Pros

  • Over 10 years of experience
  • Has compulsory PI and PL insurance for all instructors and examiners
  • Cars have dashcams and GPS tracking
  • Requires employees to maintain valid NPC and DCSI clearance
  • Will soon utilise electric vehicles
  • Wide selection of vehicles

Cons

  • Few instances of cars being dirty
  • Doesn’t accept cash

Adelaide School of Driving has been the best-rated driving school in Adelaide for three consecutive years, and it’s easy to understand why.

First, the school has been around for 10 years and has proven its expertise by helping hundreds of students learn to drive.

All employees also carry public indemnity and public liability insurance even though only accredited/authorised examiners are required by law to have them.

In addition, employees are also required to maintain a valid National Police Certificate and a DCSI clearance.

These requirements ensure students that the school takes their safety seriously and is taking all necessary precautions to keep them safe.

Another thing we like about this driving school is its wide selection of vehicles that includes both manual and automatic transmissions.

This gives students a wider range of choices regarding their driving lessons and allows them to be comfortable in a car they like.

The school will also soon utilise electric vehicles like Tesla Model Y and Polestar 2 to help students planning to drive those kinds of cars.

The only disadvantages are the instances when cars are dirty and the school’s non-acceptance of cash.

Some learners reported that there were times when the instructor would show up with messy cars. Paperwork and some rubbish were scattered on the seats, which could have been distracting and unhygienic.

It’s also quite inconvenient that they don’t accept cash as a mode of payment. They only accept cards, Paypal, EFT, and Afterpay.

Pros

  • 20 years of experience
  • Instructors are members of the ADTASA
  • Certified and qualified instructors
  • Flexible with pick up and drop off location
  • Lessons are available 7 days a week
  • Flexible payment option
  • Reasonable cost

Cons

  • Some instances of cars being dirty
  • Class schedule often doesn’t take student’s circumstances into consideration
  • Can be hard to book
  • Doesn’t offer manual transmission lessons

With their goal of equipping beginner drivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive safely, Adelaide Driving Academy (ADA) has been operating for 20 years.

The instructors of ADA are all members of the Australian Drivers Trainers Association (ADTASA) and have the necessary qualifications to teach students.

Our favourite thing about this school is they’re flexible with their pick-up and drop-off points. They can pick you up from work, school, home, or anywhere you want if they deem it reasonable.

Lessons are also available seven days a week, which is convenient for those who are only available during weekends. You can call them during business hours, and they’ll find a suitable time for you and the instructor.

There are, however, some instances where the student’s circumstances aren’t considered when scheduling classes.

The school will designate a date and time for your lesson, and a change would require an extra charge, which is disappointing.

They can also be hard to book at times. There were instances when they couldn’t be reached and times when they didn’t call you back for the following schedule.

On a more positive note, their lesson prices are reasonable. A 60-minute lesson costs about $110, while a 90-minute class costs $150.

They also have flexible payment options. You can pay through cash, cheque, card, or gift vouchers.

Pros

  • The instructor is a member of the ADTASA
  • Uses a 5-star ANCAP safety-rated vehicle
  • The instructor has full public indemnity and public liability insurance
  • The instructor has received full NPC and NCPC
  • Experienced and knowledgeable instructor

Cons

  • Few instances of rude behaviour from the examiner
  • VORT system isn’t the best choice for anxious driver

Learn to Pass Driving School doesn’t play with your safety. They don’t only aim to teach you how to maneuver a car but also to provide you with safe driving lessons.

The driving instructor, Angelo, is an experienced and qualified motor vehicle driving instructor who maintains a National Police and DCSI clearance.

He’s also a member of the Australian Drivers Trainers Association (ADTASA) and the Professional Driver’s Association of South Australia, so you can rest assured that he can provide significant help while on the road.

During your lessons, you’ll also use a five-star Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) safety-rated vehicle, which means it has a high and balanced safety performance.

As for insurance, Angelo carries full personal indemnity and public liability insurance.

Another great thing worth praising about Angelo is how he explains his instructions in a very clear and friendly manner. He gives many realistic notes you can use when driving alone.

While the lessons from Angelo are great, there were some complaints about the examiner. He makes rude remarks and does actions that distract the student, which can be frustrating.

Because of this, we think the school’s Vehicle On Road Test (VORT) system is not the best for anxious drivers, as the examiner’s actions may distract you and further increase your anxiety.

Pros

  • Has over 800 verified instructors
  • 24/7 online booking and rescheduling
  • The instructor can be changed easily
  • Auto and manual cars are available
  • Services over 2,500 suburbs
  • Easy to book

Cons

  • Some instances of cancelled classes
  • Some reports of the instructor being late for classes
  • Few reports of rude instructors

EzLicence has a partnership with over 350 driving schools all around Australia and has over 800 verified driving instructors who can help you learn how to drive.

They offer lessons for automatic and manual transmission cars, providing learners with more choices.

They also service over 2,500 suburbs, so you can book their services wherever you are.

Another impressive thing about EzLicence is how easy it is to book their services. With hundreds of instructors, they can easily schedule a class for you.

There are, however, certain instances when classes are cancelled repeatedly. This is frustrating for student drivers, especially those taking time off their busy schedules for class.

On the brighter side, EzLicence allows you to change instructors easily. If they constantly cancel classes or arrive late, you can easily choose a different instructor.

In addition, this option will come handy if you ever encounter a rude instructor like some of the former students did.

This option also fosters a better learning environment for student drivers who can choose an instructor that matches their learning style better.

Pros

Cons

Another great Adelaide driving school with experienced instructors is Urban Driving School. With 10 years of experience, you are guaranteed great driving lessons.

Our favourite thing about this driving school is how friendly the instructors are. Driving for the first time can be nerve-wracking, so we appreciate how hard the instructors try to calm the student’s nerves.

They crack jokes, strike conversations, and provide detailed instructions to help ease your worries. They’re also patient and don’t pressure you when you make mistakes.

The instructors are multilingual and speak English, Mandarin, Malay, Cantonese, and Hakka. As Adelaide has a diverse community, we believe this adds a great advantage to Urban Driving School.

It’s just disappointing that the school only has two instructors. While it’s easy to book their services, class schedules will still depend on how many students they have.

Another drawback is they only teach driving automatic transmission cars. We understand that there aren’t that many manual transmission cars right now, but there are still people who prefer to drive those cars.
