Give your yard a facelift with the best fence contractors in Adelaide!

  • Experience and certifications - We focused on contractors with at least three years of hands-on fencing experience and the proper certifications to operate in Adelaide, like the Certificate I in Construction (Fencing) from the Master Builders Association.
  • Work quality - We looked at how consistently they deliver strong, reliable fences by checking past projects, materials used, and any guarantees offered. We also paid attention to what past clients had to say.
  • Availability - We evaluated whether they cover most Adelaide suburbs and can handle both small installations and larger builds without long delays.
  • Professionalism - We considered whether their teams show up on time, communicate clearly, and treat homes with care. We also assessed how quickly they reply to enquiries and send quotes.
  • Price fairness - We checked whether their pricing lines up with the quality of their work, the materials used, and their level of experience.

Buying my first home felt like a big win. It was all fine and dandy at first, but after a few months, I started noticing how easy it was for people walking past to look straight into the lounge. Curtains helped a bit, but they didn’t fix the fishbowl feeling.

That’s when I realised I needed a proper fence, something solid that gave me a bit more privacy but still looked good from the street. I found a local contractor who knew what they were doing and sorted something sturdy without turning the place into Yatala Labour Prison.

I figured I’d save other homeowners the headache, so I’ve pulled together a list of the best fence contractors around Adelaide.

Calabria Fencing is worth considering, especially if you’re trying to keep fencing costs down. The company is fairly new, launched in 2024, but its owner, Nick Calabrese, brings over three decades of experience to the table.

One thing that stood out to me is their discount. You get a 3% discount for every 10 metres of fencing installed, which can save a fair bit if you’re tackling a larger job. They handle rural fencing, chain fencing, and Good Neighbour fences that look decent from both sides.

Their fences come with a 20-year guarantee, and they also offer removal and disposal of old fencing, which saves a lot of hassle.

However, it should be noted that they can take up to a full day to respond to enquiries. And while Nick clearly knows his stuff, the rest of the crew might not be quite on the same level.

Pros

  • Offers a 3% discount per 10 metres installed (30% max)
  • 20-year guarantee on all fences
  • Provides old fence removal and disposal
  • Can install farm fencing

Cons

  • Replies may take up to 24 hours
  • Company is relatively new in the industry

We’re happy customers!

“Calabria Fencing is helpful, communicative and reliable. A lot of effort and care went into the removal of our fence and a considerable amount of thick vegetation. They left the site very tidy. We’re happy customers! Thank you :)”

If you’re drawn to that old-school fence aesthetic, Adelaide Fence Builders is worth a look. They’ve been in the game for a while, with over 1,700 projects under their belt.

One standout service they offer is heritage wire fencing. It’s got that simple, eye-catching design that complements older Adelaide homes without looking out of place.

For those after something more budget-friendly, they also offer PVC fencing. It’s low-maintenance and works well for a clean, modern finish.

What really caught my attention, though, were the extra features they can add to a property. They offer privacy screens and can fit automated gates that make coming and going feel seamless.

The one catch is that they don’t share any sort of pricing guide upfront. You’ll need to book a site visit before they give you a quote, which might be inconvenient if you’re still comparing options.

Pros

  • Experienced team with 1,700+ completed projects
  • Offers heritage wire fencing
  • PVC fencing available as a budget-friendly option
  • Can install privacy screens and automated gates

Cons

  • Site visit required to receive a quote
  • Unavailable on Sundays

Active Fence and Retaining is one company I’d put on the shortlist if experience is your priority. They’ve been around for over a decade and have a decent-sized team capable of handling both home and commercial projects.

Their range of services is pretty broad. You’ll find all the usual suspects like Good Neighbour fencing, timber screens, and concrete sleeper retaining walls.

What stands out, though, is their timber picket work. They use Australian-treated timber that’s resistant to termites and weather.

They also offer custom gates, which can be motorised if you’re after a bit of convenience.

