Pros
- Wide range of martial arts classes provided
- Experienced instructors
- Has trained many successful athletes
- Accessible location
Cons
- Limited schedules available
- Outdated facilities
Nino Pilla International Academy of Martial Arts stands out due to the wide range of classes they offer. They include popular styles such as kung fu, taekwondo, and muay thai, while also providing unique options like jeet kune do and Maphilindo silat.
The best part is that you can learn multiple martial arts styles within your lessons. According to many of their clients, they blend these styles in a way that is easy to learn.
It’s also worth noting that their instructors have at least a decade of experience. They are known for being straightforward, professional, and courteous to their students.
A particular specialty of theirs is teaching kickboxing, which is evident in the success of many athletes who have trained with their instructors.
Their location on King William Street makes them one of the most accessible martial arts schools in Adelaide.
However, one significant drawback is their limited schedule. They only hold classes after 6 PM.
Additionally, there is room for improvement in terms of their facilities, as they appear outdated in both design and integrity.

Pros
- Instructors teach a wide variety of martial arts styles
- Lessons encompass martial arts skills and personality development
- Can cater to children with special needs
- Facilities are well-maintained
Cons
- Small classrooms
- Student-to-teacher ratio is big (about 25:1)
Crocodile Martial Arts Australia is remarkable due to the diverse experiences of its instructors. Most of them have undergone decades of international training in popular martial arts disciplines and lesser-known ones, such as eskrima and kali.
In my experience, they are one of the most organized with arranging schedules and processing payments, which may be attributed to the fact that their staff is among the largest.
I also noticed that they have dedicated staff for administrative tasks, which is always a plus.
Now about their lessons, I found that they handle both children and adult lessons well. They have lesson plans tailored to different age groups, which also encompass personality development.
One particular review of their service that solidified their expertise for me is from one parent who said that their child, who has ADHD, was well-engaged and interested in all their sessions.
She also said that the coaches made sure to provide proper attention and care to her child.
Their classroom is well-equipped with clean mats, training dummies, and well-maintained washrooms.
However, one minor downside is that their classrooms are relatively small. Moreover, their class sizes tend to be large, resulting in a large student-to-teacher ratio (approximately 25:1).

Pros
- Can train many age groups and skill levels
- Well-qualified instructors with long years of experience and many achievements
- Small teacher-to-student ratio
- Facilities and equipment (floor mats, protective gears, etc.) are up-to-date
Cons
- Pricey
- Has received complaints about rude receptionists
Adelaide Taekwondo Academy is commendable for the broad range of skills and ages they cater to. They can teach children as young as 4 years old, while also providing training for those who want to pursue an athletic career.
The qualifications of their instructors are exemplary, with many of them having decades of teaching experience. Notably, the studio’s owner, Ruth Hock, was a shadow team member for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
It’s also great that they have young teachers on their team, as it helps children easily adjust to the classes.
With small class sizes, you can expect to receive more personalized attention from the teachers. I heard from students that they take time in addressing the specific weaknesses of every student.
Furthermore, they do not disappoint when it comes to facilities and equipment. From training mats to protective gear, everything is up-to-date.
It’s just disappointing, though, that their rates are some of the priciest. Also, I noticed that they’ve received complaints about their rude receptionist.

Pros
- Child-friendly
- Head instructor is great with handling children
- Good with providing instructions for parents
- Many of their students have been enrolled for more than 5 years
Cons
- Large student-to-teacher ratio
- Team of instructors is smaller compared to other classes in Adelaide
As its name suggests, MASA Kidz Club is one of the most child-friendly martial arts classes in Adelaide.
During interviews with their clients, I discovered that their instructors invest time in thoroughly understanding each child’s personality before accepting them into the program.
This approach helps create a comfortable environment in the classroom, as many parents can attest to. Their children often speak highly of their teachers, which can be attributed to the instructors’ training in personality development.
I’ve heard much praise for their head instructor too, specifically for how well he can adapt to different children’s personalities.
He’s also good with providing parents with instructions on how to prepare the children to ensure their safety for the training.
I also noticed that most of their students have been taking lessons in the school for more than 5 years. It’s a great sign that they’re great at maintaining professional relationships with their students.
From what I’ve seen, a downside with them is their large student-to-teacher ratio, which is usually at 30:1. Also, their team of instructors is smaller compared to others in Adelaide.

Pros
- Has defense classes made specifically for children and women
- Membership deals offer great value
- Comprehensive facilities and gear (such as training rooms, washrooms, and defensive gear
- Accessible location
Cons
- Has received complaints for teaching complicated lessons to beginners
- Operating hours are inconsistent
ISOHEALTH offers some of the best defense classes specifically designed for children and women. They provide female-only environments and situation-based training.
These classes are quite affordable, making them accessible for those who only require a short-term course.
Speaking of price, their membership deals are a great bargain, particularly their Unlimited Membership, which includes a strength and conditioning course, ensuring participants stay in top shape.
Additionally, their facility is well-equipped, boasting over 160 square meters of training space, an MMA cage, and modern washroom facilities.
I was particularly impressed with their training gear, which includes training knives, Smak-sticks, kick shields, and focus mitts.
Because their location is at Torrensville, it’s just 5 minutes from the CBD, making it highly accessible.
However, a notable downside is that they have received complaints about teaching advanced lessons even to beginners. This has caused some past clients to withdraw early on.
Also, their operating hours are inconsistent, as they sometimes start at 6 PM (Mondays) or 9 AM (Saturdays).
