.
  • Accessibility. The crafting shop should be easy to visit. It’s also better if they have an online platform for convenience.

In a world that’s always rushing, I often crave a moment to be still and let my creative juices flow freely. That’s why I’ve grown to love arts and crafts!

From paper flowers to crocheting, I’ve explored it all! But let’s just say my wallet isn’t exactly jumping for joy at the thought of funding my creative escapades, as crafting can be expensive if you don’t research ahead.

It’s why I extended my craftiness to looking for the best craft supply shops in Adelaide. If you’re looking for affordable amazing materials, check out my list below.

Pros

  • Broad range of art products, especially easels, craft papers, and canvasses
  • 27 branches across Australia
  • Helpful staff

Cons

  • Doesn’t have free parking
  • Pricey

The first shop I thought of when I started crafting was Eckersley, and it did not disappoint. It has a broad range of art products available, especially easels, craft papers, and canvasses.

The branch in Adelaide is part of a 27-branch franchise that spans across the country. It’s easy to see how they’ve grown big since 1965 given their large catalog.

I was also pleased with how the staff guided me when I asked for recommendations for a paper-mâché project I had in mind.

That said, a minor downside of the shop is that they don’t have free parking, which makes them a bit inconvenient to visit. Also, their products overall are a bit pricey.

Pros

  • Extensive catalog
  • Great for knitting and sewing needs
  • Over 60 shops in New Zealand and Australia
  • Frequently offers discounts

Cons

  • Hard to ask for assistance from the staff
  • Sometimes untidy

When my friend was looking for very specific knitting patterns and yarns, Lincraft was the only shop to stock them. It’s the go-to for knitting and sewing needs given its extensive product catalog for these.

The shop was founded in 2005 and has grown to have over 60 shops in New Zealand and Australia. They stand by their goal of stocking the rarest sewing/knitting finds by sourcing internationally.

In addition, they also promote the growth of beginner arts and crafts hobbyists by making “How To” videos

Many will also be pleased with their frequent discounts, especially through their online shop.

In terms of downsides, however, their staff is a bit limited, making it hard to ask for assistance even if the store is not full. This also results in their shop sometimes being untidy.

Pros

  • Great for paper-related crafting
  • Well-designed online platform
  • Delivers online orders quickly
  • Well-stocked and spacious shop

Cons

  • Staff are often too busy to help
  • Had cases of not honoring discounts/promos

Kaisercraft is my go-to shop for paper-related crafts because it has pretty paper pads, embellishments, and albums.

The shop has been operating since the early 2000s and has over 100 stores across Australia. I believe their strength is their online shopping service because their platform is well-designed and they deliver quickly.

Their shop in Adelaide is well-stocked, especially with gifting items and accessories. It’s one of the most spacious craft shops I have visited in the city, which makes visits here comfortable.

They can improve, however, in terms of customer service, as their staff are often too busy to help. Also, they’ve had cases of accidentally not honoring discounts.

Pros

  • Good choice for sewing and knitting needs
  • Over 75 years in operation
  • Approachable staff
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Small shop
  • Limited catalog of items not related to sewing or knitting

Button Bar is true to its name; finding any button I needed was a breeze here. They stock many buttons in different materials, styles, and colors.

With over 75 years in operation, the shop remains one of the best choices for sewing and knitting-related projects. It’s no wonder my friends from a knitting club swear by the shop’s quality.

The shop also has friendly staff. They provide great tips for beginners too.

The shop also has an accessible location in Adelaide Arcade that makes it easy to visit.

That said, it’s a bit small, making it crowded during peak hours. Also, it has limited choices for crafting items not related to sewing or knitting.

Pros

  • Good choice for paper crafting materials
  • Provides 40 lessons about paper crafting monthly
  • Reasonable prices

Cons

  • 30 minutes away from CBD
  • The online shop has a confusing layout

Paper Flourish is one of the best choices for paper crafting because of its beautiful premade designs for cards, scrapbooking templates, patterned prints, and more.

Since its founding in 2010, the shop has become a go-to for crafting materials, thanks in part to the 40 paper crafting and scrapbooking lessons it holds monthly. Attending here has always been fun for me because the teachers are very engaging.

They also stock some of the most recommended products for crafting like Ranger, Graphic 45, and Websters. I took my chance to buy these in bulk, as the prices are pretty reasonable.

That said, they’re a bit further from the CBD (about 30 minutes) than the other shops on this list, making them slightly less accessible. I also found the layout of their online shop confusing.