Something else worth mentioning is that they help out with council approvals, especially for retaining walls.

The only drawback is their customer service, as they sometimes cancel appointments at the last minute. I suspect it’s because the demand for their work is pretty high.

Pros

  • 10 years of experience
  • Can take on both residential and commercial projects
  • Uses treated wood for timber picket fencing
  • Offers motorised custom gate options
  • Assists with council approvals

Cons

  • Sometimes cancels appointments at the last minute
  • Tends to get fully booked quickly

End result was money well spent

“Active was great to deal with for our picket fencing. Although you can tell they’re slammed with work (as is most of the industry), their communication was good in keeping us updated with our job. End result was money well spent. Would recommend.”

-Phil and Tash Meakin, Google Reviews

Extremely happy with our new fence

“Great company to deal with, communication was excellent, workman on time, did a fantastic job, always open for options and ideas give or take. Work completed on time, lots of complements from neighbours. Extremely happy with our new fence. Certainly will use Active Fencing Again when needed and will recommend to family and friends.”

The contractor I chose to add more privacy around my property was Lee Benson Fencing. With nearly 15 years in the business, their experience played a big part in why I decided to go with them.

I opted for their Good Neighbour fence because it has a clean, balanced look on both sides. The whole installation went smoothly, and I was pleased I didn’t need to fall back on their customer satisfaction guarantee, which promises free rework until you’re fully happy.

They also walked me through their other services in case I needed more fencing down the line. They install timber and security fencing, plus frameless glass pool fencing if you’re after something more modern.

As for downsides, their schedule books up fast, and weekends aren’t really available. I had to wait longer than expected before I was able to secure an appointment.

Pros

  • Nearly 15 years of experience
  • Customer satisfaction guarantee
  • Offers security fencing
  • Offers frameless glass pool fencing

Cons

  • Tends to get fully booked quickly
  • Unavailable on weekends

I’m very happy with my new fence

“Lee Benson and team were fantastic, the quote was very reasonable and they were quick to respond to my emails. I’m very happy with my new fence.”

-Gloria Lloyd, Google Reviews

The fence was completed in the shortest time possible

“When getting quotes I found Lee very easy to deal with. His quote was the best price, and was very well priced compared to other quotes I sourced. Timing was very important to our neighbours because of their dogs, and Lee worked with all parties to make sure the fence was completed in the shortest time possible. The fence looks great!!! Our other neighbour also got Lee to do work for him after our job was finished.”

Looking for a unique design for your new fence? Adelaide Balustrade & Fencing might be a good option. They’ve been in the game since 1985 and offer a solid range of fencing styles, including slat fencing, pool fencing, and aluminium pickets.

I find their customisation options to be really interesting. You can pitch your own ideas, and they’ll work with you, thanks to their in-house welding and customisation setup. They also use 3D CAD drawings so you can preview the final look before anything gets built.

If you’re not sure what design you want, they’ve got ready-made designer screens that add a bit of flair and also work well for privacy. It’s a nice balance between style and function.

That said, their pricing leans higher because of the custom work. I’ve also heard they occasionally miss appointments, which can be frustrating if you’re on a tight schedule.

Pros

  • 40 years of experience
  • Custom design flexibility
  • In-house welding and fabrication
  • 3D CAD previews available
  • Designer screens for added privacy

Cons

  • Slightly above-average prices
  • Occasional missed appointments

They never fail to exceed my expectations

“I have used Adelaide Balustrade & Fencing many times over the last two decades, and they never fail to exceed my expectations. Most recently they completed a project involving replacing a single gate for a pair of swing gates (in matching style) on the busy Parade Norwood and the finished product is absolutely perfect and the installers went above and beyond for me on this tricky site.”

-Thomas McCurdy, Google Reviews

From start to finish they did a perfect job

“We had a vertical slat style fence with an entrance hinged gate, and an electric sliding gate, from start to finish they did a perfect job, 12 months later we are still loving it. I definitely recommend them”
