- Nestled in the Adelaide Central Market

- Swift service

Cons
- Small portions
- Loud and noisy
To say that Lucia’s is a culinary heritage of Adelaide is an understatement. They have been serving authentic Italian homestyle meals since 1957.
It’s undoubtedly a part of the tradition of the Adelaide Central Market, as it’s nestled within the lively and bewildering variety of stalls of the market. This certainly is one of the locals’ and out-of-towners’ must-visit spots when they are at the market.
Frequenters mentioned that Lucia’s is the place to dine if you seek to live a few moments in Italy while being at the heart of Adelaide.
Since it is situated in a busy market, be sure to prepare yourself for long lines, especially during lunchtime. Luckily, their service is swift yet as warm and friendly as you would imagine in a long-standing family business.
The allure of Lucia’s lies in how honest and simple they are, and this is most evident in their pizza and pasta. Nothing too fancy about them, just simple yet quality ingredients combined to make good Italian comfort food.
One of our favorite things about Lucia’s is how economical the price points are for their pizzas.
This may be because they source their freshest ingredients from the very market they are situated in. Talk about strategic positioning!
However, customers were quick to notice that the crowds can be loud and noisy, which also tells us that it would be better if you will instead opt for takeaway if you like to enjoy your meals in peace.
On top of this, some customers were disappointed at how small the pizza portions are. We found that they are more generous with their pasta portions, so maybe it would be best to pair your pizzas with some pasta.
Overall, having a meal at Adelaide’s first pizza bar is something you should not pass up on. Trust us, it’s worth the trip!

Pros
- World famous pizzas by world-renowned pizza chef
- Consistent food quality
- Scenic courtyard seating
- Wide pizza selection
Cons
- Lack of training in table service
- Gluten-free option isn’t recommended
Parisi’s has been making rounds on the Internet because of their famous bologna and marinara pizzas. We decided to see what all the fuss is about, and we can delightfully confirm that it really is all that it’s hyped to be.
Parisi is a family of great renown when it comes to South Australia’s most famous Italian establishments and hospitality.
Being crowned the World’s Best Pizza Maker and Australia’s and South Australia’s Best of the Best Winner in gourmet pizza making, Andy Parisi’s mouthwatering pizzas are to die for.
Certified foodies raved about what made Parisi’s their go-to pizza place. They mentioned how the pizza toppings were not sparse, but the pie did not turn out to be such a heavy meal because of the light and crispy base.
Your dining experience is sure to be elevated if you get the chance to dine at their scenic courtyard area where you get a view of the serenity of King William Street.
To add more excitement, they have a wide selection of pizzas and they cater to all preferences without compromising on taste. It’s rare to see a restaurant maintain consistent food quality on all their menu items.
However, the service leaves a lot to be desired.
For one, their young servers are lacking proper training in table service. This is especially notable when the place is packed, as they are adamant about getting everyone’s order immediately.
In addition to this, the staff wasn’t able to effectively communicate with the customers properly to show any semblance of genuine care, especially when there was a delay in table service.
For this, we would suggest having their pizza for takeaway, especially during peak hours.
Regulars also do not recommend going for the gluten-free option for the pizza base, so you may want to steer clear of that.
In hindsight, if you’re a certified foodie just like us, you should not be missing out on Parisi’s!

