It’s not a hot take to say that Palm Tree Finance’s customer service is sound. Their reps (once you’re in) answer promptly, sometimes even outside of business hours.

Clients also directly chat with and receive updates from Paul Lu. He’s the owner, and the guy is often praised for his realistic advice on matters like loan amount reasonability.

In addition, he breaks down technicalities in plain English. That’s neat for those new to concepts such as grants, rate structures, and lender conditions.

Speaking of lenders, they work with 30-plus financing institutions. It’s not the biggest number here, but your chances of securing better rates and terms are still favourable.

The real drawback is Palm Tree’s weekend closure. Adelaide has a few brokers who see clients on Saturdays.

First consults aren’t done instantly either. I had to book ahead to secure the 15-minute initial phone call.

Adrian and David Signore of Loans Combined do more than loans. Both have a solid taxation background and can analyse finances deeper than most, including the tax implications.

Lender-wise, their network is also large, with over 60 names available. What’s handy is that you can peek at the options’ general principal+interest rates via the website instead of calling.

Now, I’m not saying their customer service is dreadful. Many clients, especially first-time home buyers, found the firm’s staff responsive and knowledgeable.

They’re quick, too. Some interviews secured loans in less than a week; one even locked hers in only two days!

It’s best not to count on same-day meetings, though. Loans Combined draws in lots of clients.

Another snag is experience. Being open since 2018 is no easy feat, but more seasoned options are around.

But hey, most of them don’t provide free loan calculators!

Established back in 2006, Zanda Wealth comes with over two decades of experience. In fact, they’re the longest-running firm here.

One feat that makes it obvious is how well-informed the staff is. They often help first-time buyers understand complex bits like grants, FHLDS, stamp duty exemptions, policies, and interest rates.

Even better, their brokers are said to be skilled at negotiating for more favourable deals or conditions.

Those with existing mortgages rate them highly, too. Refinancing for reduced repayments is among the firm’s top solutions.

Still, it would be more convenient if they had weekend hours.

We also have to bring up their history of sending out spam texts/calls, which a few might find off-putting.

Past that, Zanda Wealth is a strong option. Their 100-plus-lender network alone is a massive perk.

What’s more, you don’t have to pay for phone consults and tools (like loaning calculators).

Mayfair Finance is worth ringing if you value industry recognition. See, they’ve won MFAA’s Best Diversified Mortgage Broking Business in 2023 and have been shortlisted by The Adviser several times.

Their customer service is just as notable. Like the financial advisors we trust, their main guy (Darren McCormack) also receives props for offering clients valuable tips, pre- and post-loan approval.

You’re also looking at a decade-old, one-stop shop brokerage with connections to over 50 lenders across Australia. The list includes both bank and non-bank institutions for business and personal loans (which is an expertise of these lenders).

Sadly, weekend hours and office meetings on Fridays aren’t a thing yet.

It’s also smart to book a session ahead if you’re only free in the mornings. Slots for this period don’t last.

The upside? Appointments can be set wherever you like, and they run for 30 minutes, longer than what the majority offer.

The clients we chatted with described their Search Mortgages experience as “smooth and easy.” As they say, staff like Glen and Nick often provide detailed explanations and constant updates, with multi-channel availability to boot.

Many also brought up the firm’s personal touches, such as delivering paperwork to the clients’ workplaces. Heck, they even sent out housewarming gifts!

Above all, the firm is reliable at tracking down the lowest possible rates and most suitable loan types, like variable, package, and split.

No shocker there, honestly. Search Mortgages offers pre-approval and comparison solutions across more than 60 lenders, giving them more “wiggle room.”

As with most, though, we’ll mark their lack of weekend hours as a minus. Not everyone can ditch work midweek.

Online consults on certain weekdays can be tricky to book as well. For instance, Thursdays generally don’t have afternoon slots.
