5 Best Marriage Counsellors in Adelaide

The 5 Best Marriage Counsellors in Adelaide

Qualifications. Marriage counseling needs many years of experience and formal training to be done right. We prefer counselors with a diploma in counseling to establish their credibility.

Quality of counseling. We checked how well they listen to couples, their professionalism, and the way they communicate with clients.

Affordability. As counseling is done over several sessions, it’s important for their fees to stay affordable for frequent sessions.

Location. We believe that having a good location makes attending regular sessions easier. In addition, having online therapy options is also appreciated.

  • Straightforward yet compassionate

Cons

  • Usually fully booked
  • Pricey

Ros Yuen Psychology Couples Counseling specializes in couple conflict management. She has spent years helping clients from different age groups, careers, and situations with a good success rate.

She’s qualified for the job given her extensive education and her membership in various psychological organizations in Australia. This includes the Australian Psychological Society, the Psychology Board of Australia, and more.

One of her best treatments used is the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which has been extensively supported by research.

In addition, she has specific methods for dealing with narcissistic relationships, issues of same-sex couples, and issues related to parenting.

Her experience can be seen in how well she can guide couples on their first visit. You’ll feel well-guided because of her straightforward yet compassionate approach.

However, one of the downsides with her is that she’s usually fully booked because of high demand.

Aside from this, her fees, which start at $290, may not be the most affordable for everyone.

Pros

  • Highly experienced practitioner
  • Uses hypnosis and meditation techniques
  • Affordable
  • Uses a person-centered approach

Cons

  • Far from Adelaide CBD
  • Therapy takes some time to fully work

Counseling and Conflict Management is led by Patrick Moloney, who has great experience in family mediation, couple counseling, and child counseling.

He has been a counselor since 2007, making him an experienced counselor. He primarily uses a person-centered approach, which promotes mindfulness and independent thinking techniques.

The foundation of his therapy is Carl Rogers’ psychological principles, which are notable for being person-centered and applicable to many.

In addition, he uses hypnosis and meditation techniques for clients. This is helpful for cases of anxiety, stress, and anger.

At $100 per hour, he is one of the most affordable options for relationship counseling in Australia. You may also be qualified for BUPA coverage when availing of his service.

That said, one downside is that he is based in Port Noarlunga. The clinic is about 30 minutes away from the central market.

Aside from this, his therapy method usually takes time to fully help clients. Still, his track record shows that it’s a great investment in the long run for couples.

Pros

  • More than 27 years of experience
  • Familiar with palliative care, aged care, and meditation
  • Good for professionals
  • Easy to coordinate with for virtual sessions

Cons

  • Not available 3 days a week
  • Often fully booked days in advance

Pam Mitchell has more than 27 years of experience, making her one of the most qualified counselors in Adelaide.

She’s a member of many reputable organizations in Australia, including the Australian Counseling Association and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Notably, she’s worked with clients of a wide age range of clients. She’s also skilled in palliative care, meditation, and aged care.

We especially recommend her for couples who work as professionals, as she has provided service for many of these in her career.

It’s easy to set up a virtual call with her either through Skype or Facetime. She’s responsive to calls and emails, which is always appreciated.

Plus, her location is easily accessible because it is near Heywood Park, the University of Adelaide Waite Campus, and Ashford Hospital.

However, from what we’ve seen, a minor downside with her is that she isn’t available three days per week. Still, her long operating hours somehow make up for this.

Aside from this, she’s often fully booked days in advance. Be sure to make an appointment, as she doesn’t accept walk-in sessions.

Pros

  • Employs many therapy methods
  • Uses Level 2 Gottman Couples Therapy Method
  • Comfortable and spacious clinic
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Pricey fees
  • Long waiting times

Inspire Change Counseling’s strength lies in the great number of therapy methods they can provide. It is led by Megan Thomas, who has decades of experience in counseling.

She currently has a Level 2 certification under the Gottman Institute’s Couples Therapy. This method is supported by research and is said to be helpful in saving marriages on the verge of divorce.

Aside from this, they offer Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This makes them compatible with cases of trauma and anxiety.

We commend the design of their clinic because it is comfortable and spacious. As the environment plays a big part in the success of therapy sessions, this is commendable.

Its location on Commercial Road makes it easy to visit. The clinic is also open from Monday to Saturday, making it compatible with many clients with busy schedules.

If there’s anything we didn’t like about the clinic, one is that their fees are pricey. It’s best to prepare your budget before availing of their service.

Aside from this, the waiting times between their clients are a bit long, based on what we’ve seen.
