The best psychotherapists in Adelaide heal through compassionate and research-based care!

  • Experience: The team prioritised centres with nearly 5 years of experience in treating several psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. To verify, we used CVs, feedback, personal encounters, and interviews.
  • Communication Skills: Test calls and interviews helped us gauge a therapist’s interpersonal and general communication skills, like how well they could explain symptoms, plans, and progress in the patient’s language. Past that, we graded the staff’s response speed, proactivity, and courteousness.
  • Flexibility: Therapists who adapt their methods and don’t follow a rigid schedule or meeting format scored higher. We determined that using testimonials and service descriptions.
  • Credentials: Only licensed professionals who employ research-based methods were selected, with degrees, certifications, professional memberships, and evidence of ongoing training as our basis. Awards and research contributions were also considered.
  • Pricing: Session costs relative to the length, experience, practitioner qualifications, and treatment quality allowed us to assess value for money, along with transparency and Adelaide-friendly pricing.

Living with trauma, anxiety, depression, or any deep-seated mental issue takes a real toll. You don’t have to face it alone and unsupported, though.

Across Adelaide, PACFA-registered psychotherapists offer evidence-based care grounded in compassion.

The names below are some of the standouts. They’ve helped individuals and couples build healthier patterns over time, no matter how complex or severe their problem was.

Wellness & Healing Psychology & Counselling Centre has been active in support work for over two decades.

Dr Keyvan Abak (the principal clinician) is one reason they’re still running. His record in areas such as self-harm prevention, addiction, and PTSD is notable, even after being around for 17-plus years.

But he’s not the only star. Psychotherapists like Tola are praised for their flexible and evidence-based approach (e.g. MBCT and EMDR), which depends on the client’s present needs.

Speaking of the clients, the centre helps people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In fact, a chunk of their client base consists of Aboriginals, Torres Strait islanders, LGBTQIA+ members, and veterans.

One minor hitch is the strong demand. While staffed with over five practitioners, the centre is busier than our other picks.

Not all of its staff members match Dr Keyvan’s cred either, with most only holding a master’s or bachelor’s degree.

Pros

  • Wide range of services
  • Open for over two decades
  • Diverse clientele
  • 24/7 telehealth hotline
  • Experienced principal clinician

Cons

  • High demand
  • Some counsellors don’t have advanced credentials

Genuinely Passionate

I’ve been seeing Keyvan for a while, he’s genuinely passionate about helping people and puts different spin on traditional therapy. He really got behind helping me on a personal matter & I’m much the better for it. Thanks

A Very Safe Person

Dr. Keyvan Abak is deeply empathetic, kind, caring and a very safe person. I went to conventional therapy for years with little success, Keyvan helped me to change my life trajectory within four months. My results have been phenomenal. I highly recommend him to anybody seeking support, particularly with trauma related symptoms. He has a world of knowledge, wisdom and experience so I couldn’t recommend him enough.

Random matching isn’t Our Wellness Collective’s (OWC) method. They strictly consider a client’s preferences, culture, issues, and even language (they speak 9) to avoid mismatches.

Holistic healing is another benefit of going with them. Integrative therapy is the main approach here, and it uses counselling techniques that also address the body and spirit.

From our chats and research, it’s effective, with past clients saying they felt lighter after a couple of sessions. Their clients include individuals and couples from different backgrounds or groups.

If there’s a shortcoming, it’s definitely OWC’s shorter resume. The centre is still under five years old in 2026, the newest on this list.

Weekend appointments may be tricky to secure as well, given that it’s what most clients aim for.

Waiting isn’t a daft move, though, especially if you’re after Adelaide-friendly pricing. They normally charge $80–$180 for a session.