Pros
- Commendable service
- Innovative in the pizza-making scene
- Generous portions
- Great dough-to-topping ratio
- Menu has flexibility for vegetarians
Cons
- Not your traditional Italian cuisine
- Expensive price point
If we’re talking about pizzas that thoroughly satisfy your pizza cravings, we cannot exclude Amalfi from the discussion.
Serving fresh Italian meals since 1981, Amalfi has cultivated a reputation as one of the most consistent pizza places and one that’s beloved by locals and out-of-towners alike.
They are also pioneers when it comes to Italian cuisine.
They invented the Spinaci Pizza, a pizza topped with spinach and pancetta. Trust us, this is a must-get from their menu!
Customers keep coming back for their ragu with veal and con pollo, but their pizza shines through always. Their pizza has generous portions but not to the point of overkill.
The dough also has a nice char, and it’s not too heavy nor does it overpower the rest of the elements on the pie.
What’s even better is they cater to people with specific dietary restrictions and preferences, like vegetarians and people with food allergies. So if you want to have your pizza made a certain way, the chef would happily oblige.
However, if you’re someone who would like strictly traditional Italian cuisine, Amalfi may not be for you.
This is because their take on some of their Italian pizzas drew influences from Chicago, Spain, and other prominent culinary regions in the world.
This is strictly preferential because if you’re someone who likes novelty and creative expression in food, you’ll love Amalfi.
In addition to this, they have an expensive price point, so be ready to shell out some money if you decide to dine here.
Overall, the value that you get with their service and exceptional pizza is always worth the visit at Amalfi!

Pros
- Multiple pizza bases to choose from
- Accommodates large groups well
- Caters to people with dietary restrictions and preferences
- Great table service
- Kid-friendly
Cons
- Can get loud and noisy
- Long waiting time
When we think of having it your way with your pizza, Tony Tomatoes instantly comes to mind. Their customization options are endless!
It can be daunting to have your pizza made a specific way, especially when you’re dining in an authentic Italian restaurant. Thankfully, the staff is more than willing to accommodate your requests and queries.
They’re also the only restaurant that offers multiple options for its pizza base. They have their 72-hour classic dough, wholemeal superleggera, and gluten-free base.
There are also so many pizzas to choose from, but their fan favorites are the Margherita and Stracciatella. We couldn’t agree more!
Tony Tomatoes can also accommodate large groups eating in very well. Some customers who frequent the restaurant are amazed at how they can accommodate groups of up to 20 people!
If you have specific dietary restrictions or preferences, you have nothing to worry about! A customer shared with us that they appreciated how their pizzas came as specifically requested: one gluten-free base while holding off on the seafood and mushrooms.
However, it can get loud and noisy because of the lively atmosphere when it gets quite busy during peak hours. So, if you’re planning on spending an intimate meal with someone, you may want to consider other places.
In addition to this, do expect a long waiting time for your meals to be served, especially during peak hours. This can be a test of patience for many.
When you’re with your kids, this can be worrisome, but in order to remedy this, the staff are so friendly and can bring out colored pencils for kids to draw on while waiting.
Their staff is also very sensitive so as not to intrude on customers who are having a good time eating and enjoying their company.
These little touches really communicate how Tony Tomatoes are dedicated to bringing genuine table service to all their customers along with their amazing pizzas.

Pros
- Exceptional wood-fired oven pizza
- Hip atmosphere
- Child-friendly place and food selections
- Great gluten-free pizza base
- Affordable pizza deals
Cons
- Limited size options
- Not ideal for large groups
Finally, it would be a crime to leave out Brasco’s Pizzeria from the discussion of the best pizzas in Adelaide because this is truly one of the locals’ go-to pizza places.
When you enter their restaurant, you will be greeted by their warm service and amazing Italian bar atmosphere.
Customers keep coming back because they always marvel at how Brasco’s put so much thought into the harmony of ingredients as opposed to just chucking in all ingredients to make as many flavors as possible.
Their dough also shines through in the pie. It has a wonderful crust on the bottom to hold the pizza together, and it also has a nice char on the edges to add complexity to the flavors of the pizza.
Unfortunately, for some, the pizza sizes can seem limited because it only comes in one size, whereas other restaurants offer larger sizes for larger groups to enjoy. Because of this, their price point may be a bit expensive considering the pie size.
According to Brasco’s, however, this is a deliberate move in order to closely monitor the consistency in quality of each pie.
Customers also noted that the place is also not ideal if you are eating in with a large group.
On the flip side, Brasco’s pizzas are also popular with kids’ tastes, especially with their Margherita pizza. This says a lot because children can tend to be picky eaters.
They also have great deals on their pizzas. They have Margherita Mondays which offers their Margherita pizza for AUD 10.
When you buy three Napoletane pizzas, you will also get another one free of charge!
