The Best Greek Restaurants in North Adelaide Serving Delicious Ambrosia-Like Dishes

Not even the gods of Olympus could turn down a well-cooked souvlaki or gyro from North Adelaide.

Though far from the Mediterranean, the area has authentic Greek restaurants with servings straight from Athens or Rhodes.

Our team proved this theory to the test when we hit up spots like Meze Mazi and Platos. Everything we learned, from game-changing hacks to the dishes that might give you chronic cravings, is detailed below!

Zeus

From skuxxhabibz

Address: 58 Churchill Rd, Prospect
Contact Details: (08) 7120 2380
Operating Hours: Tue to Sun – 11 am to 8:30 pm
Website

Your restaurant can’t be called Zeus and fake it. This homely haunt with traditional Greek bites certainly earned the name.

They dish out yiros that are nothing short of divine, with tender, well-seasoned lamb or chicken that’s kissed by the grill and wrapped in a pillowy soft pita. These wraps are then drenched in a variety of sauces, like garlic, sweet chili, and BBQ.

In addition, they have “Meat Pack” deals ideal for group dining. These usually come with a generous offering of 500 to 250 grams of your chosen meat, pita bread, cheese, and sauce.

Tip: Tired of waiting in line while others happily eat? Save your seat and keep your sanity.

Meze Mazi

From mezemazi

Address: 86B Prospect Rd, Prospect
Contact Details: (08) 8269 2777
Operating Hours:

  • Tue to Thu – 6 pm to 9 pm
  • Fri – 5 pm to 10 pm
  • Sat – 6 pm to 10 pm
  • Sun – 12 pm to 2:30 pm, 6 pm to 9 pm

Website

The rustic Meze Mazi’s Greek food hits just right, blending traditional ingredients with the head chef’s modern and creative style.

On our last visit, we kicked things off with the smoky and earthy melitzana—char-smoked eggplant, roasted capsicum, aromatics, and olive oil. We then followed it with pancetta, which wowed our team with savory pork belly strips.

For the main event, the lamb cutlet took center stage. Patiently grilled and served with oven-baked potatoes and tzatziki, this one boasted umami-rich, garlicky, and zingy notes.

Tip: If you have an upcoming party, consider throwing it at Meze Mazi’s private functions. Their laid-back but stylish space can handle up to 100 guests.

Platos

Contact Details: (08) 8342 3338
Operating Hours:

  • Mon – 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Tue to Thu – 11:30 am to 8:30 pm
  • Fri – 11:30 am to 10 pm
  • Sat – 12 pm to 10 pm
  • Sun – 5 pm to 8:30 pm

Website

Platos’ claim to fame is its delicious and wide range of yiros that will whisk you straight to Greece with every mouthful. For starters, they have lamb, chicken, falafel, halloumi, and even salt and pepper calamari yiros.

The variant to try, though, is the Athenian one—a wrap that stands out due to its simplicity and authenticity. Its use of perfectly seasoned lamb, sweet onions, ripe tomatoes, and spicy chili feta results in bold flavors with a subtle fiery kick.

To balance the intense flavors, the restaurant serves Greek slaw with greens and aromatics in olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing. Homemade sweets are also available, with baklava and Greek butter shortbread as our favorites.

Tip: Let’s face it; the Adelaide traffic can really grind our gear. Order online if you don’t want to deal with it.

AMMŌS Greek Bistro

Operating Hours:

  • Wed – 5 pm to 10:30 pm
  • Thu – 12 pm to 3 pm, 5 pm to 11 pm

  • Sat – Thu – 12 pm to 3 pm, 5 pm to 11 pm
  • Sun – Thu – 12 pm to 3 pm, 5 pm to 10:30 pm

Website

AMMŌS is the kind of Greek joint that feels like home while looking effortlessly chic. The menu? A delicious mashup of classic and contemporary flavors that you’ll plan return trips for.

The saganaki, an herby, grilled Greek cheese with a gooey center, is our go-to dish here. We then typically follow that with vine leaves wrapped around a delicious pork mince and rice filling, a starter that’s delicately meaty, nutty, and sweet.

However, the real flavor comes from their “from-the-grill” mains. You can keep it simple by having the chicken with seasonal potatoes, tasting the ocean with marinated prawns, or going all out with the tomato sauce-covered lamb shank with a side of greens.

Tip: Live music keeps things festive at AMMŌS every Thursday. Swing by during this day if you want a slice of traditional Greek tunes to go along with your yiros.

Taverna

From tavernagreek

Address: 290 Port Rd, Hindmarsh
Contact Details: (08) 8346 5515
Operating Hours:

  • Fri – 11:30 am to 2 pm, 5 pm to 9 pm
  • Sat – 5 pm to 10 pm
  • Sun – 11:30 am to 2 pm, 5 pm to 9 pm

Website

The family-run Taverna nails the balance between modern tavern vibes and sleek decor, proving that 20 years in the game doesn’t mean you can’t keep things fresh. Their food follows suit, cooking up tradition together with modern spins.

Crowd-pleasers like the chargrilled bread with olives and grilled pita are two dishes we always order. The last time we were here, though, we opted for the savory, beer-battered zucchinis—a choice we don’t regret.

In terms of mains, Taverna delivers a mean moussaka, layering potatoes, eggplant, and ground beef beneath a béchamel sauce. There’s also the Leonidas: lamb shoulder off the spit, chicken souvlaki, fried potatoes, and tzatziki—a feast fit for the gods.

Tip: Daily specials make Taverna stand out. Check their website’s first page to see what they’re currently serving.

If you want Greek food that’s quick, easy on the wallet, and skips the frills, Prospect Yiros & Gozleme is the spot to visit. Sure, they may just be a food court stall, but their classic yiros will still satisfy those cravings in no time.

Their yiros come with a trove of options, like falafel, beef, chicken, or lamb, all packed with fresh veggies, aromatics, and your pick of sauces. You can order them solo or on a platter—the latter being the better choice for starving customers or crews.

In addition, they aren’t afraid to go foreign by whipping up Gozleme. This is Turkish flatbread stuffed with mixed cheese, spinach, and egg that’s best finished with chips and a sweet bev.

Tip: Be bold with the sauces. Trying them all is one of the best ways to enjoy the yiros here.

For your extras, consider having their Aussie-inspired bites. The top picks include fried calamari, prawns, and butterfish, but you can also go for alternatives like chips and chicken nuggets.

As for the desert, the baklava is the show-stealer with its flaky layers—each brimming with the flavors of sweet honey syrup and crunchy walnuts. You also won’t want to skip the vanilla-flavored bougatsa, a more velvety option finished with sugar dusting.

Two Hungry Guys whips up top-tier charcoal yiros that may just earn the title of North Adelaide’s GOAT—Greatest of All Tastes.

What to savor? It all boils down to whether you prefer lamb or chicken, as both variants are filled to the brim with lettuce, fresh tomato, sliced onion, and homemade garlic tzatziki.

But if you’re seeking a guilt-free option, aim for their vegetarian falafel yiros with a Lebanese twist. We sampled it just this past July, and the combination of pickled onion, cucumber, turnips, and Lebanese toum creates a creamy, aromatic delight.

Tips: You can earn loyalty points on every order placed on their website. These points can be used for future orders.

In addition, remember that Two Hungry Guys don’t accept reservations. Be early or you’ll wait in line.
