The best golf coaches in Adelaide are game-changing!

  • Experience: We opted for pros with at least 10 years of coaching experience, confirmed through CVs, profiles, and membership reviews. Higher scores were given to those with more.
  • Scope: By looking into portfolios, service listings, and interviews, the team identified which candidates usually accept students of every level or age. Lesson format and package/course variety also influenced the grades.
  • Communication Skills: We relied on interviews, personal experience, feedback, case studies, and forums to select coaches who adapt their teaching style to a student’s level. Additionally, the criterion was used to rate general communication skills, including responsiveness, politeness, and active listening.
  • Credentials: Only accredited coaches were chosen, with official bodies and clubs like the PGA of Australia serving as our sources. Those who’ve performed well in opens, tours, invitationals, and championships received top marks.
  • Pricing: Thirty-minute, hourly and bundled rates were assessed to determine whether they’re proportional to the overall value. We also considered Adelaide’s standard coaching fees and the gear or facilities that come with a lesson.

Adam Scott’s 2013 Masters victory was the moment that gave me the golf bug. The problem was, I didn’t even know the proper stance then!

Lucky for me, though, a mate who frequents public golf courses suggested booking lessons with his coach. Slowly but surely, I saw improvements.

And that’s the thing: a quality coach can sharpen anyone’s game. Even Tiger Woods had Butch Harmon and Hank Haney in his corner.

If you also want to improve your swing, some of Adelaide’s most flexible and seasoned coaches are down here, so you no longer have to waste hours scouring hundreds of reviews.

Simon MacWhirter calls the shots at Better Golf. His qualifications include a PGA Professional-Advanced in Coaching, as well as 10-plus years of coaching experience.

Those we chatted with praised his teaching style most, claiming it’s relaxed and personalised. Several also noted his skill in identifying which areas require improvement.

His frame-by-frame video analysis helps with that. Flaws invisible at full speed show up on camera, and feedback is often sent within 48 hours.

Online coaching through Zoom and the CoachNow app makes Simon more adaptable. Virtual lessons even come free for those who don’t improve by the sixth shot.

Elite golfers may find someone more suitable, though. This one mainly deals with club-level players and beginners.

Securing a spot could be tight as well. Sessions don’t run daily, and Simon is Better Golf’s only coach.

Pros

  • PGA Professional-Advanced in Coaching certification
  • Started coaching in 2010
  • Offers group coaching
  • Flexible learning formats

Cons

  • Doesn’t usually teach high-level players
  • One-coach setup

Highly Skilled

I have been attending Simon’s lessons with a friend and have found them invaluable. We have both taken up golf in retirement. We either attend Par 3 at North Adelaide or the Drummond Golf Range. Simon is patient and is highly skilled in diagnosing exactly where my games needs improvement. He provides detailed specific feedback. I have found it particularly useful when he videos me attempting a shot and we can then view it with demonstrations of how I can improve, using features with Simon’s golf app. He never overloads me with too much to concentrate on but gives me 2 or 3 things to be conscious of in future golf practice. I am grateful for his calm feedback and encouragement. It has helped my friend and I to remain positive, particularly when he gently reminds us how far we have come in the last 12 months. I would highly recommend Simon.

I’ve improved so much

I started golf lessons with Simon a year ago together with my three sisters-in-law, completing four lesson blocks and continuing with fortnightly sessions ever since. Simon is an incredibly patient and supportive golf coach. I’ve improved so much since starting, and I genuinely look forward to each lesson. I keep coming back because I’m hooked on improving my game!

Simon is flexible with where we train, whether it’s the driving range or the par-3 course, and he always tailors the lesson to what we need. I highly recommend Simon to anyone looking for a skilled, encouraging, and reliable golf coach.

Tracked Golf is a prime choice if you’d rather master the basics before braving the elements.

The coaches inside are seasoned and decorated. Matt Antell, for one, has a 20-year resume and holds PGA Advanced Professional, TrackMan, SportsBox 3D, and TPI certifications.

Enhancing his outcomes is the venue’s tech. TrackMan HD cameras are installed and synced to a player’s phone, allowing for instant feedback on speed, launch angle, club path, and spin.

A drawback is that you must be a member to enjoy round-the-clock access. Tracked Golf’s staff packs up at 10 pm.

Then there’s the indoor setting. You could argue that outdoor courses provide a more authentic experience.

If you’re fine with virtual links, well, they have 400-plus global options (these indoor golf clubs are worth a look, too)!

The fun yet professional atmosphere might also be a difference maker for some, especially for groups seeking discounted rates or golf-themed functions with coaching.

Pros

  • PGA-accredited coaches
  • Tech-savvy facility
  • Group discounts
  • Can host competitions

Cons

  • Only 24/7 for members
  • Indoors only

The facilities are great

Coach Matt is great for all golfers looking to learn golf or wanting to improve their game. The facilities are great and good atmosphere. With the use of Trackman, lesson analysis are immediate feedback to the student. All-in-all, great place and it’s open 24/7.