Pros

  • Holistic approach
  • Offers therapy in 9 languages
  • Affordable rates
  • Intensive matching process
  • Large team

Cons

  • Relatively new
  • Limited weekend availability

Solid Clinical Skills

Vanessa has been a game changer for my mental health. She’s not just “someone to chat to” she actually helps you pull apart the spaghetti code in your head and put it back together properly. She blends solid clinical skill with real-world common sense, so the tools we work on in session actually hold up in daily life. She’s warm, switched on, remembers the details and isn’t afraid to gently call you out when you’re running old unhelpful patterns. I walk out feeling lighter, clearer and with a plan rather than just venting. If you’re serious about looking after your head and want someone who genuinely cares but also gets results, I highly recommend Vanessa and Our Wellness Collective. She is like Australia’s version of Oprah 💪😎

Vanessa Bendikov is a great therapist and truly understands autism, PTSD, and PDA. She’s really helped to give me motivation and inspiration, helping me find joy in my life and helping me to accomodate myself, achieve more, and has been very understanding of most of my challenges etc. ❤️

Founded in 2020, Wellspring Counselling Adelaide is a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive clinic (like these mental health centres). Its counsellors, Will Voung and Daniel Yap, are said to be understanding, patient, and most importantly, life-changing.

What I like most is that they deal with deep trauma and everyday challenges. You can visit for “small-scale” problems like work/academic burnout, or long-term issues, such as generational trauma and identity crisis.

And what’s handy is you don’t have to commit right away. There’s a free 15-minute trial for testing if their programs suit you.

Free self-assessment tools are provided as well. Just note they’re not for diagnosis, only for practical insight.

Wellspring isn’t the biggest team in Adelaide, though, and their hourly fees are a touch higher than usual. For instance, youth/young adult consults are priced at $190, while adult sessions cost $230.

Pros

  • Handles everyday challenges and deep trauma
  • Free trial session
  • Has services for teens and young adults
  • Offers free self-assessment tools
  • Operating for over 5 years

Cons

  • Smaller team
  • A bit pricier

Connected Self’s tenure makes them a reliable choice. The centre opened way back in 2007 and has been a go-to for wellbeing services ever since.

If you’re confused about why we used the term “wellbeing services,” it’s because they’re a multidisciplinary team with integrated solutions. Think psychotherapy, occupational therapy (here are more options) and even school-based programs!

One great example of the latter is Connected Self’s trademark Adventure to Thrive program. For eight weeks, they help strengthen students’ interoceptive skills, brain/body understanding, sense of belonging, and resilience.

As expected, availability is the biggest hurdle in choosing this one, considering they’re closed on the weekends and support people across all age groups.

The major upside is they’re NDIS-accredited. Access to psychotherapy is simpler thanks to funding channels, and you know the services meet strict quality and safety standards.

Pros

  • Open since 2007
  • Offers support for all ages
  • NDIS-accredited
  • Multidisciplinary team
  • Wide range of services

Cons

  • High demand
  • No weekend hours

Fabulous at What She Does

We’ve been with Connected Self for a few years now for support co ordination. Kristy is fabulous at what she does. Highly recommend

As the name implies, Therapy for Her specialises in mental health services exclusive to women, usually those in their 20s and 30s.

Highly collaborative and evidence-based is how we’d describe their style. During sessions, clients are regularly asked if the modalities work or feel right before moving forward.

A 75-minute initial assessment is also employed to ensure the therapeutic plan is personalised. Your strengths, goals, current problems, and history will all be explored.

However, a snag is the smaller team size. You’re limited to four practitioners who can get booked out.

They’re not lacking in basic and advanced credentials, though. For instance, Louise (the director) comes with a postgraduate master’s degree in mental health and extensive training across modalities.

What’s more, the fees are reasonable by Adelaide standards. Both telehealth and face-to-face consults (50 minutes) start at $180.

Pros

  • Highly qualified staff
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Telehealth support
  • Specialises in women’s mental health
  • Collaborative approach

Cons

  • Only offers services for women
  • Small team

I finally feel heard

Such a safe, supportive space. I’ve grown so much emotionally in such a short time. I finally feel heard, validated, and guided in a way that feels gentle but genuinely transformative. Best therapist in Adelaide!
