Boost your academic performance to the top with the best tutoring services in Adelaide!

  • Tutor qualifications - We prioritised centres that employ experienced educators with solid subject knowledge, preferably with three or more years of teaching under the Australian curriculum.
  • Personalised learning plans - Great tutoring isn’t one-size-fits-all. We prefer centres that build lessons around each student’s needs, tweaking their style and content to suit different goals, learning speeds, and confidence levels.
  • Booking flexibility - We looked for centres that make scheduling easy, with plenty of available time slots and options for evenings, weekends, and online learning.
  • Support and service - Responsive staff can make a huge difference, so we paid close attention to how approachable and helpful they are. Whether it’s sorting out a new schedule or encouraging a struggling student, support goes a long way.
  • Price fairness - We also considered whether their fees are reasonable based on the quality of tutoring, the learning environment, and any added support included in their tutoring packages.

When my son joined the basketball team, I was pretty chuffed. It’s good to see him giving new things a go. But not long after, I noticed his marks were starting to slip in a few subjects. I didn’t want to kill his vibe, but I also didn’t want him falling behind at school.

So I looked into tutoring and found a centre that really helped. His confidence picked up, his grades started coming back, and he’s managing both school and sport a lot better now.

I figured I’m probably not the only parent dealing with this, so I’ve put together a list of solid tutoring centres around Adelaide. Hopefully, it helps make things a bit easier.

Jumbo Learning takes a broad approach to tutoring, combining academic support with educational therapy and individualised learning plans. Its tutoring services cover students from Reception through Year 12, as well as TAFE and university learners needing assignment and coursework assistance.

For primary students, Jumbo Learning uses teaching methods drawn from globally competitive education systems, supported by formally trained teachers with experience across different educational environments. High school tutoring focuses on assignments, projects, homework, tests, curriculum knowledge, structure, organisation, and preparation for further tertiary study.

A key feature is the company’s focus on tailored academic intervention. It offers individualised lesson plans for children needing intensive gap filling of two to four years or more, along with targeted assessment and relearning sessions designed to address specific academic needs step by step.

The educational therapy component is particularly focused on learners with learning differences, disabilities, and challenges. Jumbo Learning describes its interventions as individualised to each learner and combines solo academic intervention with group intervention as part of its broader approach.

Tutoring also extends beyond conventional school subjects. TAFE and university students can receive guidance with coursework, reports, essays, assignments, and managing academic workloads, while the service includes guidance intended to help students produce their own original written work.

The company also highlights professional teaching experience and a multidisciplinary approach to learning, with a stated 20 years of teaching experience. Testimonials from parents describe positive experiences with mathematics and English support, including one-on-one assistance, organised sessions, and help with understanding and editing academic work.

Jumbo Learning may suit families seeking highly individualised academic support, particularly where a child needs targeted intervention or help addressing learning gaps. Its combination of tutoring, educational therapy, mentoring, and tertiary academic assistance gives it a wide service scope, although its intensive personalised approach is especially relevant to learners who need more than conventional academic help.

Pros

  • Educational therapy alongside academics
  • Support from Reception through Year 12
  • Multidisciplinary learning approach
  • 20 years of teaching experience

Cons

  • Mix of individual and group intervention

Calm, structured, and supportive approach

“Priscilla has been an incredible support for my son, who has higher learning needs. She is patient, encouraging, and adapts her teaching approach to suit his individual learning style. Since working with her, we have seen a clear improvement in his academic performance, and his grades have steadily improved.

Most importantly, Priscilla has helped build his confidence with learning. He approaches tasks with less anxiety and greater self-belief, which has made a significant difference both in and out of tutoring sessions. Her calm, structured, and supportive approach has had a very positive impact, and we are extremely grateful for the progress he has made under her guidance.

I would highly recommend Priscilla to any family seeking a tutor who is skilled, compassionate, and genuinely invested in a child’s learning journey.”

Would highly recommend to anyone

“My 9 year old son started at Jumbo Learning after falling behind in school. Priscilla has worked with him at his own comfortable pace, setting achievable goals and targets for him. Being autistic also causes him to struggle in unfamiliar environments, Priscilla is warm and welcoming and he has enjoyed his sessions. Would highly recommend to anyone that is needing extra help for their children.”

Unicorn Academy Australia takes a broad, structured approach to tutoring, supporting students from Reception through Year 12 across core school subjects and specialised academic programs. Its tutoring is positioned around curriculum alignment, personalised face-to-face teaching, small-group learning, and building both academic skills and confidence.