Very Friendly

Very nice vicinity to practise and play Golf!! Would recommend coming here if you are alone just wanting to practise or with friends to have some fun. The application is very simple to use and provides insightful feedback to your skills.

Good lighting, clean area and overall aesthetics are on point! There are 2 normal Sets of clubs, 1 set of children’s and left handed that you can borrow which I think is great if you just wanted to drop by.

The staff here is very friendly and would be more than happy to help with everything!

Adam Bland’s 20-year career is hard to miss. That’s especially true if you watched him win in the WA PGA (2005) and the Canadian Golf Tour (2007–2008).

As a coach, communication is one of his major assets. One common feedback is how meticulous he is in understanding issues and simplifying lessons.

Sessions are also customised, though 9-hole playing lessons for practical, on-course experience are his speciality.

What’s neat is that video analysis is still employed. According to students, the feature reviews problems and resolves them using targeted drills.

No wonder Adam’s students tend to stick around; some have stayed for 2–3 years or more!

Lessons slots, however, are quite limited. You only have Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays as options.

And he operates solo, so it’s best to book ahead.

The upside is that he can manage group sessions, and they’re generally priced reasonably at $200 for 4 hours.

Pros

  • Winning PGA player
  • 20-plus years of experience
  • Specialises in 9-hole lessons
  • Clients usually stay for years

Cons

  • Only available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays
  • One-coach setup

Adam has been my coach for the last 2 years and his dedication to my golf progress is incredible. I have been to many coaches over the last 20 years and can say that Adam is the best. Being one of SA’s highest performing tour pro’s ever, he brings a unique insight in how to play the game and perform under pressure. Cannot recommend him more highly

Very Informative

I’ve been having lessons with Adam for many years now. Each lesson is very informative and he goes that extra mile to show you video of drills to do after the lesson has finished. His ability to understand your swing and ways to improve your game is amazing and my game has improved so much since seeing him regularly!

Being the city’s first 24/7 indoor practice hub, Adelaide Golf Studio deserves its spot here.

Sarah King, the PGA professional and TPI-certified coach, only seals it. Her coaching career kicked off in 2014, and since then, she has gained accolades like the Game Development’s SA Coach of the Year Award (2021).

In terms of character, most clients describe her as personable and patient. By “clients,” we mean juniors, women, and elites.

Adults, however, pay $160 per hour, which is pricier than most.

And as with TrackedGolf, this one remains indoors. It’s convenient and cosy, sure, but real-world conditions are missing.

On the upside, the tech game is strong, thanks to TrackMan. You can even play on simulation courses, including iconic spots like Pebble Beach and St Andrew’s.

Adelaide Golf Studio isn’t stingy with seasonal, membership, group discounts, and free trials either.

Pros

  • PGA pro and award-winning coach
  • Free 30-minute trial
  • Tech-savvy facility
  • Seasonal discounts

Cons

  • Indoors only
  • Slightly pricier adult lessons

Patient

Went for an introduction lesson with Coach Sarah. She was patient and addressed what was necessary to improve golf. Nice open studio with great facilities.

David Vincent Daniel, Google Review

Clean and Tidy

Great setup to practice your game, easy to use facilities and always clean and tidy. I enjoy attending the studio more than just heading to a driving range. Loads of different practice formats available on the Trackman to dial in every aspect of your game.

Sarah is also a great coach, my game has improved out of sight in the 6 months I’ve been using the Studio.

I highly recommend Adelaide Golf Studio if you’re looking to improve your Golf.

Jon White of Easy Swing Golf has over 20 years of experience to match his AAA accreditation.

What’s truly special about him, though, is that he knows how to make golf fun and accessible. His methods are often seen as easy-to-follow, encouraging, informative, relaxed, and pragmatic.

That’s one reason his clientele is so varied. I mean, even students as young as 4 years old seem to enjoy his classes.

The catch? Jon may not be the top pick for those looking to master a specific swing style. Helping students learn fundamentals and play their natural game is his specialty (that, and busting golf myths).

His popularity could also pose scheduling hurdles. Again, he draws in golfers of all levels and ages.

One way to avoid that is by opting for the 6-week group coaching program. It tackles fundamentals and lessons for home or office practice, all for just $300.

Pros

  • AAA accreditation
  • Coaching for over 20 years
  • Accessible and fun lessons
  • Reasonably priced 6-week program

Cons

  • Doesn’t focus on a particular swing style
  • High demand

Fun Environment

Jon is by far the most attentive and nurturing golf coach we’ve come across. Our 4 year loves his lessons with Jon. A wealth of experience and a fun environment is the perfect mix.

Lauren de J, Google Review

I would highly recommend Jon

Jon is the greatest golf coach imaginable! I’ve never been good at sports but I wanted to learn golf for fitness and fun. Jon has taught me the skills to play and I enjoy a lesson with him regularly to further enhance my game. My husband has also had lessons to improve his technique and has learnt a great many tips and tricks from Jon. Both my husband and I would highly recommend Jon to anyone learning or wanting to improve their game
