My friend, who got married last year, suggested Unveil The Beauty to me. This is where she got her bridal makeup done, and actually, I was the one who caught her bouquet toss. So, I guess this is really the sign I am next!

My friend trusted them because they were awarded in 2021 by ABIA Weddings Australia. Knowing they have accolades from Australia’s wedding industry directory and awards body assured me they can match my makeup vision for my wedding day.

My friend liked it here because their services are queer-friendly. They shared that she and her wife felt comfortable with their makeup artists.

But I was informed during my appointment that I have to book soon. This is because it could be difficult to secure a slot due to demand. They also mostly focused on brides and may be unable to cater to bridesmaids.

Made us feel like a million bucks

I next checked out JAG Studio and resident makeup artist Kiara through a consultation I booked online. Unfortunately, her services strictly follow appointment-based sessions and may be unavailable for sudden requests or walk-ins.

What I liked about Kiara’s services is that she is open to catering to my bridesmaids, my mother, and my mother-in-law-to-be. She could even include my VIP guest list! She has group appointments available for booking for up to 6 people.

Plus, Kiara has a step-by-step guide, starting from a trial makeup application, testing products for allergy triggers, and a makeup schedule on the wedding day itself. 

This made me feel less nervous about how I will look on my special day! I don’t have to worry if my sensitive skin will suddenly get rashes from brushes.

However, because they are appointment-based, it would be difficult for me to ask for any sudden follow-ups or discussions.

I consulted with Chloe Ellouise, whose makeup business is located in Pulteney Street. When I asked why she chose this and operated with The Society & Co in Adelaide’s CBD, it was because she wanted her services to be more accessible.

Moreover, she’s been around since 2010!

I mentioned how my soon-to-be husband and I are still confused about other aspects of our wedding. Luckily, she has partner venues, videographers, and flower arrangement services. That would help with our search!

However, her services focused less on group appointments, and her business is closed from Sunday to Tuesday. This clashed with my fiancé’s schedule, who’s only free on Sundays.

For my wedding, I want my makeup to have a flawless, smooth finish. What I liked about Sonja Maree, upon inquiry about her services, is that she specialises in airbrush quality makeup. With this style, I am confident my blemishes and uneven skin tone would not appear on camera!

I could also choose the makeup she will use on me and my bridesmaids. She has group appointments and trial makeup sessions open. Some of my bridesmaids are more tanned than I, so it’s nice to know she can shade match!

A few days after our appointment, I had some follow-up questions about her services. I was impressed with how quickly she answered! 

Her operating hours from Monday to Sunday are convenient if I, my bridesmaids, or guests of honour have makeup concerns.

However, I’m concerned that she highlights her airbrush look, so she may be limited in other makeup and hairstyles. I have a different makeup style in mind for my mother.

Upon initial consultation with Natasha Martin, I was impressed that she’s available to handle my makeup requests, plus my bridesmaids and VIP guests.

She can customise her styling to our needs because she’s experienced in fair and tan-skinned, European and Asian makeup styles! I can recommend her to my groom’s mother, who is Filipino, because she’s also open to group appointments.

Moreover, she has a degree in makeup artistry from Russia and has worked in the film and fashion industries. My makeup will not look greasy or uneven in photographs with her technique!

However, her pricing may be steep for my wedding’s budget, with $260 only for the trial. Though I understand she has a diverse makeup range for all skin types, hair types, and ethnicities, this may not be for brides like me operating on a tight budget.
