In fact, my phone’s gallery was overflowing with photos of their soft-furred sheep and donkeys after my visit.

They have a well-crafted tour for families, including a thrilling pony ride and a cozy tractor ride. With the latter, you can tour the farm all while in the cool and comforting shade of the tractor.

Pro tip: The view from their barbecue spot is stunning! Bring your turkeys, ribs, and briskets so you’ll have something to munch on during lunch.

The Food Forest

What made my trip to The Food Forest a memorable experience was the highly informative educational tour led by the owner. They’re down-to-earth and very hospitable people who are ready to share any gardening tips.

During the tour, I learned about the inspiring story of the Brookman family and how their expertise in permaculture resulted in the cultivation of over 150 varieties of delicious and healthy fruits, vegetables, nuts, and more.

It’s any vegan cook’s dream, and just thinking of the various dishes I can create with the ingredients makes my mouth water!

Pro tip: When they say that it’s an educational tour, they really mean it! You may hear a lot of agricultural terms for the first time, so don’t forget to take notes.

If you’re a jam lover, a visit to Beerenberg Family Farm is an absolute must! The farm reigns as one of the largest jam producers in Adelaide, and the experience of picking succulent strawberries amidst their sun-kissed fields is simply delightful.

If you get tired after a whole afternoon of strawberry picking, you can always wind down in their cozy farm cafe. My sweet tooth was definitely satisfied with their hearty servings of waffles and shakes!

With plenty of blooming flowers and herbs, my trip to Jurlique Farm made me feel as if I were in a Jane Austen novel.

It was simply marvelous to see the extraordinary effort they apply to make sure that their manufacturing stays sustainable and all-natural. The meticulous care they put into every plant ignited in me a newfound appreciation for the skincare products I use daily.

They also provided samples of their plants, such as the rose and the calendula. I got to smell them while feasting my eyes on the beautiful panorama of the farm.

Pro tip: There are plenty of bees on the farm because they’re the main pollinators of the plants that Jurlique uses as ingredients. Be sure to move gently when they’re around so as to not scare them.

Wagtail Urban Farms

Website: https://wagtailurbanfarm.wordpress.com/
Address: 2C Thirza Ave, Mitchell Park SA 5043, Australia

Wagtail Urban Farm introduced me to the marvels of a microscale market garden. It reminded me of the lush gardens in The Hobbit because even though it was small, every inch was teeming with succulent fruits and vegetables ready for picking.

Their team is composed mostly of volunteers who have a great love for growing their own food. You can get many tips to hone your gardening skills from them.

Here, I was guided through the garden that featured many plants, such as tomatoes, spinach, and cabbages. The whole time I was there, I was thinking of creative ways to mix and match these to create a perfect salad.

Pro tip: The farm is just 10 kms away from the city center, so it’s easy to drop by in case you want a haul of fresh produce. You can also check out their much larger farm, the Village Greens of Willunga Creek, which houses more than 150 vegetable varieties.

Ivybrook Farm is one of Adelaide’s most scenic gems, often chosen as the idyllic backdrop for outdoor weddings.

It’s an amazing place for a relaxing farm stay because there’s plenty to see, such as a scenic winter creek, a stone barn that was built in the 1890s, and a charmingly rustic cellar door.

It’s best to tour Ivybrook while staying in their cozy accommodation. Then you’ll have all the time to wander around the 40 acres of this picturesque farm.

For a truly cozy experience, I highly recommend indulging in their delightful bottles of Shiraz and Grenache.

Pro tip: It’s a great idea to visit Ivybrook during Twilight Fridays (5 PM to 9 PM), as the atmosphere of the farm perfectly matches the acoustic music of the regular performers. With wood fires, pizza, and wine, the place is perfect for a date night!
