The Best Preschools in Adelaide Shaping Young Minds
Babies are wired to learn from day one. In the first years alone, over a million neural connections are formed per second.
Sending your child to preschool (or letting them experience these top toddler activities) makes sense given that info. Early growth in areas such as cognition, skill, independence, and social growth can have long-term effects, after all.
Research backs that up, as 80% of Australian children attend preschool before starting formal school, and the majority benefited from improved developmental outcomes.
The question is, do you know which schools in the city can help achieve those results? Don’t worry. We found the best preschools in Adelaide for you.

Families seeking a well-rounded space will find one at City West Child Care Centre.
See, the preschool offers structured learning and play-based growth, all while serving as a long day care provider. We reckon busy parents will find that handy.
It’s even open to little ones from six weeks old to school age, so you don’t have to switch places throughout your child’s early years.
Every room is also purpose-built. For example, the rooms for sensory exploration, numeracy development, and literacy training are separate.
Most of all, holistic childcare is where they base programs and classroom structure. Thanks to a multicultural and qualified staff, children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
City West’s smaller setup is a minor drawback, though. Slots are limited, and we’ve seen options with more expansive play areas (these playgrounds don’t have that con!).
Not saying theirs is bad, especially with the communal, nature-themed setup.
Great Place
My child was here for 1.5 years, and this was the first time he was away from us during the day. The staff navigated the initial days very well, and he adjusted pretty quickly, and he even wanted to go to school on Sundays 🙂 He would share everything he would do at school and would try things out of similar nature at home as well, like making the soup he had for lunch.
Well-experienced staff with multicultural backgrounds, very helpful and flexible with amendments. Would highly recommend City West CCC, such a great place for the little ones to explore and grow. Thank you City West educators and staff for the wonderful service you are providing! Keep it up <3

Great Communal Play Area
Lovely childcare centre – have experienced every room now -from baby to preschool. Low turnover rate of staff who all care and pay attention to the wellbeing and development of the children. There are a lot of siblings across the centre and has a multicultural focus. Nutritious food cooked for the centre children, and opportunity for little ones to explore cooking, arts and lots of learning through play and opportunities to explore independence and risky play. Flexible on additional day requests too. Cute garden and great communal play area. Thorough centre policies which help ensure consistency of care.

Edge Early Learning’s Teach A Rainbow program contributes to early development and school readiness.
Guided by a university-qualified teacher and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the approach is both inquiry- and play-based, covering 11 areas. Among those domains are STEM, literacy, numeracy, creative arts, and social-emotional development.
Adding to that, a nurturing staff manages day-to-day operations. Students often come home in great spirits, while parents love that updates are kept timely (often shared through photos).
Travel time should be taken into account, however, chiefly if you’re based in the Adelaide CBD. It’s nearly a 30-minute drive.
You’re also looking at higher daily fees, so there’s that.
Good thing several perks come with the costs. An on-site chef prepares meals daily, and the model is all-inclusive, supplying children with items such as nappies, wipes, sunscreen, and bedding.
Loving Environment
We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful care our daughter receives at Edge Early Learning Port Adelaide. From day one, the staff made us feel welcome and reassured. The educators are kind, patient, and genuinely nurturing—it’s clear they truly love working with children. Our little one always comes home happy and full of stories. We’ve seen amazing progress in her speech, confidence, and social skills. Thank you for creating such a warm, supportive, and loving environment!

Very Friendly
My daughter was about 9 or 10 months when she started here, back when it was Paisley Park and she was there right through and has now started school this year. We were so happy with the care given to her at Edge. When any concerns were had about things communication was very good and I was made to feel heard and it seemed to be taken on board. The educators are very friendly and the director Puja is extremely wholesome and welcoming and they all have the utmost care for your little ones and will make sure they’re taken well care of. Kerry the chef there curates and cooks a great range of balanced and fresh delicious foods for the kids and takes on suggestions and dietary needs or beliefs and make great alternatives to suit, as well as makes the effort to bond with the kids and talk with the parents as they walk through everyday. Was very happy leaving our daughter in their care for many years. 💕

