Pros

  • Wide variety of flavours
  • Has allergy and diet-sensitive options
  • Also sells cakes
  • Really friendly staff
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Not enough seats for dining in
  • Pricey
  • Can get crowded

Specialising in Asian gelato flavours including durian, black sesame, taro, taro and coconut, lychee, and pandan, this small ice cream and gelato place at Gouger St. is one of the local favourites.

As the name suggests, 48 Flavours have a very wide range of flavours.

Currently, the place serves over 100 varieties of dairy, sorbet, vegan, and low-fat options. This has become our favourite thing about this place.

We also appreciate that they have allergy and diet-sensitive options to serve a wider range of customers and more people get to experience the joy of a cone of ice cream and gelato.

The staff members are welcoming and friendly. They’ll help you decide by giving you an explanation of the flavours.

You’ll be less intimidated by the wide range of flavours because the staff will help you make a choice.

We were only disappointed that they don’t have enough seats at the store to accommodate customers who want to dine in. The place is relatively small, so you’ll most likely just buy a cup and then go your way.

It can also get crowded, and the line may become long. It’s one of the most popular ice cream places in the city, so a lot of people come over.

Another drawback is that their products are quite pricey. Although it can be reasonable for the quality of ice cream you’re getting, some may still think it’s too much for ice cream.

On a lighter note, they do offer gelato cakes, so you can drop by to get some. Bring them to your events, and share the delicious taste of their products!

Pros

  • Cosy ambience
  • Handcrafted gelato
  • Offers vegan options
  • Great customer service

Cons

  • Queue line can be long
  • A little pricey

It can be hard to find authentic gelato these days, as many try to use modern techniques that relatively change the taste of gelatos. Lucky for Adelaide folks, Bottega Gelateria is dedicated to bringing authentic handcrafted gelato to their cones and cups.

Bottega Gelateria makes its gelato from scratch with raw and fresh ingredients. They avoid using prepackaged frozen ingredients, artificial stabilizers or additives, and commercially prepared pastes.

This results in high-quality gelato that can make anyone who tastes it come back for more.

This, however, can also mean more pricey gelato. As they handcraft each gelato served and use high-calibre ingredients, the price is relatively steeper than in other places.

But it may be worth it. Plus the store offers a cosy ambience when you walk in!

The cream-coloured walls and the touches of wood make the place more welcoming and Instagram-worthy.

It’s also conveniently located near Henley Beach, so you can come over when the sun gets too hot.

The queue line, however, can be long at times, especially during weekends.

Pros

  • Classy ambience
  • Offers a wide range of desserts
  • Offers gluten-free options
  • Large serving

Cons

  • Slow service
  • Pricey

Desserts fanatics would absolutely love St Louis House of Fine Ice Cream and Desserts. The shop offers a wide variety of desserts, not just ice cream and gelato.

With the name “Home of Fine Ice Cream and Desserts” comes a level of pressure on the shop, and they will have to live up to it. Lucky for St Louis, though, they absolutely do!

They offer a great selection of ice cream and a relatively wide range of flavours. The ice creams are creamy and flavourful enough for you to want to buy some takehome.

They also offer gluten-free options that are just as great as the ordinary ice creams that they serve.

We also really appreciate that the servings are large. It’s always a pity when some shops serve food that’s not enough to satisfy our cravings.

The shop also has a very classy ambience. We like how clean the entire place is including the restrooms.

The service, however, needs some improvement. It sometimes takes a long while before orders are served, and some staff aren’t as accommodating as others.

The price is also a little steep, especially for the desserts like waffles and churros. So be prepared to spend a few bucks when you visit.

Pros

  • Wide variety of flavours
  • 40 years in business
  • Have dietary and allergy options
  • Offers other desserts
  • Reasonable price

Cons

  • Run-down appearance
  • Long queue and slow service

Since 1982, Royal Copenhagen has been delighting Adelaide folks with high-quality ice creams.

When Royal Copenhagen first started, they only offered one product: a giant freshly baked waffle cone containing two large scoops of Danish-style ice cream. This remains to be one of the most popular products of the shop 40 years later.

Today, the shop has created over 50 flavours and established a bunch of branches all over Australia.

Each ice cream flavour from their selection offers a different charm, and it will be really hard to choose a favourite. Trying one or two each time you come over is the only right way.

They have dietary and allergy-sensitive options, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to get anything.

We also really like how reasonable the prices are. They’re not too expensive but also not too cheap, just good enough for the quality of the ice cream.

Just note that you may encounter a long queue on your visit. It’s a favourite among locals and is located on Henley Beach, so some tourists will also come over.

Besides the long wait, we were also disappointed by the run-down appearance of the place. The interior is also a little dated.

Nonetheless, as this is only an aesthetic complaint, it doesn’t affect the quality of the ice creams, as they remain top-notch.

Pros

  • Offers other foods
  • Almost 40 years in business
  • Parking around the side
  • Reasonable price

Cons

  • Can be crowded
  • Service can be slow

If you prefer a place that serves meals and great ice cream, Pasta Deli is your best bet.

The place serves a variety of meals like soup, salad, pasta, and meat. But what we were really impressed is the quality of the ice cream that we didn’t expect from the place.

They offer a good selection of ice creams, although not as extensive as the other entries on this list. Their ice creams don’t fall behind other parlours that specialise in ice creams and gelato, which we really love.

We also like that you can get a sumptuous lunch before getting ice cream. You can come over with your family or loved ones, and you’ll have a great lunch or dinner.

The pricing for the meals and the ice creams isn’t steep, so you don’t have to worry about spending a lot.

The parking space around the area is also a great plus for Pasta Deli.

The place can accommodate a lot of diners, as opposed to other ice cream parlours that are smaller and more cramped.

It can, however, can get crowded and noisy. If you’re looking for a peaceful and quiet lunch or dinner, this might not be the best place.

Another drawback is that the service can be really slow at times. Some customers also reported that it’s hard to get the attention of the staff when the place is packed.

Overall, we think that this place is the best match for those who aren’t only looking for great ice cream but also great meals.