The service covers Maths, Science, and English alongside subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Maths, General Mathematics, and Accountancy. Students can also access preparation for selective school entrance exams, scholarship coaching, ICAS, AMC, Olympiad programs, UCAT, and English proficiency exams including IELTS, PTE, and OET.

A key feature is the emphasis on tailored learning and foundational development rather than simply delivering course content. The academy describes its approach as nurturing curiosity, discipline, academic mastery, and clearer thinking, with programs designed for students who may be struggling, lacking motivation, or seeking to advance their studies.

The teaching team includes Dr. Amitava Ghosh, the academy’s founder, who has more than 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. His qualifications include a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Master of Teaching in Secondary Science, while his experience includes teaching placements in South Australian public schools and familiarity with the Australian Curriculum, Science, Mathematics, and SACE Stage 1 and 2.

Student feedback highlights several practical strengths in the tutoring experience. Comments describe teachers as thorough in explaining topics, responsive to questions, supportive, and engaging, while one student particularly valued the welcoming atmosphere and the ease of asking questions.

The range of learning formats can also suit different academic needs, with group and one-on-one options available across several programs. The English proficiency packages are fully online and include interactive resources, AI-based evaluation, mock tests, practice materials, and scheduled live tutor sessions, giving that part of the service a more flexible format.

Unicorn Academy Australia may be particularly suitable for students who want structured academic support across school subjects, exam preparation, or extension programs, especially where personalised teaching and foundational development are priorities. Families seeking support from primary through senior secondary levels can choose from a relatively broad selection of tutoring and specialised academic programs within the academy’s offering.

Pros

  • Curriculum-aligned tutoring
  • Small-group and one-on-one options
  • Specialised excellence programs
  • Experienced and academically qualified founder

Cons

  • Some programs use longer lesson durations

Since mathematics is where my son was having trouble, I immediately signed him up for Maths Lit. It’s run by Abdullah, who used to be a high school maths teacher and shifted into full-time tutoring around 2014.

Their focus is purely on maths, with lessons available from primary school all the way to university level. You can choose between one-on-one sessions, small groups, or fully online, depending on what suits your style.

The free trial lesson was a huge plus for us since it gave my son a chance to see if their teaching style suited him. I also appreciate the Maths Helpline, which lets students get help between sessions without having to wait.

The only downside, apart from their focus being solely on maths, is the cost. They charge $85 per hour for private face-to-face sessions and $75 for online sessions, so they’re not exactly an affordable option.

Pros

  • More than 10 years of experience
  • Free trial lesson available
  • Flexible session formats (in-person, online, and group)
  • Open 7 days a week
  • Maths Helpline offers support between sessions

Cons

  • Above-average prices
  • Limited to maths subjects only

Now, I’m in my school’s advanced class all thanks to him

“Abdullah is a very patient and creative tutor who explains the concept of math very well. Before he started tutoring me, I was behind in math and couldn’t understand any of the class work. Now, I’m in my school’s advanced class all thanks to him. He also responds very quickly when I ask him questions online and his lessons are extremely enjoyable. A very good tutor!”

Abdullah is the best maths tutor you could have!

“Abdullah is a great tutor, he always comes up with different methods to help me understand the concept in maths rather than only teaching the methods. He always reinforces strict expectations on my effort in maths and pays attention to my performance at school to ensure that I always achieve the best results. He is also excellent in explaining requirements for maths assignments as well as providing great exam practice materials that align with the school’s syllabus. Abdullah is the best maths tutor you could have!”

Advanced Education is a tutoring service that focuses on Year 11 and 12 students, especially those chasing strong Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) results. What’s interesting is that they only hire actual teachers and top ATAR grads, which gives their lessons a solid edge.

They offer group classes and one-on-one sessions, either online or in person, with subjects like maths, English, chemistry, physics, and more. They also support students with autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties, tailoring lessons to suit different needs and routines. That kind of care isn’t always easy to find.

It’s also a good thing that they have a money-back guarantee for your first lesson. If you’re not satisfied, you won’t need to pay anything.

However, given that their focus is on Year 11 students and above, they’re not a good choice if you want a tutor for someone who is younger.

Pros

  • Tutors are licensed teachers and top ATAR grads
  • Open 7 days a week
  • Flexible session formats
  • Inclusive support for special needs students
  • Money-back guarantee on first lesson

Cons

  • Not a good fit for younger students
  • Tends to get fully booked quickly

The teachers are great and very consistent

“My family and I found so much support in Advance Education. It was easy to stay in contact with and always replied immediately, living remotely this was a god sent to us. We found really well suited teachers to our year 12 son who was needing support we could not give at that level. The teachers are great and very consistent. Thank you, keep up the good work. I highly recommend them”

Anything you need regarding tuition Alan accommodates quickly and at a very high standard. Will continue using their services next year, too. Highly recommend.”

