Pros
- Founded in 2001
- Has complete equipment in each clinic
- Offers many procedures
- Streamlined process
Cons
- Price rates
- Limited doctors in Adelaide branch
Vision Eye Institute was founded in 2001, and they’ve since expanded their range to Melbourne, Victoria, Adelaide, and more. They’re made up of a large team of experts who are recognized both locally and internationally.
In fact, most of their doctors have private practices and are holding professorship positions. They’re aided by high-quality surgery technology available in each clinic, which is why you won’t need to transfer facilities to get treatment.
This allows them to conduct almost all ophthalmology procedures, from laser eye surgery to cataract removal, dry eye issues, and corneal transplants.
Their large executive and administrative team makes transactions with them quick, from appointment setting to consultations and actual procedures. They have one of the fastest paperwork processes we’ve seen.
Speaking of booking appointments, doing this through their website is very easy. Putting your personal information, choosing a clinic, and asking questions are straightforward.
Most importantly, the company has a good success rate for their operations, as proven by many satisfied clients.
That said, a downside with them is that their rates are pricier compared to others. For the quality of their service, we found this reasonable though.
Aside from this, they have limited doctors available specifically for their branch in Adelaide. This is why you may be referred to their other clinics instead.

Pros
- Expertise in pediatric ophthalmology
- Has more than 15 years of experience
- Highly qualified
- Accessible location
Cons
- Easily fully booked
- Equipment in private clinic is limited
Dr Swati Sinkar is well-known around South Australia for her expertise in pediatric ophthalmology. Her child-friendly and patient-focused approach makes consultations easy with her.
She has more than 15 years of experience, and she has been awarded a fellowship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
Notably, she practices the scientist-practitioner model, which is why she still conducts research on eye injuries in children. Her works are published in peer-reviewed journals, which proves her credentials.
Her range of eye care services is compatible with most clients. This includes cataract surgery, glaucoma, eyelid malposition, and more.
The clinic, currently in Melbourn St., is wheelchair-accessible and provides adequate parking. Additionally, they make sure to make waiting lines short by planning appointments well.
Dr Swati can also be met through the Kingswood Eye Center, Northern Eye Specialists, or in Mt Gambier Eye Specialists, which makes her a more convenient choice.
Finally, many clients praised her for being very accommodating and friendly. This professional attitude makes children easily become comfortable in her clinic.
From what we’ve seen, a downside is that appointments may be hard to set given that there’s only one doctor in the clinic.
Another thing is that the equipment in her private clinic is limited, which is why you may be referred to another facility for some procedures.

Pros
- Founded in 1995
- Large team of doctors
- Conducts clinical trials
- Well-designed clinic
Cons
- Long waiting times
- Issues of miscommunication with schedule
Adelaide Eye and Retina Centre was founded in 1995, and their clinic has been recently renovated. From here, it’s also easy to visit Adelaide Day Surgery.
They have a team of more than 20 people, making their available schedules more abundant.
Their main ophthalmologist, Dr Muecke, specialises in oculoplastic surgery and ocular oncology. He has training and fellowship from Jerusalem and London.
Another notable member is Dr Gilhotra, who has specialties in vitro-retinal surgery and surgical retina. He actively publishes articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals.
They offer a complete range of ophthalmology treatments, including surgery. This includes those concerning retinal detachment, cataracts, epiretinal members, and macular holes.
The ambience and design of their clinic are elegant. Their receptionists are friendly and accommodating too.
Lastly, the credibility of the clinic is further established through the clinical trials they conducted to review diseases like macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, and ocular hypertension.
If there’s anything we don’t like, it’s that their waiting lines are very long. Some clients complained of having to wait up to two hours before meeting a doctor.
Aside from this, some also complained of miscommunication issues with their reception staff, specifically with setting dates of appointments.

Pros
- Has many locations
- Has a large team
- Well-experienced ophthalmologists
- Well-designed clinic
Cons
- Long waiting times
- Some complaints about an unaccommodating doctor
Kingswood Eye Centre has many locations, including those in Ceduna, Mainlaton, and Glen Osmond. This makes them very accessible.
In addition, their ophthalmologists work in various hospitals all around South Australia, including Mount Barker, Windsor Gardens Day Surgery, and Wallaroo Hospital. This proves their credibility.
The clinic has a partnership with Zeiss, which is a New Zealand company with expertise in optoelectronics. Through this, the clinic has advanced examination equipment.
Many of their staff, from ophthalmic doctors to nurses, have had experience overseas. They cater to students in training too, which shows their expertise.
We found their clinic’s design to be welcoming and pleasant. The place has many parking spots, further making it convenient.
They specialize in pediatric ophthalmology too. Dr Sinkar, whose clinic can be found in the list, also works under Kingswood Eye Centre.
From what we’ve seen, a downside of the clinic is that some clients found one of their doctors to be unwilling to listen to their input.
Aside from this, they’re highly in demand, which is why they have long waiting times.

These include being a top entrant in Otago Medical School, his teaching position at the University of Adelaide, and his membership with various prestigious ophthalmic organizations.
He has expertise in various ophthalmic procedures, such as pterygium surgery, corneal laser treatment, cataract surgery, and laser vision correction. Because of this, he can handle most cases.
We also like their streamlined process for booking appointments and consultations. This is easily done through their website.
Dr Ben is also praised by many clients for being very informative about the treatments he administers. This helps in keeping you informed regarding aftercare.
That said, a downside with the clinic is that their rates can be pricey, especially for laser treatments.
Another thing is that they have fewer schedules available because they only have one doctor.
