But if I’m going to do this right, I need solid gear to keep me safe and performing at my best. That’s why I recently checked out a few sporting goods stores in the city to find out where I could get top-notch equipment that won’t let me down.

If you play cricket or footy, chances are you’ve heard of The Cricket & Football Warehouse. If not, it’s worth checking out. It’s been around since 1996 and stocks heaps of gear, including cricket bats, safety pads, and footy training equipment.
The biggest thing I like is their one-year warranty. If your new bat or pair of gloves turns out to be faulty, they work with suppliers to sort it out, which takes the hassle out of it.
I also like that they run regular discounts and deals, making it easier to pick up gear at better prices. Plus, they offer ZipPay, which is handy if you don’t want to drop a heap of cash all at once.
Unfortunately, they don’t always have everything in stock, so it’s worth calling ahead to check if they’ve got what you need.

Parking is always available on the street. Not wheelchair friendly, there are stairs to get into the shop. Overall, would recommend for any players, parents or coaches for cricket equipment.”

Another shop I checked out recently is Powerhouse Sports, a store that has been a part of our city for over 30 years. They’ve got a solid range of gear and equipment for sports like tennis, cricket, footy, and netball.
But what’s interesting is they also sell custom uniforms and equipment for local clubs, including the Walkerville Football Club and the Uraidla Netball Club. I can see that as a huge plus for those who are thinking of joining one.
They also have a decent selection of sporting goods for kids, so if your little ones are keen to try a new sport, this place might be worth a visit.
The only real downside for me is their online store. While they do show what’s available, you can’t actually buy anything from their website, which feels a bit outdated and inconvenient.

As someone who values accessibility, Rebel is an easy pick. With eleven locations across the city, they’ve got gear for basketball, netball, football, and more.
I’ve visited their Rundle Mall branch a few times, and buying from them has always been straightforward. I especially like their Click and Collect service since it lets me place an order online and swing by to get my stuff during my evening commute.
It’s also nice that they provide free delivery for orders over $150. And because they have the Rebel Active membership program, it’s quite easy for me to save some money the more I shop here.
Sadly, I’ve had a few less-than-pleasant encounters with their staff, which makes me hesitate to become a true regular.

If you’re a golfer and don’t feel like dropping a fortune on gear, Golf Clearance Outlet in Croydon is worth a visit. It’s not some fancy, high-end showroom; it’s a straightforward golf shop where you can dig through racks of clubs, bags, and balls without feeling pressured to splurge.
What’s cool is that even though their prices are already competitive, they still have a price match guarantee. If you spot the same product cheaper elsewhere, they’ll match it.
It’s also worth mentioning that they have the GCO Live membership program. It’s $19.99 a year and gets you discounts plus weekly prize draws. Not bad if you’re planning on shopping there regularly.
That said, they only stock golf gear, so if you’re after anything outside the sport, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

SportsPower is another store that’s easy to find, with eight locations across Adelaide. They’ve got basketball shoes, cricket bats, football boots, and all the usual gear for different sports.
Like the other shop I mentioned, they offer Click and Collect, which is handy if you don’t have time to browse in-store. They also have the Fan Club, a newsletter that gives members access to exclusive discounts and special deals.
What I really like, though, is their partnership with TreadLightly, a national recycling program for footwear. Just drop off your old sneakers at any of their stores, and they’ll be repurposed into flooring for gyms and playgrounds.
Of course, they’re not perfect. Some of their prices run higher than other retailers’, and their return policy is frustrating. You can only return items to the specific store you bought them from, which isn’t always convenient.