Little ones who learn through engaging activities will most likely thrive at Guardian Childcare & Education. From the parents we messaged, this preschool favours fun and child-focused experiences over supervised teaching.
Having one of the biggest outdoor play areas in Adelaide’s western suburbs certainly helps. Your kiddo can dabble with bed creeks, bike racks, gardens, and open zones for exploration.
Above all, our respondents have noted progress in their child’s habits, confidence, and language skills. The Education Standards Board has awarded Guardian the Exceeding rating (which means they exceeded the NQS), so we’re not surprised.
One minor hiccup is that some options are closer to the city centre. This one is a 15-minute drive away.
But the real snag? Some parents weren’t fond of the recent changes to breakfast hours and the removal of dinner service, particularly with how abrupt they were.
The educators take good care of the little ones
It’s gonna be almost a year my little one has been attending this institution and it’s been one off the best experience for her growing up years. The educators take good care of the little one’s with a personalised interaction on a daily basis. A close bond is formed. Overall a good change will be noticed in the little one from the get go , good habits and self confidence.

My granddaughter is developing so very well.
My granddaughter attends Export Park, and has done so since she was 5 months old. She is thriving. She loves going to school, and the educators are some of the most important people in her life. They are creative, really child-focussed, and kind, so very kind. They model excellent behaviour and are skilled at teaching important age appropriate concepts. My granddaughter is developing so very well.

What separates the City Community Children’s Centre from other picks is its community-based, not-for-profit model, which has been in place since 1987.
The relationship-based care system is unique, too. A primary carer is assigned to each toddler and baby, ensuring consistency and helping build trust.
Unsurprisingly, the school’s facilities aren’t as modern or high-end as those of others. Space is relatively limited as well.
Some may also find the 6 pm closing time a tad early. Every preschool above shuts down at 6:30 pm.
We have no grumbles with the atmosphere, though. The staff is said to be genuinely caring, while the overall vibe is often labelled as inclusive and homely.
That doesn’t suggest the curriculum lacks structure. Everything is still grounded in the EYLF, with classroom sizes kept small and play-based learning at the core.
My daughter had a lovely time here.
Hands down the best childcare in Adelaide. My daughter had a lovely time here. The place was so homely and everyone working here is just amazing. Deb, the director, Veronica, the educators Anja, Manju, Ria, Shino, and all the staff are so loving and caring towards my daughter during her stay. They value your child’s safety and happiness. I highly recommend them.

A Beacon of Warmth
I can’t overemphasise the love and care that the staff and community at City Community Children’s Centre have given our son over the past twelve months. The centre is a beacon of warmth, joy, compassion and kindness and we feel incredibly lucky to be able to be a part of it. From the moment we stepped inside on our first tour, we knew it was where we wanted our son to go. We feel very fortunate to have found the centre and deeply grateful to all the staff there for making City Community Children’s Centre such an outstanding environment for learning and care.

As the name suggests, Gatehouse follows Montessori principles. That means children grow through self-directed and hands-on activities, allowing them to explore at their own pace.
Collaboration is still very much valued, don’t get us wrong. In fact, they have mixed-age classrooms where older children may guide younger ones while learning about their backgrounds, talents, interests, etc.
Just remember that grading isn’t the basis of assessments here. Attention is placed on tracking individual progress, which is then communicated to parents via conferences.
Gatehouse may not be the most economical pick for budget-conscious parents either. Montessori schools tend to cost more than traditional ones, so that’s no surprise.
On the upside, we can’t say the exxy rates don’t come with positive results. Many parents reported progress in areas such as literacy, confidence, independence, communication, practical life skills, and even mood.
It’s been a wonderful experience
We’ve been so happy with GateHouse Montessori! Prem and the team are incredibly caring and dedicated to each child’s growth. Our daughter is thriving in their warm and nurturing environment, and we love the Montessori approach that allows her to learn at her own pace. It’s been a wonderful experience, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Highly recommend! ❤️

Gatehouse Montessori is the best!
We are so incredibly happy we made the switch to Gatehouse Montessori. At our little one’s previous daycare, she rarely laughed wholeheartedly. Being naturally quiet and cautious, she needs more individual guidance—but we often felt she was overlooked. Every day at pick-up, she seemed withdrawn. So we moved her to Gatehouse Montessori on our friends’ recommendation, and the difference was immediate. Her personality isn’t just respected here; it’s also nurtured – the educators have given her the gentle guidance she needs, and the other children have welcomed her so warmly. She now becomes so happy and confident, and I’m so proud of that moment to hear her name each of the educators and say “teachers are my friends!” It’s clear she feels seen, loved, and valued here. Thank you for creating such a wonderful environment. You are doing an amazing job. Gatehouse Montessori is the best!!!
