Pros

  • Wide range of paints
  • Plenty of parking
  • Affordable price
  • Open 7 days a week, including public holidays
  • Has an online store

Cons

  • Some colour mixes don’t match customers’ wishes
  • Some staff tends to mix by experience only

Because the shop has over 32 years of experience in trading paints, seeing Paint Supplies in this list shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone anymore.

What we love about this paint store is that you can purchase any of their products online and just pick them up when you’re available, making the buying process easy and hassle-free.

They’re also open 7 days a week, so customers can drop by whenever they’re free. Even during public holidays, the store is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, making it very accessible.

We also love how affordable their products are. Their wood stains go as low as $10 per litre, and their paints can go for as low as $22 for 2 litres.

They offer automotive, boating, house, and industrial paints in different brands and colours, so finding one that would suit your preferences wouldn’t be hard.

They also offer spray paints, thinners, brushes, wax, grease remover, surface cleaner, and other paint elements you may need.

If the colour you’re looking for is unavailable in the store, you may ask them to mix some colours to get the right colour.

There are, however, instances when you wouldn’t get the exact colour that you’re looking for. It will still look somewhat identical, just not 100%.

This is because some of the staff doing the mixing tends to use experience in mixing colours, instead of a computer program. Hence, the colour doesn’t come perfectly identical at times.

Pros

  • Great range of paints
  • Well-stacked colour cards
  • Knowledgeable staff
  • Also offers wallpapers and equipment hire

Cons

  • Rare instances of staff not assisting customers
  • Closed on Sunday

Inspirations Paint has over 130 stores in Australia and is the country’s largest chain of paint stores.

What we love about this paint store is its highly knowledgeable staff. They give great suggestions based on what the customers want.

They also explain how each colour would look on the wall, ceiling, or roof when applied. Hence, it’s easier for customers to understand.

There are, however, still instances when some staff aren’t as helpful as the others. Some staff don’t approach customers to ask them what they’re looking for, which undermines the efforts of other staff.

On the bright side, they maintain well-stacked colour swatches, making it easier for customers to browse their available colours.

Another edge that separates them from other paint stores is they also offer equipment hire for customers. They have scaffolding and planks, spray guns, pressure cleaners, and wallpaper steamers.

However, you should inquire from the store first, as there are instances when the equipment is unavailable.

The store is also not open on Sundays, so make sure to come during weekdays and Saturdays only, to avoid wasting time.

Pros

  • Accessible location
  • Great colour matching
  • Voted the most trusted paint brand in Australia for 9 years
  • Helpful staff
  • High-quality paint

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer automotive paints
  • Closed on Sunday

Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without Dulux, Australia’s most popular paint brand.

The brand has been voted the most trusted paint brand in Australia for 9 consecutive years, and it’s easy to understand once you’ve used their paints. The company produces high-quality paints that last for a long time and have a huge variety of colours.

What we love most about Dulux Trade Centre is its excellent colour matching. Because the store uses computers to get the perfect colour, they’re able to produce paints identical to the sample shown by customers.

We also appreciate how helpful each staff member is. They have immense knowledge about their products and store, so they can answer all your questions and provide good advice.

Another great thing about this store is its location. It’s located on Henley Beach Road, just a few steps away from a bus and less than a 10-minute drive from the CBD, making it very accessible.

The only thing stopping us from giving it a 5 rating on the accessibility criteria is its operating hours since it’s closed on Sundays and closes early on Saturdays.

Overall, it’s a great paint store to drop by when you have renovations and need new paint.

Just note that Dulux specialises in architectural paints, so if you’re looking for automotive paints, this isn’t the store to go to.

Pros

  • Wide variety of paint brands
  • Offers wallpapers
  • Open 7 days a week, including public holidays
  • Knowledgeable staff

Cons

  • Rare instances of staff being rude
  • Not recommended for craft-related paints

Established in 1996, Crowies has grown to become one of the top paint specialists in Australia, with over 30 stores across the country.

What we love about Crowies is its inventory, which comprises a wide range of brands, paint types, and protective solutions. They offer Wattyl, Solver, Granosite, Hempel, Sikkens, Cutek, Hammerite, Oldfields, and more.

Their product range includes architectural, industrial, pool, and timber paints, marine-based coatings, woodcare, metal coatings, and more, so you can visit them for just about any project.

However, we don’t recommend it for craft-related projects like canvas paintings, as you won’t really find the typical paints for those projects in the store.

Aside from paint, they also offer wallpapers, so you can purchase them together if you’re planning to use both on a house renovation.

Another reason why we added this to the list is its operating hours. The store is open 7 days a week, including public holidays, making it extremely accessible to customers.

We were just disappointed at the instances when some staff members weren’t as welcoming and friendly, causing the customers to be frustrated.

These instances, however, are rare, and most staff members are generally helpful. The owner also immediately addresses these issues when raised.

Pros

  • Offers coffee and tea while customers wait
  • Wide range of products
  • Knowledgeable and helpful staff
  • High-quality paint

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer automotive paints
  • Closed on Sunday

As Australia’s second-largest paint brand, Wattyl rightfully deserves a spot on this list.

With its top-quality architectural and decorative paints and protective coatings, the brand is one of the best choices for those doing house makeovers.

They also offer rust neutralisers, decking oils, decking stains, and marine varnish, so it’s very convenient for customers who also need those.

However, unlike other paint stores in Adelaide, they don’t offer automotive paints.

What we love most about this paint store is its wonderful staff, who goes above and beyond to help customers find the perfect paint for them. They also give a lot of tips about their products.

On top of that, they also offer tea and coffee to customers when they have to wait, making the waiting time somewhat bearable.

It’s just a pity that the store is closed on Sundays, so customers who need paint on a Sunday have to go to a different store or just wait for the next day to come.
