5 Best Wig Shops in Adelaide for Medical, Fashion and Costume Needs

Material quality: I looked at whether each shop stocks authentic human hair and heat-friendly fibres that avoid an obvious artificial shine. A wig must look natural under everyday lighting, not just in studio photos.

Consultation privacy: I checked whether shops offer enclosed fitting rooms away from the main retail floor. Trying on a wig can feel vulnerable for many people.

Styling expertise: I checked whether shops employ qualified hairdressers to tailor and shape the pieces. Finding the right cap is only half the battle, because the cut needs to frame your face.

Aftercare and support: I reviewed washing tutorials, care products, and return windows. A good provider doesn't just hand you a box and send you on your way.

I once bought a synthetic hairpiece online that looked fantastic on screen. It arrived looking like a distressed mop. Spending money on something you won’t wear out of the house is an expensive lesson.

That’s why you need a place where you can feel the materials in person. You could ask general hair salons for advice, but a dedicated specialist makes more sense. So I compared local shops on materials, privacy, styling and aftercare.

Here’s the best wig in Adelaide for every need.

How much does a wig cost in Adelaide?

A wig in Adelaide costs from $150 to $400 for a standard synthetic piece to $2,000 to $4,000+ for a custom-fitted medical cap. Ready-to-wear human hair sits in between at $800 to $2,500.

OptionTypical price (AUD)
Standard synthetic$150 to $400
Blended or heat-friendly synthetic$300 to $800
Ready-to-wear human hair$800 to $2,500
Custom-fitted medical cap$2,000 to $4,000+

Website: adelaidecostumeshop.com.au

Address: 129 Wright Street, SA

Contact: 08 8231 4231 | [email protected]

Hours: Tuesday-Thursday, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM | Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Finding a stage hairpiece for a weekend event often means settling for a cheap party shop. Adelaide Costume Shop offers a better route, because you can rent or buy your character pieces.

Renting keeps things budget-friendly if you only need the look for a one-off show or party. Their stock runs deep too, with over 5,000 costumes alongside specialised hairpieces.

Instead of trying things on in a crowded aisle, you can use one of six private dressing rooms to test the whole outfit.

They’re easy to reach as well. When I called with a question, the staff answered right away.

However, the store is closed on Sundays and Mondays, which makes returning rentals after a weekend event tricky. Their fitting rooms also close 30 minutes early.

Pros

  • Rent or buy options
  • Six private dressing rooms
  • Over 5,000 costumes in stock
  • Staff who answer calls quickly

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays
  • Fitting rooms close 30 minutes early

Fantastic Service for Bob Ross Costume

I didn’t catch her name but the lady with the short blonde Bob was absolutely fantastic!

I came in alone looking for a wig and a beard and she helped me every step of the way

And came up with a creative way to add even more to costume (she used white face paint to add white highlights to the beard to accurately capture Bob Ross better)

Can tell she really enjoys her job

Highly recommend 10/10

Website: wigsadelaide.com.au

Address: 6 & 8 Ground Floor Adelaide Arcade, SA

Contact: 08 8223 5594 | Fax: 08 8223 7222

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM | Saturday, 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Finding a fashion wig that doesn’t look fake in the sun is hard. Bonnie Wigs helps by stocking multi-tone styles alongside real human hair.

A friend of mine bought a blended style here recently. The layered colour hides the fibres well.

You also get one-on-one guidance from a certified hairstylist who knows how each texture falls and how a cap sits at your hairline.

However, the shop also sells novelty goods like Russian nesting dolls. That can distract clients who want a calm, focused feel.

They also have only one private fitting room, so busy Saturdays can mean a wait.

Pros

  • Guidance from certified hairdressers
  • Authentic human hair available
  • Multi-tonal colour blends
  • Advice on textures and cap fit

Cons

  • Novelty goods can distract from the clinical feel
  • Only one private fitting room

Came it looking for a pink wig for my fitness competition and left very satisfied with the service that was offered by the employees in finding the perfect wig for me. I was already set on buying the pink wig which was a bit shorter than I wanted until they found one in the back that was amazing!

