Calabria Fencing is worth considering, especially if you’re trying to keep fencing costs down. The company is fairly new, launched in 2024, but its owner, Nick Calabrese, brings over three decades of experience to the table.

One thing that stood out to me is their discount. You get a 3% discount for every 10 metres of fencing installed, which can save a fair bit if you’re tackling a larger job. They handle rural fencing, chain fencing, and Good Neighbour fences that look decent from both sides.

Their fences come with a 20-year guarantee, and they also offer removal and disposal of old fencing, which saves a lot of hassle.

However, it should be noted that they can take up to a full day to respond to enquiries. And while Nick clearly knows his stuff, the rest of the crew might not be quite on the same level.

If you’re drawn to that old-school fence aesthetic, Adelaide Fence Builders is worth a look. They’ve been in the game for a while, with over 1,700 projects under their belt.

One standout service they offer is heritage wire fencing. It’s got that simple, eye-catching design that complements older Adelaide homes without looking out of place. 

For those after something more budget-friendly, they also offer PVC fencing. It’s low-maintenance and works well for a clean, modern finish.

What really caught my attention, though, were the extra features they can add to a property. They offer privacy screens and can fit automated gates that make coming and going feel seamless.

The one catch is that they don’t share any sort of pricing guide upfront. You’ll need to book a site visit before they give you a quote, which might be inconvenient if you’re still comparing options.

Active Fence and Retaining is one company I’d put on the shortlist if experience is your priority. They’ve been around for over a decade and have a decent-sized team capable of handling both home and commercial projects.

Their range of services is pretty broad. You’ll find all the usual suspects like Good Neighbour fencing, timber screens, and concrete sleeper retaining walls. 

What stands out, though, is their timber picket work. They use Australian-treated timber that’s resistant to termites and weather.

They also offer custom gates, which can be motorised if you’re after a bit of convenience.

Something else worth mentioning is that they help out with council approvals, especially for retaining walls. 

The only drawback is their customer service, as they sometimes cancel appointments at the last minute. I suspect it’s because the demand for their work is pretty high.

The contractor I chose to add more privacy around my property was Lee Benson Fencing. With nearly 15 years in the business, their experience played a big part in why I decided to go with them.

I opted for their Good Neighbour fence because it has a clean, balanced look on both sides. The whole installation went smoothly, and I was pleased I didn’t need to fall back on their customer satisfaction guarantee, which promises free rework until you’re fully happy.

They also walked me through their other services in case I needed more fencing down the line. They install timber and security fencing, plus frameless glass pool fencing if you’re after something more modern.

As for downsides, their schedule books up fast, and weekends aren’t really available. I had to wait longer than expected before I was able to secure an appointment.

Looking for a unique design for your new fence? Adelaide Balustrade & Fencing might be a good option. They’ve been in the game since 1985 and offer a solid range of fencing styles, including slat fencing, pool fencing, and aluminium pickets.

I find their customisation options to be really interesting. You can pitch your own ideas, and they’ll work with you, thanks to their in-house welding and customisation setup. They also use 3D CAD drawings so you can preview the final look before anything gets built.

If you’re not sure what design you want, they’ve got ready-made designer screens that add a bit of flair and also work well for privacy. It’s a nice balance between style and function.

That said, their pricing leans higher because of the custom work. I’ve also heard they occasionally miss appointments, which can be frustrating if you’re on a tight schedule.