A tutoring centre I found to be a solid fit for many students is Tutors SA. They offer support from primary through to senior school, with subjects like maths, English, biology, and chemistry all covered.

What really stands out is their focus on scholarship and accelerated programs. These are aimed at students preparing for ACER scholarship exams, the Ignite test, or STEM pathways. They also run an accelerated holiday program in January, which is handy if you want to track progress or get ahead.

Flexibility is another plus. Students can choose between small-group or one-on-one sessions, and they offer hybrid classes that suit families juggling busy schedules. With centres in Campbelltown and Mitcham, getting to sessions is fairly straightforward for most Adelaide families.

The only catch is the cost. One-on-one tutoring starts at around $100 per hour, making Tutors SA one of the pricier options available.

Pros

  • More than 10 years of experience
  • Offers free initial assessment
  • Two tutoring centres in Adelaide
  • Has scholarship prep lessons for ACER and Ignite
  • Flexible session formats
  • Open 7 days a week

Cons

  • Above-average prices
  • Inconsistent operating hours

We truly appreciate the role Tutors SA played in her preparation

“My daughter passed the IGNITE exam with really good results, and we truly appreciate the role Tutors SA played in her preparation. Especially for the prep tests and practice papers for Maths, English, and Abstract Reasoning. It gave her the right kind of challenge and confidence she needed. Big thanks to the Tutors SA team for the tremendous effort and support throughout. Definitely recommend them!”

Both my children have shown significant improvement in their studies

“I am extremely grateful to TutorSA for the incredible support they have provided to my son and daughter. The teachers are knowledgeable and dedicated, ensuring that students truly understand the concepts rather than just memorizing them.

Since joining, both my children have shown significant improvement in their studies, gaining confidence and better grades. The learning environment is positive, and the staff is always ready to help. I highly recommend TutorSA to any parent looking for quality education and personalized attention for their children.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication!”

SY Tuitions is the tutoring centre that I think will suit college students pretty well. They have more than 15 years of experience, and their operating hours run until 10 PM every day, which makes them a good fit for students who might be loaded with a ton of classes.

They teach students from primary to tertiary in subjects like English, science, and maths, but their specialty is research design and academic writing. These lessons can help you in breaking down dense readings, linking theory to real examples, and organising your arguments with more clarity.

The only drawbacks are that replies to enquiries can take up to 24 hours, and they lack a clear pricing structure. You need to complete their free assessment to find out the cost, as fees are tailored to your specific needs.

Pros

  • 15 years of experience
  • Open until 10 PM daily
  • Works with all levels from primary to tertiary
  • Offers free assessments
  • Provides research design and academic writing lessons

Cons

  • Responses to enquiries may take up to 24 hours
  • Lacks a clear pricing structure

SY Tuitions has been amazing!

“SY Tuitions has been amazing! I did 3 subjects: Methods, Physics, Spec and Sam has explained all these subjects in a way that makes sense. My grades have improved exponentially and feel way more confident going into the exam. Highly recommend for any future students looking to do well in school!

Another tutoring centre that covers a pretty wide range of topics is RiseUp Tutorials. It was started over five years ago by Anuja Kapote, who brings together her experience in software engineering, lecturing, corporate training, and early childhood education to offer a broad mix of lessons.

While she teaches the usual subjects like maths and science, she also runs sessions in areas you don’t often see at other centres. Public speaking is one example where students learn to present with confidence in front of an audience.

Her work isn’t limited to school students. She also supports job seekers who want to improve their chances in a competitive market, offering interview training and resume writing services to help applicants make a strong impression.

However, since Anuja teaches every lesson herself in a one-on-one setting, her schedule can fill up quickly, making it important to book well in advance.

Pros

  • Works with both students and adults
  • Offers both in-person and online one-on-one sessions
  • Has public speaking classes
  • Offers interview training and resume writing classes

Cons

  • Single tutor limits availability
  • Unavailable on Sundays and Mondays

She always took the time to explain things clearly

“As a parent, I couldn’t have asked for a better tutor for my child. Anuja was not only professional and knowledgeable, but also incredibly patient and caring. She always took the time to explain things clearly and made sure my child felt supported and confident in their learning. I truly appreciated the positive impact she had not just academically, but also in building self-belief. Thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication. Highly recommended!”