Website: hairificwigs.com.au

Address: Shop 6, 193 Hindley Street, SA

Contact: 08 8231 1142 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM | Friday, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM | Saturday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Coping with medical treatment calls for a gentle approach, and busy shops rarely feel safe. Hairific brings that care from years of hospital experience, since they began their work inside the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

That background helps them understand the physical and emotional side of chemotherapy and alopecia.

Their pieces suit that need, with natural-looking scalps and thin hand-tied caps that feel light to wear.

And if you’re too unwell to visit the shop, they offer mobile callouts, so they can fit your piece at home or in your hospital room.

However, new clients pay a $50 non-refundable deposit for appointments over an hour.

You also only get a strict one-week window to raise concerns about your fitting.

Pros

  • Years of hospital experience
  • Mobile home and hospital visits
  • Hand-tied caps
  • Natural-looking scalp designs

Cons

  • $50 deposit for long appointments
  • One-week window to raise fitting concerns

Patient and Understanding Consultation Experience

Lost hair due to chemo. Made appointment with Silvana to choose a wig. I had no idea what a wig would be like. She showed and let me try nearly every wig in the shop.she was so patient, understanding of my concerns and what I was trying to find. After 2 hours of her help I found exactly what I wanted. The two hours spent was well worthwhile, i needed someone to help me feel good, confident and that’s what Silvana did. She is brilliant and really knows her job.i highly recommend her.

Comfortable and Welcoming Free Consultation

Came in for a free wig/topper consultation and it was a lovely experience. Chris was so easy to talk to and share my thoughts on the wigs with. Having trichotillomania, I was feeling embarrassed at the thought of someone seeing my hair, but Chris made me feel normal and comfortable.

Looking forward to seeing these lovely ladies again. 💗

Address: 377 Marion Rd, Plympton, SA

Contact: 1800 427 485 | International: +64 9 357 6159 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Buying a wig online can mean extra fees if the style doesn’t suit you. Elly-K removes that stress with zero restocking fees on eligible returns within fourteen days, so you can try styles on at home in Adelaide without fearing hidden costs.

Their range is sorted by cap type, which makes it easier to find a fit you’ll be comfortable in.

The synthetic fibres are also heat-friendly up to 350 degrees, so you can curl or straighten your look with regular hot tools, just like natural hair.

However, their distribution centre is in New Zealand, so orders have to clear overseas transit before reaching your door. You can also only return a single piece per order.

Pros

  • Zero restocking fees on returns
  • Heat-friendly styling fibres
  • Range sorted by cap type
  • Try styles on at home

Cons

  • One return per order
  • Slower fulfilment from an overseas warehouse

Great Experience Finding the Right Wig

I had been considering the option of a wig for various reasons for a while. After having a very disappointing experience with a wig shop in the city in which I live (had to pay $50 just to try a very limited number of wigs, did not find anything suitable and the service provided was very average and unenthusiastic), and knowing I would be in Adelaide for a couple of weeks, I searched for wig places in Adelaide. Elly-K/Wigit Wigs was the first place I came across that appealed to me.

5. Beverly May Hair

Website: beverlymay.com.au

Address: 75a Highbury Street, Prospect, SA

Contact: 08 8342 3448 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Tuesday and Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Wednesday-Thursday, 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Searching for a daily-wear hairpiece can feel exposing in a mixed-gender salon. Beverly May Hair offers a private, women-only space focused entirely on female hair loss, so you can explore your options with total discretion.

That makes a first visit far less stressful.

Their standout service is an invisible hair grafting system, which lasts five to eight weeks. That means you can sleep and exercise without taking the piece off each night, a real advantage for daily wear.

However, fully customised pieces need a lengthy production turnaround, which makes them unsuitable if you need a wig for an event next week.

Pros

  • Private, women-only space
  • Invisible hair grafting system
  • Worn day and night
  • Lasts five to eight weeks

Cons

  • Lengthy turnaround for custom pieces
