Pros

  • Specialty is Taiwanese cuisine
  • Large and filling potions
  • Fast serving time

Cons

  • Limited space
  • Doesn’t accept reservations

When we visited Moon Bear Dumpling Co’s restaurant, our attention was immediately grabbed by the unique mysticism-inspired branding on its logo and packaging.

The shop specializes in Taiwanese cuisine. Some of the best dishes we tried here were String Theory (dumpling noodle salad with peanut butter sauce) and the crunchy Mushroom Odyssey (stir-fried tofu and mushroom roll).

Their portions are large and filling! This is especially true for the Forest Moon Dumplings.

They come with side dishes like Taiwanese pickled veggies and mixed salad, which adds a delightful crunch to complement the delicate dim sum texture.

In addition, their serving time is fast. Their servers definitely deserve a shoutout for their friendliness and fast response to requests.

In terms of downsides, however, their space is a bit limited. It’s why they only accept walk-ins.

Pros

  • Convenient spot in Sefton Park (by the Princes Highway)
  • Fast serving time
  • Affordable
  • Features diverse cuisines

Cons

  • Small dining space
  • Needs to improve maintenance and cleanliness of dining space

Dumpling Go Go has a very convenient spot in Sefton Park (by the Princes Highway) that makes it a favorite for joggers. We often drive by the restaurant, so seeing plenty of runners grab a bite here piqued my interest.

We found that their menu is inspired by Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, and Malaysian cuisines.

My personal favorite is the steamed dumplings because they’re affordable, tasty, and large for their price. They’re even better eaten in chili oil broth, as it comes with an extra spicy kick!

I especially recommend it to those seeking quick and affordable satisfaction for their dim sum cravings, thanks to its wallet-friendly prices and efficient service.

That said, they’re more of a take-out restaurant, which is why their dining space isn’t very spacious. Also, it tends to be a bit dirty most of the time.

Pros

  • Good place for a quick bite (under 30 minutes of dining)
  • Convenient location on Hindley Street
  • Consistently serves fresh food
  • Reasonably priced meals

Cons

  • Small dining space
  • Some customers found their servers a bit cold

Honki Tonki is a great spot for a quick bite where you can dine in under 30 minutes. Their serving times are fast, and their menu can satisfy most Asian cuisine cravings.

Founded by the same owners of the successful Vietnamese eatery Sit Lo on Bank Street, the restaurant is conveniently situated on Hindley Street—easily accessible.

Some of the best dim sum I tried here were the earthy and savory mushroom dumplings, the delightfully crunchy fried prawn wonton, and the pork dumplings with sweet caramel sauce.

We appreciate that their food is consistently fresh and priced reasonably.

It’s a downer, though, that their dining space is limited. It becomes cramped during peak hours.

Also, some customers found their servers a bit cold.

Pros

  • Specializes in traditional Korean cuisine
  • Offers kimchi dumplings
  • Large serving sizes

Cons

  • Some rude staff
  • Long meal preparation times (sometimes more than 30 minutes)

Chicken and Dumplings is definitely for Korean cuisine enthusiasts. They pair delicious Korean fried chicken with traditional dumplings, making a scrumptious duo that’s especially good for times when you just want that classic greasy meal.

The restaurant’s founders are Korean immigrants, and they’re bringing their grandparents’ recipes to life, crafting authentic meals. Their dumplings, with chewy fillings and thin wrappers, are made using traditional preparation methods.

They also serve spicy and tangy kimchi dumplings that leave a strong impression on the first bite. I especially recommend the fried ones so you get an extra crunch.

Their serving sizes are large and are packed well for takeouts, making them great for picnics in nearby parks.

That said, some past customers complained of receiving rude service. They also take some time to prepare meals (sometimes taking more than 30 minutes).

Pros

  • Great for bulk buying frozen dumplings
  • Over 10 variations of dumplings
  • Processes orders fast

Cons

  • Small dining space
  • Has received complaints for inconsistent quality of food

Dumpling Deli is a gem if you’re looking for dumplings you can whip up at home. They mainly offer wholesale options, perfect for buying in bulk.

They were formerly Julie’s Dumplings, which was founded in 2005. They specialize in Chinese and Japanese food, selling dim sum, rice dishes, noodles, and more.

Their dumplings come in more than 10 variations. The standouts for me were the pan-fried gyoza—with a perfect blend of herbs and seasonings—and the BBQ beef dumplings served with a tangy teriyaki sauce.

They also consistently process orders fast for dining in, takeouts, and deliveries.

In terms of downsides, however, their dining space is small. Also, they’ve received some complaints over inconsistent food quality.
