Get that sugar rush from the best candy stores in Adelaide

  • Variety: I picked stores that sell more than just the common gumball and milk chocolate bars. I want to try something new when I shop for treats!
  • Quality: There should be a good selection of premium candies displayed in their store, and they should always be well-stocked.
  • Value for money: The prices of the candies should reflect their quality and their condition (whether they’re new stock or old).
  • Accessibility: These stores should have nearby parking spaces or should be near main roads for easy car service bookings.

A little sweet after a long day goes a long way! Whether it’s for Halloween trick-or-treat or for my candy bowl at work, I always make sure I’m well-stocked with my favorite candies. These sweet treats are my stress relievers, so I only buy good-quality ones.

I searched online and asked close friends for the best candy shops in Adelaide for my sweet stash. Here are my top recommendations.

Walking into Blackeby’s Old Sweet Shop feels like stepping into a Harry Potter confectionery store with its whimsical decor and rows of colorful sugary treats. From a range of classic sweets like butterballs to modern favorites like Warheads sour sprays, this candy shop has something that can satisfy your cravings.

I went here once with my kids to fill our snack cupboard. I wanted to try something new, and the staff was extremely helpful in suggesting unique treats, such as licorice blocks and chocolate cane toads. She was even accommodating and patient in answering queries about their products.

While I had a stellar experience with their staff, unfortunately, there were complaints about their rude and standoffish behavior from common friends and acquaintances.

Pros

  • Wide range of candy options
  • Vegan options
  • Offers wholesale purchase
  • Helpful and accommodating staff
  • Affordable
  • Open during weekends

Cons

  • Some staff are rude
  • No proper parking space
  • Not wheelchair-friendly

    Lovely and affordable

Staff are lovely, and sweets are always affordable. I’ve been going here for years, and the quality and atmosphere has never changed once! I can always find something I love and wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere. My personal favourites are Pear Drops and lolly Bananas. You can find almost anything here, and the staff are a great help. I often recommend this shop to family and friends, and they love it too.

An amazing place with a wide range of traditional and modern sweets.

So many favourites here, and they also have a range of sugar-free sweets as well.

Will certainly be a repeat customer.

Seaside Sweets is a beachside vintage-themed candy shop that offers ice cream, drinks, chips, and rare candies. They also have an online shop to make it easier for folks who live far from their stores.

I shopped at this store once to try the Mini Melts ice cream. The staff was happy to assist me and gave me recommendations based on what I liked. I also liked that she was friendly and chatty, ensuring I felt welcome.

The only thing I didn’t like about this store was how cramped it was. The aisles were too small for two adults to pass through at the same time. I wish the store were a bit bigger.

    Pros

    • Wide range of candy options
    • Friendly and polite staff
    • Affordable
    • Clear pricing labels

If you like everything chocolate-covered, then Quinzi’s Confectionery should be on your go-to list. They specialize in everything chocolate, which ranges from chocolate-coated Turkish delight to vegan chocolate goodness. They also have a colorful range of sugar-coated goodness for your baking needs.

I visited this store once with a friend to find chocolate goodies for her charcuterie board. We were immediately welcomed and assisted by one of the staff. She made sure that we found what we were looking for, and she gave us testers to try their bestsellers. I ended up with the chocolate-coated scorched almonds.

My only gripe with this store is they’re closed on the weekends, which is such a shame since I’m mostly available during those days.

      Pros

      • Vegan options
      • Locally sourced ingredients
      • Friendly and polite staff
      • Testers are available
      • Offers delivery

        Wonderful shop

We were here again, yesterday. They’ve always got new flavours to sample. Their own Australian made products, and Italian imported treats. Same wonderful family owner/operated business.

Melba’s Chocolates has been selling decadent chocolate treats since 1981. They follow traditional candy-making methods using old heritage chocolate and confectionery equipment, such as the Forgrove 22B twist wrapper.

They also offer tours around their facility to show their processes and have a coffee shop to try out drinks that feature their chocolates.

I went there with my kids to check out their chocolate processes and shop for fresh sweets. The staff who welcomed us was energetic and friendly throughout the whole experience, and he was patient with my children’s questions. He also recommended a lot of their bestsellers but was never pushy about it—a five-star experience in my book!

However, their sugary treats are quite expensive. It can be a turn-off for moms like me with sugar-hungry kids.

        Pros

        • Traditionally made chocolates
        • Fun tours available
        • Coffee shop available

          Delightful experience

Melba’s Chocolates in the Adelaide Hills is a delightful experience for any chocolate lover! From the moment you step into the charming shop, you’re greeted by the rich aroma of handcrafted chocolates that immediately elevates your spirits. The wide variety of chocolates, from creamy truffles to decadent fudge, ensures there’s something for everyone.

What sets Melba’s apart is not just the quality of their chocolates, but also the chance to watch the chocolatiers at work. The factory tour provides fascinating insights into the chocolate-making process, making it a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

This was my second visit to Melbas. This time around, I decided to try their hot chocolate. They have a large range of special flavours. I tried the Turkish Delight Hot Chocolate and it was DIVINE. Will definitely be going back to try all of the other flavours!!

Hahndorf Sweets is a small vintage-themed candy shop with handpicked collections that range from locally made sweets to imported treats. Aside from their curated candies, they also offer handmade fudge and spuds, which are popular snacks in  Adelaide.

I went here with my family to buy handmade spuds, a candy made with condensed milk and coconut. The staff greeted us warmly and she began to assist us right away. She gave us recommendations based on our preferences and suggested some bestsellers without forcing us to buy one. It was a treat talking to her!

However, the store was too small. We had to backtrack to let other people pass.
